0 Subject: RIHC 2014-15: Getting started

Posted by: Guru
- [330592710] Tue, Sep 30, 2014, 10:18

The 2014-15 RIHC managers have all been invited, and all have now accepted. My invitation guidelines were to give initial priority to the top 4 RIHC teams (excluding me), the teams finishing 1-3 in each AAA league, and the winner of the AA league. Since there was a drafting irregularity for the winner of the AA league, I decided not to promote that team all the way to the RIHC this year, opening an extra spot for a AAA team to advance. Finally, since the winner of last year’s RIHC, Coldwater Coyotes, opted out this year, I added the 5th place team from last year’s RIHC.

Here is the list of the 12 RIHC managers for 2014-15:
Magic Air Birds, reeb, Dave R, Da Bomb, Tosh, RJ, stramonio, youngroman, gurudan, KnicksFan, Addicted, and me

I expect the draft to take place starting on or around Oct 16. Prior to that, we will go through the usual process of selecting our draft order. I do not plan any changes to the league rules, which I will post shortly. If anyone thinks that a rule change is warranted, please speak up ASAP.

Based on early feedback from some of the managers, Yahoo still seems to be the hosting site of choice. The draft will take place at Draftime.com (formerly kafenatid.net), as usual.

One issue that I do want to raise is the timing of player adds. We have typically used “next day”, meaning that if you add a player today, he cannot be started in your lineup until tomorrow. Yahoo does offer a same day option, although my understanding is that if a player’s game has already started for the day, he cannot be added at all (as opposed to being added for the following day). Does anyone know if this is correct? We have not used “same day” adds in the past because managers who must do their transactions in the evening might find it hard to maneuver, with many players locked out each evening. But maybe the benefits of same-day adds makes this option worth a shot.

Last season my league used same day adds. While that was a nice feature, it had the major drawback that you mentioned where you could not add a player for the next day once their game had already begun. The player wasn't unlocked until around 3 AM EST, which meant that managers on the west coast were often able to snag hot free agents while east coasters were sleeping.

I'm fine either way, but I would prefer next day adds.

I am in favor of next day adds for the reason that you cannot a drop a player in your starting lineup if his game has started under same day adds.

Given that I am from Italy, I prefer next day adds for obvious reasons.

next day adds is the only way to go. otherwise those that are still awake when the players unfreeze have an advantage.

wait! 3am ET means 9am for me which would be a perfect time to take advantage of this as soon as I arrive at the office ;)

stramonio - nice to see an international manager in RIHC. I am from Austria working for an Italian company.

Yahoo gave me a very fierce-sounding team name. "Tosh's Tip-Top Team".

I changed it an even more-fierce name. "Tosh"

I haven't registered at draftime yet. Probably in the next day or two.

Everyone is now registered at Yahoo.

All but one team (Magic Air Birds) are registered at Draftime.

I'll plan to start the draft order selection round at the start of next week.

Time to get started on selecting our draft order.

I'll start with the following alphabetized list of manager names:
Addicted
Da Bomb
Dave R
Guru
gurudan
KnicksFan
Magic Air Birds
reeb
RJ
stramonio
Tosh
youngroman

Next, I generate a set of random number for 1-12, and align those alongside the list above. That will determine the order in which we select our draft position.

The random numbers will be produced at random.org. I'll send audit copies of the numbers to youngroman and Tosh.

Stand by...

Here are the random numbers:
6, 8, 9, 12, 7, 4, 2, 3, 10, 11, 5, 1

And here is the resulting order for the draft position selection round.

1 youngroman
2 Magic Air Birds
3 reeb
4 KnicksFan
5 Tosh
6 Addicted
7 gurudan
8 Da Bomb
9 Dave R
10 RJ
11 stramonio
12 Guru

We can start immediately. Youngroman is up.

As a reminder, we will use a traditional snake draft for 16 rounds.

Post-draft waiver priorities will start the season in the reverse order of the above list. In other words, I'll start the season with the top waiver priority, and youngroman will be lowest.

When it is your turn, please post your selection in this thread, and if possible, notify the next picker by email.

Still planning to start the draft on October 16th. First round will be untimed (within reason).

I'll probably actually open the draft on Oct. 15 for early picks and queue setup.

there goes my #1 pick. the draft hasn't even started and the first of my designated players is already out.

will be interesting to see how far Durant will drop now with the knowledge that he will miss a third of the season. ESPN rankings have him down at #48. I guess that he will go earlier and I also believe that he should go earlier.

Best case scenario you're getting 60 games out of him (but also losing out on at least 15+ games of good stats by picking a healthy guy). I'd say that's a reasonable mid 2nd round pick. I just don't really have the patience but he's probably worth it. Yeah I'm curious to keep an eye on it.
