RIHC managers: Please post your rationales in this thread. Rationales are due on a two round lag (i.e., when you make you 3rd round pick, your 1st round rationale is due.) You can post any rationale sooner than that if you wish.
Do not worry about placeholders or keeping things in the proper sequence. This is just a place to collect rationales, which I will then transfer over to the formal rationale thread in the proper sequence. This approach has worked well for the past several seasons, and I now have a somewhat automated method for making those transfers.
Remember that you should refrain from mentioning undrafted players. If you feel that your rationale requires that, then hold it back until the player has been drafted - unless the player mentioned is clearly undraftable this year. |

5.12 Thaddues Young
Young is always a reliable source of virtually everything (other than 3PTM) and underestimated. This season he will not be asked to be the top scoring option, which may be a blessing in disguise as he could focus on doing other things he is very capable of. That Pacers may go uptempo is worth monitoring. I tried to have Tobias Harris here but he just disappeared not far in front of me for which I could not stop wondering if I should choose a higher draft slot.
6.01 Gordon Hayward
Broken finger will delay Hayward's season debut for around a month. Thus, my team got to manage to stay afloat before his return. He could score and shoot three pointers. But his scoring is apparently at the expense of his other accumulated stats including assists. The arrival of Joe Johnson may eat into some of Hayward's minuites but should pose not much of the threat fantasy-wise in the long run.

6.06 J Valanciunas.
This was my first "need" pick as I had been letting the best player available dictate who I had drafted in the first 5 rounds. With a significant chunk of Cs already drafted I started to look at best available. I considered Gortat, Lopez and Monroe. I had big V last year and he disappointed me. Gortat is trending down. I probably should have grabbed Monroe who despite coming off the bench may beat all of this group. I just don't like taking Bucks and that system.
7.04 B Knight
This was the first pick where I said YUCK to everyone in range. As the picked approached I watched my chance to get my second center in back to back picks go bye bye. I then turned my attention to Crowder and Lavine the second going right before me. That left me staring at a group filled with question marks for a 7th round pick...Galli, Wade, Beal, Parsons, these guys are a MASH unit waiting to happen. Howard as my second C... couldn't do it. That left me with designated 6th man B Knight.

6.08 Gortat, Marcin C WAS
After going small the past few picks, it's time to reinforce my big man stats. Gortat, Robin Lopez, and Jusuf Nurkic appear to be the best options right now. Lopez is OK, but not very exciting, with a low ceiling. Nurkic is exciting, but his playing time is in question. So I went with Gortat. Over the past few seasons, he has been consistent and healthy. Two things that I need with these mid-round picks.
7.05 Bazemore, Kent SG ATL
I need a SG-eligible player. I like to get to about round 10 before I start drafting guys I know little to nothing about. This year ... I made it to pick 7.05. Bazemore contributes in all categories, and appears to have plenty of playing time ahead of him. Atlanta thought he was worth a four-year, $70 million contract. Hopefully he will be worth pick 7.05 to me.

7.09 Bradley Beal, SG, Was
Two other guys I was looking at went with the next two picks (Gallinari & Parsons). All three have injury concerns and I went with Beal as his percentages are more solid and his position is one I’m currently lacking in.
8.04 Deron Williams, PG, Dal
I definitely needed to shore up some assists here. You can’t count on him for 70 games but he’ll be productive when he’s in the lineup.

Another 3rd year player. Parker finished last year very strong, I think 20PPG and 6 boards is realistic. Should help with FG% and throw in some blocks and steal. Also considered Monta Ellis.

4.09 Derrick Favors
So, he's injured right now, but was a top 30 player last year. A repeat of that would be excellent value at this point.
Oh, and this is mistake number 1 regarding lack of Centre eligibility!
5.04 Myles Turner
Am I way early here? Maybe, but I've made a bit of a vow to have some excitement in my squad this year. Turner will provide that, hopefully along with 16-8 and an elite block rate.
Also, Centre eligibility mistake number 2!
6.09 Ryan Anderson
Take a prolific 3 point shooter, give him a fat contract and put him in a D'Antoni offense. Select with #69 and watch 3 triple a game rain down. Hopefully!
Centre eligibility mistake #3 - aaarrgghh! I'm on vacation but this is getting ridiculous...

7.03 Rudy Gay SF Sac
Since my roster is now configured with 3 PG's, 2 C's and a PF, I backed myself into a corner, needing a SF & SG. I had my eye on Crowder, but he went two picks earlier.
Rudy might be on his way out in Sacramento, but he's on his way to team SANFORDORS. Really, he probably was the best fit for my team in light of the fact I needed a SF. Cousins is king of the Kings, but Gay is weapon #2, as long as he isn't traded.
Gay should contribute 17-18 points, 6 boards, a trey per and 1.5 steals, while not hurting my %'s
8.10 Wesley Matthews SG Dal
Wesley suffered a season ending achilles injury in March 2015, but managed to be ready for the start of last season. Admittedly he wasn't nearly the same as before, but he still managed to play 33 minutes a game. Fair to think his injury is behind him
Hopefully, Wes in in for a bounce back season and can contribute points steals and 3's
9.03 Otto Porter SF Was
I had Embiib all locked and loaded here but of course he went pick 9.02. What the heck, I didn't want another C yet anyway.
So on to Otto Porter. Not to much to be excited about, he hasn't really lived up to being taken 3rd in the draft a few years ago. None the less, he's still young and does have talent.
I'm looking for 3's and steals ( 1.5 per ) 12 points, and 6 boards a game, with decent shooting %'s

7.08 - Dwayne Wade
This was the auto--pick that I got last night.
I think I had Jackson right after him and maybe a center. Wade doesn't hurt me much, so hopefully he'll produce in Chi-town.
8.04 - J.j Redick
Decided to shore up the 3PM.
Good FT% and decent FG%, but not much else.

7.12 Robert Covington
At the time of starting drafting players, I never imagined I would have any players from 76ers (no offense to Philly fans). I originally planned to get Gallinari. The unavailability of Gallinari affored me an opportunity to finally realize Covington was actually a very good player last year (in terms of return of investment). He could remain a reliable source of 3PTs and steals---not a bad alternative though.
8.01 Dwight Howard
Despite entering into the phase of decline of his career, the number of Howard is not much different from his prime (by my definition). He could still score, rebound, block the shot, and not make the free throws. Some video clips this summer show that he really could make the freebies and even hit the mid-range jumpers in PRACTICE and let's hope that could translate into the games that count. My team was at the bottom of the barrel last season in FT with Drummond and I tried not to repeat the same mistake this year but could not manage to resist the urge of grabbing Howard here. Further, with more offense supposed to be running through him he should be having no problem raising his average scoring over 15.0 per game.

9.12 Emmanuel Mudiay
Both Marvin Williams and Demarre Carroll were taken before me, forcing me to alter the plan (if any) of shoring up the 2/3 positions here. Mudiay might be the best available option at this point (in terms of ADP of course), which will be true if he could improve his FG percentage and increase the assist total a bit.
10.01 Joakim Noah
Moving over to NYC to re-claiming the starting center role undoubtedly makes Noah a decent bounce-back candidate (his number really has nowhere to go but up from last year's nightmarish campaign). Noah is not known for his scoring but he could rebound, pass the ball, and block some. Staying healthy will be his top priority.

7.6 Zach Lavine
In my sixth round I was indecided between Booker and Lavine and I took Booker. When I found out that in the seventh I could have also Levine I was very pleased to get him. Zach is young and has upside and can be used in useful if Rubio goes down.
8.7 Enes Kanter
After a few guards I needed a big man and I went for Kanter who can see expanded role in OKC. If he only could have more blocks...
9.6 Nikola Mirotic
Double digit points, 5 rebs and 2,5 three pointers per games is what I expect from him. That late in the draft is not easy to find.

9.09 Marvin Williams, SF/PF, Cha
By this point in the draft it’s natural to focus on specific positions or stats, and I was about to do the same when I noticed Marvin to be available. Last season he was ranked 45 in both Yahoo’s system and ESPN’s player rater. That value was too hard to pass up at this stage.
10.04 Bismack Biyombo, C, Orl
Jahlil Okafor would have been nice but he went a couple picks prior. As noted by a couple other managers, ESPN is strict on its eligibility requirements compared to Yahoo, especially for centers. I’d like to have a third center option for depth before the options get barren. Bismack’s situation is a little muddled but he just earned a $70M contract so I presume his playing time will be stable. I also like adding one of the better shot blockers in the league to my squad.

8.08 Randle, Julius PF LAL
The present, and future PF of the Los Angeles Lakers. Since he's the future, he should get plenty of playing time despite some flaws. He is a double-double machine and his assists should increase from the 1.8 he averaged as a rookie. Unfortunately, he is a non-factor in the blocks and steals categories.
9.05 Hill, George PG UTA
In 74 appearances for the Pacers last season, Hill averaged 12.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.7 three-pointers and 1.1 steals in 34.1 minutes per game. Not the sort of numbers that will lead a fantasy team to a title, but as one of the last PGs on the board, they should contribute to my 2016-17 title. I might try to handcuff his young backup to my team ... just in case Hill starts losing PT.

I started to pull the trigger on D Howard with this pick. Went Gallinari instead, take a shot on a health risk over a certain FT% killer. If I can get 65 games that would be cool, anything over a bonus.
8.03 D Rose
Had Rose and J Randall in my queue. Had buyers remorse as soon as I hit draft. Maybe a change of scenery will do him well.
9.10 T Thompson
Wanted a center with this pick. Also looked at Len, Okafor, and Noah. In the end went with Thompson based on the change in front court personnel in Cleveland. Should/could lead better numbers across the board.

8.12 Reggie Jackson, PG, DET
He's out for the first month, so he fell in the draft, and I felt this was a good spot to take the gamble. I figure he would've went around pick 50-60 if he's healthy. If he returns as the same player as last season, it'll be a nice addition to the team. His assists alone make him valuable at this stage of the draft. It's usually hard to get assists in season, so I wanted to be strong there.
9.01 Nerlens Noel, PF/C, PHI
Players who average 1.8 stl and 1.5 blks per game don't grow on trees. His perceived value is down because the front court in Philly has a little depth. It also has a long history of injuries, so it doesn't scare me much. Even if he comes off the bench, I still see him getting good enough minutes to be really helpful for me. I've seen him going much higher in several drafts, so hopefully those people are right. He's got a bad FT% but I've stacked up the team enough to take the hit I think.

6.11 Jusuf Nurkic
Happy with my first 5 picks, which I thought were all safe choices and players that fell further than their ADP. The safe choices here were probably Rudy Gay or Jae Crowder. I decided to switch gears a bit, figuring safe picks wouldn't win RIHC. Nurkic has been perhaps the most hyped player in the preseason, and I probably reached on him here, but I figured I would have to take him 6 or 7 as I wouldn't get him at 8 or 9. As I recall, Nurkic and not Jokic was the hyped Nuggets big man going into last year, he's had a monster preseason, has slimmed down, and is reportedly going to get run alongside Jokic. I felt chasing this upside was worth it rather than selecting Gay who is steady but lacks a big upside at this point in his career. With a PG, SG, SF, PF, and C already, I figured I could go in any positional direction with this pick and opted for Nurkic.

7.02 Jordan Clarkson
Wanted a G here after going F/C with the 6th round pick. The three players that stood out were Brandon Knight, Zach LaVine, and Clarkson. I eliminated Knight because of his low projected FG% (.396 - ESPN). LaVine is certainly the bigger name and more hyped, upside play, but I thought Clarkson was a bit more helpful statistically. LaVine can be a big time scorer but ESPN projects Clarkson to finish with more points, rebounds, steals, and assists, so I opted for him.

8.11 Harrison Barnes
This pick was really more about my 9.02 pick. I liked both Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid a lot, but wasn't sure who I wanted to take. Noel seemed safer and Embiid sexier. I was sitting on pick 95 and saw that Noel went at 45 in another RIHC league. Like Nurkic, Embiid has been getting a ton of preseason hype and his upside is massive. I took a calculated risk that Meatwads wouldn't take both of these guys but there was a good chance he would take one of them and help me decide who to take. So I looked at other players who stood out on a 'best player available' standard. Barnes signed a massive contract this offseason and can be a focal point of the Mavericks offense. ESPN projects him at nearly 19 points per game, and I thought it was pretty nice to find that at nearly pick 100.

9.02 Joel Embiid
Not much to think about with this pick. Was looking at Noel and Embiid with the last pick and figured I would decide or get the remaining one with this pick. Meat took Noel and made the choice for me. As mentioned, Embiid is having a monster preseason and his upside is massive. Rostering both Nurkic and Embiid is certainly a risk, but I thought the reward outweighed it given the foundation I created with my early picks.

8.06. A Gordon
This was another pick where none of the players in my top 20 really excited me too much. I considered a big here like Kanter and Adams but chose to pass. I then looked at Gordon, Matthews and G Hill. Out of all 5 of these guys, I felt Gordon has the greatest potential to improve on his ranking the most. yes Matthews could bounce back from injury but Gordon is young, athletic, Dipo is gone and he has SF/PF flex.
9.07 K Faried
Those that drafted Faried last year were probably very disappointed. Well I had Nurkic last year and I was also disappointed. One thing I remember is the bigs had trouble staying healthy and being consistent. Faried may get traded or he may have to do his damage off the bench. Either way I needed a PF and he is said to be in great shape...hopefully he wants to fight for his old spot back
10.06 KCP
This selection was simply a value pick and a category pick. It isn't easy to find steals and 3s in the FA market and KCP provides both of these.
11.07 A Jefferson
I had narrowed my list down to Alfarouq, Jefferson and Ingram. I wanted Alforouq but he went right before me. probably should have taken Ingram for his potential but instead I settled for old Al without the Farouq part. I know M Turner is this years breakout candidate. At the same time, old Al is still a quality NBA guy who can do decent damage off the bench in 20-22 minutes a game.

10.12 Mason Plumlee, PF/C, POR
Still trying to make up some big man stats from my early draft run on guards. Plumlee seems to have close to 30 mins per game locked down as the starting center. He's projected for 10 pts 8 reb 3 ast and close to a steal and block. He hurts in FT% but I still think my team can take the hit. By no means is this a sexy pick, just a need pick with a good floor and some upside.
11.01 Kyle Korver, SG, ATL
He's coming off a down year after having a couple surgeries before last season. Before that he was pretty consistently one of the best 3-point specialists. Obviously his athleticism isn't a huge part of his game, so I feel comfortable he can bounce back. I'm pleased about getting someone I feel stays on my roster all season (barring injury) in the 11th round.

11.09 Matthew Dellavedova, SG, Mil
I’m wanting to bolster assists so Delly will do here. In 14 starts last season he averaged 9 pts, 6 assts, 3 bds, 1.7 threes, 0.5 steals on 45% shooting and 93% from the line. He’s played well this preseason and is locked into the starting role after the trade of MCW. A little frustrating he isn’t PG eligible in ESPN but hopefully he gains it during the season.
12.04 Kris Dunn, PG, Min
I only have Deron Williams as a PG eligible player and Dunn has some upside at this spot. He hasn’t been shooting well this preseason but is assisting, rebounding and stealing at a nice clip. Rubio has been in trade rumors, and Thibs said he doesn’t anticipate starting Dunn for about 20 games (meaning he will likely start in 20 games?). Dunn may not be start-able for me out of the gate but at this point in the draft I can think a little longer term.

11.12 Gary Harris
Second guard from Nuggets? Not sure what I was doing here---but Harris could remain the starter for the Denver team after surprising many last year. Totally expect him to duplicate the success this season but to think about him averaging more than 12/3/3 may be a reach. Regardless, so long as he could have the starter minutes he could often be counted on to contribute.
12.01 Mirza Teletovic
After losing Kyle Korver couple of rounds ago, I would like to need more 3PT help here. Teletovic may have proved to which extent he is capable of if given the opportunity. And the unfortunate injury to Khris Middleton does give Teletovic a shot to shine for Bucks, a team lacks long-range shooting without Middleton.

12.12 Taj Gibson, PF, CHI
I felt I needed a little boast in FG%/REB/BLK and Gibson has been a solid player for a few years now. He's never really been fully given starters minutes, and I don't expect that to change, but he will give steady value if he gets 25 minutes plus. He looked good in preseason, but I can't see how a lineup of Rondo/Wade/Butler/Gibson/Lopez can ever hit an outside shot. I expect Mirotic to relegate Gibson to the bench eventually, but I expect Gibson to be more than just an early season cut.
13.01 Seth Curry, SG, DAL
Not sure if this is a reach or not, but we're nearly 150 picks deep, so the core of my team is already established. I liked what I saw from Curry in his late season audition last year. I took a look at his potential role in Dallas and thought there's some definite upside. I'm just hoping this pick isn't a complete bust with him getting 15 mins per game or something. There's always risk in projecting something to happen that never has, and this Curry has never been given good minutes in the league. I think he'll end up having obvious value or be an obvious cut early, so that makes things easier for me, I guess. It's not completely unrealistic seeing an injury open up some serious value here.

10.10 Alex Len C Pho
I only have two C's at this point, and while there are some still on the board, I didn't have anyone else on my list crying " Pick me ". I do regret not grabbing Terrance Jones, who I considered, here and also with my next pick. Nice pick Swish.
I get it, Len is in a timeshare with Chandler, but Tyson is now 34, and tends to get injured. Quite honestly, the Suns are in somewhat of a rebuilding mold, what do they have to gain by playing Chandler.
After Dec 1st last year Len averaged 10 ppg, 8 boards and a block per game, in 25 minutes. He should be able to carve out 25 minutes again this year, and I'll take those averages, and he won't kill my %'s
11.03 Evan Turner SG/SF Por
Finally someone with multi-postion eligibility. It's not apparent if Turner will start for the Blazers, but even if he doesn't, he is versatile enough to earn decent playing time.
Evan will contribute some scoring ( 10 per game? ), but more importantly 4-5 boards and assists and a steal per. I'll take those at this point, especially being SG/SF eligible.
12.10 Jared Sullinger PF Tor
I almost took Taj Gibson here, and now wish I had. Of course he went two picks later. I was just unsure of his PT in Chicago, with Mirotic and "undrafted" on the roster.
Sullinger saw his minutes reduced in Boston with their depth of bigs, and the Celtics parted ways with him after the season. He signed a one year deal with the Raptors, so he has a lot to play for this year.
Sully won't possible contribute much more than the 10+ points and 8+ boards he averaged last year.
13.03 Courtney Lee SG NYK
I'm kind of excited about this pick, at least as excited as you can be with pick 147.
Lee is the starting SG for the Knicks, and has little competition for that spot, virtually assuring him of 30+ minutes. While not a great scorer, Lee is an efficient shooter, and knocks down his Ft's at 85%. I'm thinking 12 points, 1 steal and 1.5 3's per game, with few other counting stats thrown in

He'll at least open the season as the starting point guard. Last season as a starter he was sneakily productive with 5 assts, 5 boards, 1 steal, 0.5 blocks and 3s, with 48% FG.
14.04 Solomon Hill, SF, Nor
A new $52M contract plus an injury elsewhere assures Solomon his starting gig. He's been playing well this preseason and showing the ability to contribute in most categories

A 22 year-old rookie from Croatia, who's listed at #1 on ESPN's article called "Who are the top fantasy rookies this season?". With Simmons being hurt, he'll get more playing time than he might have normally. And he can provide assists and 3s really well for a guy that is 6'10".
11.05 Aminu, Al-farouq SF POR
Mostly drafted because I needed a second player with SF eligibility. It appears he will be the starting PF for the Blazers, so might see a good bump in rebounds from his previous numbers. Not an exciting pick, but can contribute in all the counting stats.
12.08 J.R., Smith SG CLE
I don't really like this guy. Don't know why. But I need a second player with SG eligibility. His main skill is shooting the 3 and playing defense, while staying out of the way of LeBron, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love.
13.05 Mozgov, Timofey C LAL
Oops. Looks like I don't have enough Blocks for my team. And I also need a 3rd Center-eligible player. Mozgov can hopefully get me a few of those blocks. And there doesn't appear to be much competition for playing time in Laker-land for him. Even as player #13 on my team (so on paper ... not one of my starters), I hope I can use him regularly.

14.08 Green, Danny SG SAS
At pick #164 in the draft, it looks like Green has slipped to me. At Rotoworld, he's #85. At Rotowire, he's #112. At ESPN, he's #121. At Yahoo, he's #76. And he went at pick #126 and #138 in the other RIHC drafts.
He had a really poor 2015-16 season. I'm looking for a solid bounce-back and a bunch of 3s.

14.12 John Henson, PF, MIL
Wanted to add a late shot blocker and felt he had the best chance to make a difference for me. Averaged nearly 2 blks per game last season in low minutes, so he's obviously good at what he does. Realistically I have to assume he receives less than 20 mins per, but the upside is relatively massive if he ever gets more. I'm just hoping he's a difference maker as a specialist for me.
15.01 Marcus Smart, PG, BOS
This is a stab in the dark. I drafted Isaiah Thomas early, so he makes decent sense as a handcuff. He's shown flashes, but his weaknesses overshadow his potential at this point. If he can give me some value in AST, STL, 3PM and doesn't butcher my shooting percentage, he has a chance to make it past week one on my roster.

Rebuilding young team needs veteran presence so Deng can have a consistent role, playing in both Brandon and Randle spot. Useful, nothing more.
12.7 Andrew Bogut C
Will he stay healthy? If he will, can have bigger role in Dallas. BLKS and REBS will be always there as Bogut is a good defensive player, hopfully he can contribute more on the offensive side of the field this year.
13.6 Joe Johnson F
Have to give a rational on a player that's in the league for 17 years? I ask him to do exactly what he did in the last years, scoring points with some three pointers. Nothing more.

12.06 Clint Capela
After taking several smalls in my first 10 picks, I continue to add Bigs in the second half of the draft. Bogut? Cauley-stein? Gibson? All had a chance to make the squad but with Howard off to Atlanta opening up the battle for playing time at C in Hou, I went with the young guy. While it is not guaranteed large quantities of minutes will go to Clint, I would expect him to get 20+ minutes and produce a decent amount of rebounds and blocks for the 12th round investment.
13.07 R Hibbert
Sticking with the theme I went big again. Roy was a top 60 pick not long ago and is now sitting at pick 151. He is in a new town without much competition for minutes and it was reported that he is working on his skills. I expect 8 pts, good shooting percentage and one of the NBA block leaders if he plays 25 minutes a game.
14.06 D Powell
All my needs have been filled so now its time to search for the diamond in the rough. Powell was an interesting player last year and now a year older, he is getting minutes as a back up to Dirk and even Bogut. Neither Dirk or Bogut are spring chickens. Powell will be one of the first off the bench each night and should get 20+ minutes with great potential to be playing big minutes if either Dirk or Bogut are out.
15.07 W Chandler
This pick was going to be Matt Barnes but he went three before me. It wasn't a big deal because I am very intrigued by Chandler. He missed most of last year and there is a lot of young talent in Den but the guy has skills to fill stats across the board. Like Powell/Bogut in Dallas, Chandler is only a Gallinari injury away from significant minutes. What Gallinari injury? No way.

Had Barton last year, he had a great run in the middle of the season. Plays a different position than Gallinari but should benefit in minutes if he goes down.
13.10 F Kaminsky
Diamond in the rough stage of the draft. Frank got 21 minutes a game last year, ave 7.5-4. Preseason at 30 mins 15-8.
14.03 M Harrell
If Montrezl can find his way to the floor, he will be a great source of hustle stats. Also shoot a high percentage.
15.10 E Davis
Another returner from last years squad. Can help with boards.
16.03 T Rozier
16th pick is always reserved for a fringe ex Cardinal, kind of like Spurrier always giving Duke a vote in the coaches poll. A few year back it was Gorgui Dieng which worked out great.

I was really looking for Booker here, but he was gone. I also liked Levine. So anyways since I was picking all the old men of the NBA I went with Wade. I like the move to CHI, but I think it's going to be a star of the night team between the 3 back court stars. I like that Wade doesn't hurt me much (when he's playing).

I had him as a FA late last season and he helped the team. He'll be a starter so at this pick he's worth it. Welcome to team YGAOF.
15.08 - McCaw Patrick
I had TJ Warren, Devin Booker and a center to be named later here. Then I went looking at depth charts and saw McCaw. If the Warriers are going to contend for the championship this year, they're going to need to rest there stars. Also, I expect a lot of blow outs, so McCaw will get his time to shine.
16.04 - Hernangomez, Willy
Yes, he's behind Joakim Noah, or should that be Yes! He's behing Joakim Noah.
Can I start the Free Willy meme now! Seriously, there's a lot of potential here for Willy to get time, but he's more of a stash. No real expectations here, and he'll probably be the first guy I drop for the FA of the week.

7.04 Jrue Holiday
After securing Bledsoe early on, i'm becoming acutely aware of the need to re-up assists output, preferably with another decent quality PG. Those are hard to find in round 7, and given the quality left on the table, the vast majority have some kind of reasonably serious deficiencies.
That lead me to 'punt' on Holiday. Obviously, his personal situation is a grave one, and i wish him all the best. However, i also hope he can return at some point to play a large chunk of the season. I know from past experience how vital it can be to get that boost. Here's hoping to a swift resoloution to his personal matter, and a telling contribution to my squad.
8.09 Steven Adams
After several frankly crazy oversights to fill my Centre position, i just had to get one here with the crop drying up. I consider myself very, very lucky to get Adams at this point. Preseason points to a significantly larger role post-Durant/Ibaka. I have a good feeling this can translate to a ranking significantly higher than this draft slot.
9.04 Rodney Hood
I'm still light on guards, but i would have definitely taken Joel Embiid if he was not snapped up a few picks before. After that blew up, it was a case of best guard available. Hood is in a good position to consolidate on a top 75 season with Hayward out to start the season.
10.09 Tim Frazier
I had this pick pretty much pegged out from the off, so glad it came off. Bagging Jrue's handcuff is a win win for me, especially if Tim can carve out a role in the meantime. Given the sterling run Frazier went on to finish the season, i'm expecting some pretty high assist output.
11.04 Terrence Jones
At time of the pick, Anthony Davis was likely out for the first few weeks of the season. That outlook seems to have changed but my opinion on Terrence has not. The Pelicans sport an injured starting SF, an injury prone star PF and an ineffectual Centre timeshare. Jones has plenty of playing time to aim for, and he's only a season away removed from top 50 value. I'll take that upside at 124. I might have taken Len or Plumlee here if they were not snaffled in the run up to the pick.
12.09 Willie Caulie-Stein
I'm still desparate for a 2nd eligible centre. Seeing Capela and Bogut disappear hurt and had me scrabbling down my Centre charts. I think Willie has a decent chance to come close to his good 2nd half showing from last season. That's all i can reasonably hope for in round 12.
13.04 Jerami Grant
Having filled some positional needs, i had some focus on hustle stats here. Grant is a great choice for these at this point. 2.3 combined blocks and steals last season, along with increased opportunity from injuries this season, and reports of improvement in the offseason leave me happy with this pick.
14.09 Tyler Johnson
Would have preferred Josh Richardson here, but happy enough with Tyler, who shot a stellar 49% from the field last season. If he can carve out a 25 minute role, which is very possible given the departure of Wade, i think he'll be an effective low end contributor.
And kudos to Tosh on the Danny Green pick. I felt certain he would fall to me, and i would have gobbled him up in the 160s. Great pick.
15.04 Matt Barnes
I still felt a bit sour about losing Danny Green, but i got a great consolation the next round in Barnes. The Kings don't have much firepower outside of Cousins, and if Gay gets moved, this could be great for Barnes. Ultimately, Barnes is always a threat for the 1/1/1 club. Wilson Chandler was also a consideration, but i'd rather have more steals and blocks than 3s and scoring at this point.
16.09 Kyle Anderson
A pick of opportunity. My queue was wiped out and i did not have time to scour, but browsing through the Yahoo boxes from the last few days revealed Anderson. When i also read that Danny Green was out for a while, and that Pop 'has to find this guy more time', just decided to go for it.

Mr. Irrelevant of the RIHC draft, and it couldn't be a more fitting nickname for this human. I could be insane, but I see a magical potential of fantasy goodness ready to burst out when age and opportunity meet. Odds are not high it happens this year, if ever, but D'Antoni has given him more run than past coaches and he is arguably Houston's best defender at the moment.

At this point, I pretty much had my roster filled. Michael had his season shortened last year and actually has missed 122 games over the last 3 seasons. So what was I thinking?
I'm thinking I'm getting a starter, albeit an oft injured one, but one who is a decent rebounder from the SF slot, but also one who lacks the 3 point range you typically get in a SF
MKG should be able to score 12 ppg, grab 6.5 boards while shooting respectable %'s

I had Afflalo last year and found him to be a pretty boring guy to own. But last year I drafted him much higher than the next to last round.
That doesn't make him any less boring, but he is at least a starter for the Kings, capable of scoring in the low teens,knocking down better than a 3 per game.
I guess that's acceptable for the 171st player taken
16.10 Dante Exum SG Uta
Throw away pick, 3rd from the last player taken. Exum has had an injured plagued carrer, but is still only 21. He's had a few decent games in the pre-season, so why not take a gamble here. If he doesn't pan out, he goes in the scrap heaop for the next hot waiver add

13.12 Trey Lyles
He is going to back up both Gobert and Favors and should be the first one coming off the bench. I grabbed him partly because of his capability of delivering outside the arc. Plus, Lyles could benefit most with Derrick Favors nursing his knees. Should improve quite a lot from last year's performance.
14.01 Jerryd Bayless
Did not even bother to check Bayless's status here---another evidence that I am usually not well prepared for the things. He would have been a solid point guard if he were healthy. However, with no specific timetable to return (whether having the surgery or not) he will be the first person I drop this season.
15.12 Kelly Oubre Jr.
Playing behind Otto Porter apparently limits Oubre's upside. That said, the coach may still find ways to give him minites to keep him relevant. With the potential of around 20 minutes of playing time, Oubre undoubtedly will be making some serious contribution to the Washington team.
16.01 Willie Reed
After Wade, Deng, and Bosh are no longer with the team, there should be a lot of basketball going around this year for Heat. Reed is entrenched to backup Whiteside. Since I spend big money on Whiteside on my another fantasy team, I have no intent to say anything unfortunate about him. Still, after an impressive preseason Reed should have earned a spot in the rotation.

10.11 Ish Smith
Through 9 picks, I only had 1 true PG in Westbrook. Some of my picks along the way like Batum and Clarkson chipped in Assists but I was looking for a PG here. I didn't think a legit starter would be available but I was able to find a good fill-in starter in Ish. He was great last year starting at various points and he's slated to get the start this year too until Reggie Jackson is healthy enough to return. At the time, the timetable was a bit murky but I believe the latest news is that RJax could miss a month, so a starting PG in round 10 for more than just a few games and possibly longer seemed like a nice get.

11.02 Zack Randolph
My projection tool showed that I could use a big in this spot, so I looked at PF. Two names stood out to me, Randolph and Jamychal Green. I did consider Brandon Ingram purely for upside, but thought I'd play it a bit safer and try to fill needs instead of go for the potential. Randolph seemed the obvious choice of he and Green, but the fact that Green is to start did give me some pause. Ultimately, I took the safety in Randolph's consistency over the potential in Green's growth, but was lucky enough to nab Green with my next pick.

As mentioned previously, I was debating Green and Randolph with my 11th round pick. When I woke up to see Green still available, I didn't give it much thought and selected him. Between Randolph and Green, I figure one will present themselves as a consistent big option.

13.02 Lou Williams
This late in the draft I was just looking for players that had the potential to be above average contributors in a few positions. Williams fit the bill. At the time, it was unclear whether he or Clarkson would start at SG, but either way, I figured Lou's veteran presence on a young Lakers team would earn him solid PT. He still has the ability to score a lot, hit a few 3's, and be a strong contributor in FT.

14.11 E'Twaun Moore
Though I didn't actively watch and hope certain guys fell, I did consider the possibility of taking a few guys if they were available in the later rounds: Marquese Chriss, T.J. McConnell, Trey Lyles, Josh Richardson, and Dwight Powell, among others. Somehow, all these guys went between my last pick and this one. I had a few other young/upside/potential guys on my radar but I was fortunate enough to be up when news broke that Moore was going to start in the rotation to begin the year. He performed well at times in the starting role last year and I thought it was a good value pick here as. At the very least, he should be able to chip in a few points and 3's.

Not much thought to this pick and not much knowledge of the picked player either. I wanted some upside here so I read a few rookie rankings and saw that Murray was having a solid preseason so I rolled the dice on him.
