0 Subject: RIHC 2015-16: rationale collection thread

Posted by: Guru
- [330592710] Thu, Oct 15, 2015, 15:37

RIHC managers: Please post your rationales in this thread. Rationales are due on a two round lag (i.e., when you make you 3rd round pick, your 1st round rationale is due. You can post any rationale sooner than that if you wish.

Do not worry about placeholders or keeping things in the proper sequence. This is just a place to collect rationales, which I will then transfer over to the formal rationale thread in the proper sequence. This approach has worked well for the past several seasons, and I now have a somewhat automated method for making those transfers.

Remember that you should refrain from mentioning undrafted players. If you feel that your rationale requires that, then hold it back until the player has been drafted - unless the player mentioned is clearly undraftable this year.

7.12 Markieff Morris, PF, PHO

Selected Morris for his ability to contribute something across all the stat categories. He is eligible at both forward positions, so that figured into the decision. It appears he has put his issues with the front office aside and should get plenty of minutes.

8.01 Jordan Clarkson, SG, LAL

Clarkson put up huge numbers late last season, and although the Lakers back court situation is murky at this point, I decided to take a chance that he will get his minutes and build on last year. He is currently projected as the starter at SG but I can see him getting time at PG also. He is another guy that can contribute in a lot of categories combined with with good shooting skills.

9.09 Aminu, Al-farouq SF POR

I debated long and hard between Aminu and Ryan Anderson at this spot. In the end i decided on the blocks/steals guy over the 3 point specialist. Suree enough Anderson went with the next pck after mine so I guess I had him ranked correctly.

10.04 Gordon, Eric SG NOR

Was hoping Ryan Anderrson made it back to me here but he went a few picks earlier. I really felt I needed a 3's boost with this pick so that is the main stat I was looking at.

If Gordon can stay healthy, a major issue for him, I am expecting a career high in threes and an uptick in asssists with Jrue limited to start the year..

8.10 Dwight Howard C HOU

Wow! How did this happen? Last round I reached past Howard for a C who could hit FTs. Now he's still here, I have to take him. How can one turn down 18+ pts and 11+ rebs and a few blocks/steals per at pick #94?!

9.03 JJ Redick SG LAC

Its all about trying to hit some threes here, with good percentages and when you hit threes you score points in bunches. I'm hoping for 3 a game the occasional steal a few rebs and around 16 pts per.

8.08 Terrence Jones, PF, Hou

After a down year due to his injury ravaged 2014/2015 season, Jones has a chance at locking down the starting PF spot in Houston.

He puts up solid all-around numbers, although his free throw percentage is a concern with a career mark of .614. In his last healthy season in 2013/2014, Jones averaged 12.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.7 steals and 1.3 blocks, which increased to 1.8 blocks per game last season in a nice uptick.

Jones has a career .531 FG% and if he pushes towards the 30 minutes per game mark this season.

8.05 Zach Randolph F Mem

At this point I was looking to finish off my roster and draft a C. I was hoping Hibbert would fall to me but he was taken two picks earlier. I then made my first mistake of the draft grabbing Randolph who is only PF eligible. I think Randolph is still a decent value for pts and boards at this spot but it did not fill a void that I could have gotten from Howard or Noah.

9.08 Julius Randle PF LAL

This is purely a "gut" pick. From the start of the draft I want to land CJ and Julius at a reasonable DP. With Kobe on his was out, LAL have two players - Russell and Randle. While preseason isn't worth much, Randle has shown the potential to flirt with a triple double (pts, rebounds, assists) if his stats are projected out over normal starter minutes. The future of the Lakers is now and R&R will be the two counted on to carry the load. Now I must look for the next guy who broke his leg last year so I can draft him next.

10.05 Alec Burks G UT

Having messed up my C pick earlier, Leonard, Anderson or D lee were going to solve the problem. Unfortunately none of them fell to me. Enter "best available". If Burks is truly healed from last seasons shoulder injury he could crush the value at this DP. His points, assists and 3's project to be much better than one would expect from player No. 113 overall.

9.12 Meyers Leonard, PF, POR
Leonard is lined up to be the starting PF (also C eligible) for Portland and I will be looking for points, rebounds, threes, and excellent percentages from him. Hopefully, with his size, he will generate a few more blocks this year. He should get plenty of minutes and has been generating a little buzz and moving up the draft ranks, so I decided to pick him here, figuring he wouldn’t be available at my next turn.

10.01 Jerian Grant, PG, NYK
Grant is another player generating some preseason buzz and figures to get plenty of backcourt minutes for the Knicks. ESPN has some nice projections for him, including over 2 threes a game. Hopefully he pans out as I am thin at PG right now.

10.07 Joe Johnson, SG/SF, BKN

We are at the point of the draft where a bunch of unproven guys are being taken- some will pan out, some will not. I tend to lean toward the solid vet if I see him having a higher expected value. Joe Johnson is boring but still gets it done and will continue to be counted on for the Nets with no one of note pushing him for playing time.

11.06 Luol Deng, SF, MIA

Another unexciting vet but someone who I should be able to count on for production, as to have all your starters produce in a deep and competitive league is a big advantage. I will be happy if Deng can keep his starting job and match last year's 30+ minutes with solid numbers.

9.01 Kobe Bryant, SG, LAL

Picks 8 and 9 were the site of a mini-disaster. It was a busy night what with the unthoughtfulness of having a national election being held here the next day. Early in the evening it seemed obvious that it wouldn’t get to me before 8 PM, and I was in no position to set a queue, at least not for 2 picks. So to my regret I thot I had better go out and come back and catch up on my picks for an hour or two sometime when I got back hope a few hours after midnight. Of course after 7 PM a string of picks were whipped off. A few hours later before heading back home I thot to make one last check. Disaster! I had timed out before midnight. And being on the turn I get only one clock for two picks, so, depending on who was up, any number of picks could have been made before I got back. And I had no notes, only unreliable recollections of who I had on my preliminary list.

So I actually picked Kobe at 9.01 before picking at 8.12. This one wasn’t so bad. I hadn’t taken any of the elderly ex-superstars yet but figured I could afford one. expectations for him differ widely. He has been treated as a possible top-60 or even top-50 pick. No one knows whether he’ll lose one step or two, or three. It’s funny to think of Kobe as a pick with upside, but there you are.

8.12 was a different story. For some reason I thot I had Kevin Martin high up on my list here. When I got back I discovered that he had in fact lost his starter’s job, and is a square peg in a round hole on a young team. In retrospect I should have picked Kobe and waited till I got back to make a good pick. It’s uncertain whether Martin will be worth holding at the bottom of my bench for a while. I’ll just treat this as an autopick gone wrong.

Would have chosen at 8.12 if I was thinking: probably J. J. Redick (9.03).

10.11 Aaron Afflalo SG/SF NYK

This is a pretty boring pick, but one I needed to make. I was definatley lacking in 3's, and that's pretty much all Aaron can offer.

He is on a new team, Melo is back, and maybe, if Melo can remember to pas the ball, his extra attention might free up Afflalo for some open looks.

Not expecting mush else, 13 ppg, a few boards and little on the defensive end. At least his FT% is solid

11.02 Jabari Parker SF MIL

Major knee surgery derailed a promising rookie season last year. Jabari is still rehabbing, " supposedly " on track for the beginning of the season, but I seriously doubt the Bucks will rush him back. This is more a pick for later on this year.

Hopefully once healthy, and hopefully sooner than later, Parker can put up some numbers that made him last years rookie of the month for November. That should mean double digit scoring, 6 or so boards, and some assists and steals.

12.11 Kentavious Caldwell-Pope SG/SF DET

Another guy with three names. I'm still looking to add 3's, Kent...... should be good at that, assuming he is named starter at PG for the Pistons.

Last year, his 2nd, he averaged 13.1ppg, 3 boards, 1.5 steals and assists and nearly 2 triples per. I'd be happy with those numbers at this juncture.

9.05 Ersan Ilyasova, PF, Det

His yearly production looks pretty consistent lately. Averaged 14.5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.9 3-pointers per game after the All-Star break and seems like an absolutely perfect fit for Stan Van Gundy's offense next to Andre Drummond.

10.08 Wesley Matthews, SG/SF, Dal

He had settled in over the last few years as one of the league's best high-volume shooters, a Rotisserie stud who could contribute across the board in a way many specialists simply can't.

Unfortunately, a ruptured Achilles ended his season in March. This is a notoriously difficult injury to come back from , but the Mavericks gave Matthews a max contract this offseason, so they don't seem too concerned...

11.05 Tony Parker, PG, SA

It will be headaches with owning Parker at this stage in his career, but needed assist and the percentages.

10.10 Bobby Portis PF CHI

I had my eye on Portis from the beginning of the preseason, liking his hustle and performances. Originally I wanted to take him in rnd 11. However the buzz on him kept getting louder and louder so as we approached the end of round 10 I took a peek at the draft grid and didn't like what I saw. I felt that both Toral and Sandy were likely to pick a Forward with at least one of their two picks and was afraid he would not make it back to me so I pushed him ahead of PJ Tucker in my queue and drew him in this round. I think he will see plenty of action and give me excellent benefit at this late position

11.03 Evan Turner GF BOS

By pushing Portis ahead of Tucker on my draft list I lost Tucker to SANFORDORS on the very next pick. Turner was my next choice and I almost like him better. He gets multiple stats looks in line for a meaningful rotation slot and should be a nice contributor to my team.

13.02 Ed Davis PF POR

At this point Davis isn't slated to be a starter in Portland, and that might not change. The good news is he should see plenty of minutes as a back up, as he did last year for the Lakers.

Aldridge and Lopez have been replaced by Plumlee and Leonard, arguably a downgrade in talent. I envision more minutes for Davis than the 23 he logged last year, and an uptick in his stats from last year, which 8 points, 8 boards and 1.5 blocks. Granted his FT% stinks, but his FG% was a stellar 60%.

That would be a reasonable return for a round 13 investment

11.01 Russell, D’Angelo, PG, LAK

Guess I’ll grab one of these rookie lottery tickets. Shooting hasn’t been great in pre-season, and will struggle for PT early. However he has well-rounded talent and I hope can p[ay dividends if I can keep a roster spot for him long enough.

Next in queue: Stanley Johnson, F, Det

12.12 Barnes, Harrison, SF, GSW

Knee problem doesn’t appear to be serious. Looking for marginal improvement across the board at minimum, with the possibility of more.

11.12 Dennis Schroder, PG, ATL
Schroder starts the year as backup to Teague but may see some time at SG also. He put up some gaudy stats last year when Teague was hurt and seems to have the potential to be a major talent. I am thinking he may force his way into a larger role and provide me with some nice point guard stats.

Similar to my last pick, Lin is on a new team and starts the year as backup PG. He has looked good in preseason, so I am hoping he can play himself into a more minutes and inject a little Linsanity into my team. Both this and my previous pick are designed to gain some depth at PG.

9.10 Anderson, Ryan - NOR - SF

Ryan Anderson is always an injury risk, but he is also one of the best 3 point shooters in the NBA. He's a good source of points, 3s, and percentages this late in the draft. I also really needed to shore up my Small Forward position, since I only had Demarre Carroll here at this point.

10.3 David Lee - Boston, PF

David Lee was drafted in the top 30 just a couple of seasons ago and the only reason he dropped off the radar is his injury history and losing the job to Draymond Green last year. But now he's in Boston, where he can flourish once again. He doesn't do anything for blocks and steals, but he's a good scorer and most importantly an excellent rebounder. My team was feeling thin in rebounds so it was nice to find a guy that can board this late in the draft, without hurting other categories. Hopefully he avoids the freak injuries this year!

11.10 Aaron Gordon, PF, Orlando

I was debating a few guys with this pick, and decided to take a risk on a young guy who is expected to get big minutes. I usually don't like taking rookies in a draft, but 2nd year guys are my bread and butter. Gordon was spectacular in the summer league, averaging 22 points, 12 boards, 2 3s, and 2 blocks. He's only played 1 preseason game but he should have a starting role on Orlando and hopefully can carve out something like half of those summer league stats.

12.03 Kristaps Porzingis, Forward, Knicks

Even though I don't like taking rookies, the 12th round seemed like a good time to take a chance on KP, who is guaranteed to get starter minutes and has an interesting skill set. He was very impressive in the summer league and is a hard worker. He has pretty good upside, and I needed to have at least 1 Knick on my roster.

12.07 Jose Calderon, PG, NYK

A starting PG at this point of the draft, so why not! He should play 30+ mins when he is in the lineup and provide plus assists and 3s with a relatively good FG% for a guard (though it was way down last season). The Knicks don’t have any draft picks in 2016 so tanking is not an option, making Calderon’s role more secure.

13.06 Frank Kaminsky, PF/C, CHA

Charlotte reportedly turned down a draft day offer from the Celtics of 6 draft picks including 4 firsts for their 9th overall pick as Michael Jordan realllly wanted Kaminsky. The biggest takeaway for me is that Frank will be given every opportunity to run with a starting job, where he could be a nice all around player.

14.07 John Jenkins, SG, DAL

The Mavs backcourt is banged up and someone needs to play. Enter Jenkins who has started all 5 preseason games and hasn’t scored less than 16 points, including 2 games with 26 points.

14.11 Ben McLemore SG SAC

Pick 167, I'm getting a starter.

Ben showed significant improvement after what would be considered a disappointing rookie season. He finished with per game average of 12 points, 3.5 boards, 1 steal, and 1.7 threes, shooting a respectable 44% from the floor and 81% from the line. I could do worse.

Rondo is in town, DeMarcus is down low, I'm thinking another step forward for McLemore.

15.02 Patrick Patterson PF TOR

This could be a wasted pick, but we are at that stage in the draft. Rumored to have a starting gig in Toronto, his lackluster play may have opened the door for others.

Last season Patterson played in 81 games with rather pedestrian stats of 8 points 5+ boards, but 1.3 threes, with decent %, and chipping in some blocks and steals.

If named the starter, or at least logging starters minutes, this pick could be OK. If not he gets tossed back on the scrap heap. I'm sure we will all have our fair share of those

10.06, Rodney Hood, GF, UTA

Mo Williams was a solid pick for me in the last round, so that freed me up to have a bit of a punt in this round. Hood is a good punt. He's lights out from 3 point range, and i don;t really mind that he's not the starter. He'll get his 25-30 mins a night and that will be enough to contribute good scoring, with nice percentages and plenty of 3s. Just what i'm looking for.

11.04, Myles Turner, C, IND

Quite surprised when i looked at Turner and discovered he could should free throws! That was a key thing here - i needed a 3rd C eligible and, and the combination of a ROY candidate, a potential starter, C eligible AND a decent free throw shooter? I'll take a risk on that at 124.

12.09, Marcus Smart, PG, BOS

This was very simple for me. Smart lit it up in Summer League and has been subject to great vibes about his leadership qualities on a young Celtics team. Starting, 3s, steals, assists, and a fresh attitude in attacking the rim now he's over his ankle issues. Potential full breakout here at best, steady low end numbers at worst.

13.04, Kyle O'Quinn, FC, NYK

It's weird him not being on the Magic, but i love his opportunity here. There isn't much behind Melo and Lopez in the frontcourt, giving KOQ a huge opportunity to perform in a bullhammer reserve enforcer role that he should have been given an opportunity to perform in Orlando on more than one occasion.

It's just a shame i didn't have 3 picks here, because i would have hoovered up Alex Len and John Henson here too.

14.09, Gerald Green, GF, MIA

Luol Deng and Dwayne Wade have a 0% chance of playing close to 82 games or 35+ minutes. There is ample opportunity for Green to do what he does best, which is bomb 3s. And when one of the aforementioned gets their inevitable injury, Green will be waiting to go into hyperdrive.

15.04 Nikola Jokic, C, DEN

Jokic has a DeAndre Jordan like 79% FG% through this point in the preseason. Jusuf Nurkic is not close to a return. If Jokic can give me a strong first month, i will be delighted.

13.10 Joffrey Lauvergne, FC, Denver

Lauvergne is the rarest of players, a tough Frenchman. Denver's starting center is injured and Lauvergne has had a great preseason in his place, with really solid shooting and big rebounding numbers. I figure he'll get at least 20 minutes per game in the regular season when Denver is at full strength. And for the time being, he will start at center and who knows, maybe he'll retain the job even after Nurkic comes back. I'm also a Game of Thrones fan, so it's nice to own a guy named Joffrey.

9.07 Nurkic, Jusuf

Nurkic had a decent rookie season with 8 ppg, 8 rbs, 1 steal and 1.4 blocks as a starter. His injury is a bit of a concern but hopefully doesnt keep him out for too long and should be the clear starter once hes back.

10.06 Chandler, Wilson

Took the best fit available here, good source of 3's. I dont really mind if he doesnt start as long as hes getting 25+ minutes.

11.07 Holiday, Jrue

I cant believe Holiday was still on the board in the 11th round. He returned third round value last year. He's already back, although with a minute cap, and I feel less of an injury risk than guys some other guys with unknown return dates. I also have Tyreke Evans who just announced another knee surgery so Holiday will have to step up right away.

Strickly a Rotation man who had a good year last year and is now in a situation where he stands to get minutes when Kobe has a night off or an injury. He is in a three way competition for the PS/SG rotation so nothing is guaranteed as far as minutes etc. When he does play he gets to the line fairly well where he shoots just fine. Maybe he'll offset some of Dwight's Duds.

Gibson is in a crowded frontcourt situation, but I expect he will put up solid numbers when he plays. Decent stats across the board, he should be a good source of blocks.

14.01 Willie Cauley-Stein, C, SAC
First year player who is in contention for a starter's role, he is a defensive specialist at this point. I drafted him mainly for his potential to provide blocks and steals.

Bass has shown in the past he has the ability to put up decent numbers for a backup. I am thinking he may get some minutes in his current situation.

12.08 Andrew Bogut, C, GS

Center needed.
He can still be one of the most effective defenders and rebounders in the league.

13.05 Nik Stauskas, SG, Phi

The second year player for the 76ers has a real chance to make an impact this season. Philly isn’t that deep at the shooting guard position and I think Stauskas could end up winning that job. When he got the minutes last year he proved that he can be a decent three point shooter and overall scorer.

14.08 Zach LaVine, PG/SG, Min

He has the athleticism to create mismatches in the open court, and hopefully can improve on the defensive end to become a solid two-way player. He averaged 13.8 points, 4 rebounds, 5.1 assists with 1 steal and decent efficiency in 40 games as a starter last year.

15.05 Zaza Pachulia, C, Dal

He is proven to be a good source of boards and decent efficiency when he can stay on the court.

16.08 Maurice Harkless, SF, Por

Harkless has the ability to fill up the box score whenever he gets the opportunity.

Kris Humphries PF WAS

Let's face it, Nene is old(er), brittle, always seemingly injured. One site has already posted that Nene will come off the bench, and moved Humphries to the top of the depth chart.

Well see, but with the next to the last pick in our draft, I'm not expecting a heck of allot.

But as a Nets fan, it is only a few years ago, the Kris averaged a double-double. I don't expect that at all. In 21 minutes last year he averaged 8ppg and 6.5 boards. If he starts this year, who knows.

Did I mention last nights line? 16 points, 12 RB's, 2 steals, and, get this, 2 threes. Preseason, I know

13.01 Zeller, Tyler, C, Bos

Unclear how much any big will play but currently listed as starter. If he grabs job, won’t hurt you in FT% and can contribute a board and a block.

14.12 Bjelica, Nemanfa, SF, Min

Really a playmaking 4;t he Euro veteran would be an asset if he gets playing time, and is putting up minutes and stats in pre-season. Patrick Patterson (15.02) was next in queue.

15.01 Mills, Patty, PF, SA

Dave R. interfered with my plans again by taking McLemore just before I came up. Serious value would require starter’s ill health.

16.12, Stephenson, Lance, SG/SF, LAC

Was last man in the queue and checking in the morning saw a blurb that he might be a surprise starter so worth last pick in the draft.

14.03 TJ Warren SF, Suns

TJ Warren is in his second year, but is going to be used as a 6th man in Phoenix (if he doesn't win the starting job over PJ Tucker). He has been playing great in the preseason, scoring 14+ in 4 out of 6 games, and averaging about 2 steals per game. He also has pretty good rebounds and assists. The only weakness seems to be that he has no 3 point shot (1 for 10). Assuming he can get 25-30 minutes per game, he will be a very valuable player.

15.06 Jeff Green, SF/PF, MEM

Green was off to a good start with the Celtics before a midseason trade to the Grizzlies slowed down his groove. Green still played 30+ mpg for them, and perhaps a full offseason with the team translates to an improvement.

16.07 Shabazz Muhammad, SF, MIN

In 13 games as a starter last year, Shabazz put up 15 pts, 5 reb, 1 three, 1 total blocks + steals with solid %s. In his latest preseason game he went 15 pts, 5 bds, 4 assts. Tayshaun Prince is currently stated to start over him, but perhaps talent wins out sooner than later.

15.10 Tony Wroten, PG, Phi

Last season, Wroten averaged 18 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 3ptr as a starter. Then he tore his ACL and missed the rest of the season. He is aiming to return in November, although the Philly coach said it could be more like December. Even so, if he gets back into his starting role and can give me 60 games, then he is a great value for this late in the draft.

16.03 Tristan Thompson, FC, Cleveland

Thompson was great in the playoffs and therefore he decided he was worth a max contract so he sat out all of training camp and the preseason. That uncertainty has obviously hurt his draft stock. Luckily, he came to an agreement with the Cavs about an hour before my pick so I was able to swoop in and take him. For a final round pick, he can give me 10 points and 10 boards, and has the potential for more. He'll be coming off the bench for now, but it's only a matter of time before Varejao or Love goes down with another injury.

14.10 Steven Adams C OKC

Looking for a third center, one who would play significant enough minutes to contribute something if I had an injury (likely with Dwight) plus the extra two games are important. One reason I really like this format. Steven is the starter although Enes Kantor may get the most minutes. He scores well enough gathers in modest boards and blocks a few shots.

15.03 Josh Smith PF LAC

With the recent news that Smith will play some minutes a C, it seems likely his role, time on the court, will take a small boost. That being the case this guy can stuff stats when given the opportunity. His FT shooting is disappointing, but since he is not my main guy at SF/PF/maybe C, the steals and stats he does generate when I do play him will more than make up for that deficiency.

16.10 Clint Capela C HOU

He has played well in place of Dwight in the preseason, grabbing a couple of double doubles along the way. He will start the first HOU game due to suspension of Dwight, and looks to be the first guy in line after Dwight at the moment. I actually had him ahead of Steven Adams (14.10) for most of the draft, but decided tho go with Adams before Clint because of the guaranteed minutes Adams will get. I am very glad he was still around at the end of the draft. I think he will far outplay his Draft Position.

NOTE: While many of my picks were made automatically by the queue this in no way undermines the value of the selections made. It is a simple thing to establish a queue according to perceived value/needs and then tweak it as the drift progresses. I realize there is a sense of satisfaction in "selecting" Player A, but logging on to drafttime and checking the progress is also like opening a well wrapped present when you see which of the wonderful gifts you wanted has actually been given you. I do heartily recommend trying it.

12.06 Avery Bradley

From this point on in the draft, I was solely focused on finding starters. Nothing too exciting about Bradley although his 3's might tick up from last season. Im expecting a steal a game, 15 points, 3-4 rebs.

13.07 Isaiah Canaan

A bit concerned about this pick as Rotoworld is now saying he might not even make the final roster. I was hoping he would slide into the starting PG spot while Wroten is out and missed McConnell's (who??) preseason games. Regretting this pick.

11.08 128 Plumlee, Mason C POR
Nothing flashy here. Plumlee fills a void at C that I had from an earlier mistake. He should get decent starter minutes which will translate into around 8 pts, 8 boards and a block

12.05 137 Burke, Trey PG UTA
At this point in the draft getting a starting point guard (at least he was) who has potential to improve seemed like a decent pick. If he loses his starting gig he should still get decent minutes and pts/assists running the second team

13.08 152 Mahinmi, Ian C

Like Burke, Mahinmi will be pushed for minutes by a rookie. With Hibbert off to LA, Mahinmi is looking at his first real chance to be a starter. His foot work has improved and his preseason numbers have been decent for pick 152. If he can get 25 minutes he will help my squad in rebounds and blocks.

14.05 161 Koufos, Kosta C

A theme...like Burke and Mahinmi, I opted to take a big man who is being pushed for his starting gig by a rookie. At the time of the pick I actually expected Koufos to anchor the second team down low. I actually like this spot for him better since Cousins will dominate the statistics for the starters. Hopefully Koufos will get more boards and rebounds because he doesn't have to compete with Cousins

15.08 176 Harris, Gary SG DEN

Denver is an interesting team this year and they are going with a very young back court. Who knows if Harris will be on my team two weeks from now. I will use the first couple weeks to see if his 3 pt and steal contributions are enough to hold down a roster spot.

16.05 185 Williams, Derrick PF NYK

Not going to lie, this was basically a wasted pick to get the draft over with. Several of the guys that I wanted with my last pick went before me. I had actually planned to take Tristan Thompson in hopes that he may sign in the first few weeks and then the news broke before the pick got to me. Tony Wroten was my other short list guy who also went.

14.06 Courtney Lee

At this point in the draft, I am focused on finding starters. Lee has pretty good shooting %s and can add points and 3s in bunches. Nothing too exciting but I think hes a decent pick up this late in the draft

15.07 Donatas Montiejunas

Not overly happy with this pick – hes banged up and Jones is back at full strength. However, Montie should get some good backup minutes and if anything happens to Jones, he will slide into the starting PF spot and might get a few starts at C too. Montiejunas has some potential but I think there were better options out there.

16.06 Langston Galloway

Galloway had some great games last year and is in a good spot on a shaky team. Afflalo is injured, Carmelo will be getting lots of rest and Calderon is getting old and on a minute cap. Happy to grab him with the 16th round pick.

16.09, Marco Belinelli, GF, SAC

I wanted Nate Robinson with this pick and actually added and selected him in Draftime. Then i realised he'd been taken much earlier in the round with a placeholder.

That's ok. I went with Marco instead, as i think Ben Mclemore will be a bust, and Marco has the chance to put big numbers in a reserve role.
