0 Subject: RIHC 2017-18: rationale collection thread

Posted by: Guru

RIHC managers: Please post your rationales in this thread. Rationales are due on a two round lag (i.e., when you make you 3rd round pick, your 1st round rationale is due.) You can post any rationale sooner than that if you wish.

Do not worry about placeholders or keeping things in the proper sequence. This is just a place to collect rationales, which I will then transfer over to the formal rationale thread in the proper sequence. This approach has worked well for the past several seasons, and I now have a somewhat automated method for making those transfers.

Remember that you should refrain from mentioning undrafted players. If you feel that your rationale requires that, then hold it back until the player has been drafted - unless the player mentioned is clearly undraftable this year.

Al Horford, C, BOS

Zzzzzzzzzz. Horford is a solid but really boring player. I contemplated all of the Celtics that were taken here (Tatum, Hayward) but had Horford a notch higher. Considering the run on Centers leading up to this pick, and continuing after, looking back now I am really glad I got him. He is not much of a scorer and won't sniff double digit rebounds too often, but nearly 5 assists and solid percentages make him a very valuable asset.

11.12, Bobby Portis, PF, CHI

Lauri Maarkanen is out for another 6 weeks at least, opening a big door for Portis. He's a usage beast, so starting or off the bench probably won't matter. He'll score heavily and efficiently, and could be something like 18-8 in the first month whilst the Bulls acclimatise their new faces. Very pleased to nab him here.

12.01, Derrick White, PG, SAS

I considered a few other guards here, but plumped for White in the end, mainly due to upside and opportunity. Dejounte's injury puts him in the box seat, and already Pop came out and called him "Our Guy" at PG. His advanced metrics from the G-League and College hold up well, exemplified by a 4.9% collegiate block rate. Maybe there will not be many assists, but if he turns out to be a tertiary scorer and can supply me 14ppg along with 4apg and some blocks, steals and 3s, that's good enough for me here.

6.02 Jeff Teague - MIN - PG
I was looking for a 2nd point guard to help in the assist category. I expect Teague to average about 7 assists and shoot for a high FT%. His numbers are about average for a point guard in all other categories.

7.11 Darren Collison - IND - PG
Collison is the starting point guard for Pacers again this season. I expect his numbers to be similar to last season when he averaged 12.4 points, 5.3 assists, 1.4 3PM, and had above average FT% and FG%.

8.02 Jaylen Brown - BOS - SG
Brown was the 3rd overall pick in the 2016 draft. Watching him play against the Sixers in last years playoffs, he was a leader and showed a lot of heart playing through a hamstring injury. Even with the return of Irving and Hayword to the Celtics, I expect Brown to continue to have a major role. Still only 21 years old, I expect his numbers to improve this season.

9.11 Jabari Parker - CHI - PF
With only one player F eligible on my roster, I wanted to pick up a couple of forwards with picks 9.11 and 10.02. With Lauri Markkanen sidelined to start the season, Parker will be starting in his natural PF position. He has a big upside if he stays healthy.

Needed another forward and Young seemed to be the best option available. Even though the Pacers want to increase the role of Sabonis, I still think Young will produce around the same numbers as the last few seasons contributing in several categories.

11.11 Mohamed Bamba - ORL - C
Rookie Mo Bamba has a huge wingspan and the potential to be a star in the NBA. He has looked good in the preseason. He seems like he is working hard to improve his game. He will need to put on weight to become a top Center. I expect him to play around 20 MPG this season and put up solid RB and Block numbers.

4.06 Aaron Gordon PF ORL

I might have reached here, maybe not. Gordon is only 23 years old and has improved each year in the league. Last year was his best ( no coincidence to the fact he logged a career high 32 min per game ), averaging 17.6 points, 8 boards, 2+ assists, and a combined 2 steals/blocks. His %'s leave a little to be desired, but I think I can withstand his subpar FG%, and my FT% is heading toward the toilet anyway.

Last season he topped 40 points a game twice and 15 boards twice, so lets see what he can do this year. I'm expecting him to take it to the next level

5.07 Jarrett Allen C BKN

Everyone's favorite sleeper it seems, so much so, I don't think you can consider him a sleeper. Getting him in round 5 seems a slight discount from other drafts I've seen.

Allen didn't play much early on last year, but did get meaningful action towards the end. He finished averaging 8.2 points, 5.4 baords and 1.2 blocks, in only 20 minutes per.

I'm envisioning Allen will end the year as a 15/10/2 guy, limited steals and assists, but with extraordinary %'s.

6.06 Zach Lavine SG CHI

Zach was a 7th round pick in our league 2 years ago, and I don't believe he was a starter back then for Minnesota. We all know last season was basically a lost year for him due to a torn ACL.

He played the final 1/3 of the season, and averaged 16.7 points, 4 RB's 3 assists, 1 steal and 1.8 triples. Noteworthy, his FG% was a full 7 points off his 2 prior years.

Rust, maybe. I'm banking his FG% reverts back to his career norms, which will give him a nice boost in points and 3's

7.10 Jaren Jackson, Jr., PF, MEM

Had Josh Richardson at the top of my queue for this pick and watched him go just before me. I like the upside of JJJ on a rebuilding Memphis team that really has no reason to start anyone else at PF. My guess is that he will not start at the beginning of the season but will move up fairly quickly. He should get plenty of minutes off the bench. He has the tools to be a significant contributor in every category.

8.03 DeMarcus Cousins, C, GS

Well, here's where my center "strategy" comes to fruition. After waiting too long to get 2 solid starters at Center, I'm banking on about a half season from Boogie. If he's at close to full go around the midpoint, this roster slot will produce the average of the player starting the year and the stats from Cousins in the 2nd half. I'm hoping that yields satisfactory production from the Center 2 slot. Early reports on his progress are encouraging but I'm not counting on anything just yet. I expect a fair number of off days (and 4th quarters) once he's ready to play but the potential here to "fix" my Center issues was too enticing.

9.10 DeAaron Fox, PG, SAC

Maybe a little bit of a reach here but I really wanted him on my roster. He's supposed to have improved his shot in the off season and I'm counting on a significant progression/improvement in all phases to make this a worthwhile place to add him. He's a big part of the Kings' future and he should log heavy minutes and be a focal point of both their offense and defense.

10.03 Kelly Olynyk, PF/C, MIA

Only listed at Center on ESPN right now but I expect that to change as he's slated to begin the year as the starting PF with James Johnson recuperating from an injury. He becomes the half season center mentioned in the description of Cousins above. He doesn't produce the usual Center-type stats in rebs or blocks but he makes up for that with points, assists, and good %s. He could also swing into Jaren Jackson's slot if the minutes aren't there early in the season.

11.10 Jordan Bell, C, GS

More Cousins insurance. Hoping he gets the largest share of the minutes as either starting Center or back up PF until Boogie is ready. If he gets 20 - 25 minutes a game he'll help out in blocks and rebounds.

7.07 Joe Ingles SF/PF UTA

I really struggled with this pick. I know I needed a PG ( I really hate ESPN's limited flexibility ), adn I considered Trae Young and two others who fell to me later. Josh Richardson was also tempting, and maybe a comparably choice.

But I couldn't get past Ingles. He doesn't score much ( 11.5 per last year ), doesn't block any shots, but everything else.... WOW.

Ignoring the points ( and they aren't awful ) and blocks, how does 2.5 treys, 4.2 RB's, 4.8 dimes, and over a steal per game sound.

It sounds good to me

8.06 Elfrid Payton PG NOR

I finally grabbed a PG. I also considered Fultz and Sexton.

Elfrid isn't a great scorer, doesn't hit many 3's for a PG, and he doesn't need to in NOR, But he will contribute assists, boards and steals, and he fills a void for me. I'm actually happy with him here.

Best line.... Rotoworld in their player profile observed;

Payton also got a new haircut, so maybe his percentages trend up now that he can see the rim.

12.02 Rondae Hollis-Jefferson - BKN - SF
Hollis Jefferson had an off season adductor injury and has not played in the preseason. He has seen some limited practice and I expect him to return early in the season. He posted solid scoring and rebounding numbers last season. His numbers have improved in each of his 3 NBA seasons and I expect them to improve again this season.

6.11 Carter Jr., Wendell - CHI - PF

Rookie #3. 7th overall pick, was named to the All-NBA Summer league first team. One thing is for sure, Carter Jr. is going to record a ton of blocked shots and that was I needed. Possible starter for two months.

7.02 Saric, Dario - PHI - PF

The centers from my queue are gone.
I hope Saric continue to work as at his natural power forward spot. His age suggests he can continue to improve his overall skill set.

8.11 Mcgee, Javale - LAL - C

Center needed. McGee is athletic, can switch, protect the rim, flush alley-oops, and get out in transition.

9.02 Osman, Cedi - CLE - SF

I believe Osman can be the number two in Cleveland. He has a really nice, well-rounded game which should allow him to put up friendly numbers this season.

10.11 Lamb, Jeremy - CHA - SF

Jeremy Lamb is slated to start. Last year was the first in which he received more than 20 minutes per game. He has looked good so far in the preseason and could be a nice pick.

11.02 Gay, Rudy - SAS - PF

Gay remains as the only small forward on the roster in San Antonio. He ranked just outside the top 150 last season in only 22 minutes per game. That number is set to soar.

12.08 Harry Giles

This is what happens when you are drafting in multiple leagues at the same time, wake up and immediately look at your cellphone, see its your pick, panic, think a player is already taken, then make some apparently random selection. Ugh.

For some reason, I thought Dennis Schroder was already taken. Ooops, well he went immediately after mine.

All that said, I really like Harry Giles. I just would have really liked him more if this was my G20 roster. He does have a nice injury history, dating back to high school! Plays on the complete cluster-f that is Sactown. Vlade is a terrible GM, but any GM for Sactown is terrible, apparently.

13.05 Avery Bradley

In Doc Rivers I trust. Seen a few articles lately on Doc using younger guys more. Come on, its Doc. Hasn't met a rookie he couldn't squander on the bench. FREE AVERY!

I've got a need for another G/SG, and I've had him queued up for a round or two. Injury last year...check. I'm hoping for a standard line from him of a 1.5+ 3s, 1+ steals, with solid G percentages.

9.07 Markelle Fultz PG PHI

I had to choose between Payton and Fultz last round, Fultz was still here for this pick, so why not. I was tempted to take Levert here, and almost wish I had

Last years #1 pick out of college, Markelle had a nightmare rookie season. He did play the last few weeks with mixed success, but did notch a triple double in the final game.

There's allot of mouths to feed in Philly, and he might not make a lot of 3's, but he will contribute in RB's, assists, and steals

10.06 Larry Nance PF CLE

I read that Cleveland views Nance as one of the building blocks of the future Lebron is no longer in uniform, someone has to score and rebound, other than Love.

His FT% could be concern ( not on my team ) as well as lack of 3's. But he should score 10-12 points and I can see him averaging 8-10 boards and a combined 2 steals/blocks.

I'm OK with that

10.10 Lauri Markkanen, PF, CHI
after taking so many bigs I am a bit behind in 3's. The NBA is 3-crazy right now. every player is developing his 3pt shot, so the number of 3's necessary to earn good points raises. Since I am having a few players that basically do not provide any 3's I need to make up their deficiencies with players that score 2+ per game.
Markkanen is such a player. too bad he is still out for around 6 weeks, which should amount to approximately 20 games. therefore I reduced his value by 25% and he was still close to the top of available players and the best option providing 3's. he should provide me a nice boost come December. until then I need to find someone that fills his void.

11.03 JJ Redick, SG, PHI
I am still in the hunt for 3's and steals. looked at a lot of players but did only like Redick and Caldwell-Pope for this pick. in the end I took Redick because he gets more 3's, but less steals. I don't see many high volume 3pt shooters still left and there is hope that the required steals will still be there in the next few rounds.

11.08 . Taj Gibson PF
Homer pick as he has been steady for twolves.. Looked at M. Morris as alternative as both have good FG and RB stats.

12.05 . DJ Augustin PG
Cannot have too many PG for assists and DJ does not have much competition for minutes, so suspect may play a lot and assists and hope stats at least match last year.

13.08 . bogdan Bogdonavic . SF
Injured but has been improving every year and hopefully take another one this year. He also is SG/SF for flex.

12.09 , Dennis Schroder, PG

I had Schroder on my radar for a couple of rounds and apparently was lucky to get him with this pick, thx RSF :). If Russ misses any significant time he will put up great numbers for a 12th round pick. As is he will be the main man off the bench and probably playing a lot of minutes, he'll put up solid points, good ft% and hopefully some solid assist numbers.

13.04 , Markieff Morris,PF

Kieff is starting as of right now but is set to get some nice minutes even when Howard returns. He's not a traditional big man but adds a three a game, doesn't kill fg% or ft% and decent boards. Not much upside here, seems like I've said that for a lot of my picks, am I playing it too safe? Guess we'll see.

14.09, Jonathan Simmons, SF

This is a position choice as much as anything as I wanted another option for SF. Simmons puts up decent points, and won't kill %'s. A three a game and almost a steal would be nice. Hey it's the 14th round if he sticks on the roster all year that would be great.

9.09 Dwight Howard, C, WAS
After 14 seasons, it’s pretty easy to forecast what Howard will provide me. 15-17 points. 12-13 rebounds. 1.5 blocks. Zero 3PM. And a FT% that can kill a fantasy season.

But I need a second starting center, and it’s already very slim pickins’. The projected standings on my draft software shows me going from 8 points to 4 points in FT% after drafting Howard. So maybe he won’t kill my season after all …

10.04 Kent Bazemore, SG ATL
He’s an all-around and consistent contributor with ‘Steals’ being his best contribution. And I need to fill the ‘SG’ slot. But he’s about as exciting as an accounting firm’s Christmas party. I’m hoping that this is the year he makes me want to watch a Hawks game.

11.09 Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, SG, LAL
When Ryan Rowland-Smith made his debut with the Seattle Mariners in 2007, he became the first player with a hyphenated last name to appear in a major league game. I only bring this up because it’s more interesting than anything I can come up with on this hyphenated-name guy.

He may be boring, but he does contribute in 7 of the 8 categories. And with LeBron James getting the attention … hopefully he’ll fire up 15+ 3-pointers a game.

12.04 Dewayne Dedmon, C, ATL
My draft software shows me falling behind in ‘Blocks’. Dedmon is a rebounding-specialist that can score 10-11 points a night. And he should also average around 1 block a game.

He’s currently banged up with an ankle issue, but hopefully it won’t hold him out past Halloween.

13.09 Rajon Rondo, PG, LAL
Back in the stone age, when I played some ball in college, I preferred to make a good pass rather than take a shot. Rondo is a disciple of this same style of play. He’ll be a valuable contributor for me in ‘Assists’ and ‘Steals’. And more so if he can run as a starter. Because passing to LeBron leads to more assists than passing to undrafted.

14.04 Marcin Gortat, C, LAC
As the 14th man on my roster, I’m looking for a player that is supposed to be a starter now … rather than having upside at some point later in the season. He’s not a sexy pick, but he is currently listed as a starter for the Clippers. He’ll provide basic bottom-end big man stats.

6.07 Paul Millsap,PF, DEN

Honestly I wanted several of the players that went ahead of me,including Nurkic, Teague and Barton. Considering I have a couple if pedestrian scores on board (Gobert, Horford) I knew I wanted a scoring gunner soon as well. That list included LaVine and Russell in particular. But there seemed enough of those guys out there, and these guys are ranked a bit lower so I think they may fall....

....so I take a steady, multi-category performer in Millsap here. A member of the prestigious 1/1/1 club, he does a lot across a variety of categories - something I value here.

7.06 Nicholas Batum, SG, CHA

Well, my strategy of getting a high-ish scoring gunner here went out the window, as D'Angelo Russell, Eric Gordon, Dennis Smith and Dragic all go on this turn. While that was disappointing, another multi-category guy falls in Batum. A year away from his injury that kept him out a month or so last year may help him reach his former glory. Even a full season of his averages last year make this a valued pick.

I wish I had the time and availability (I believe I was in Tokyo Disney during this period) to see if my reliance upon multi-category guys (Horford, Millsap and now Batum - as opposed to category stuffers in certain cats) - will be to my benefit or detriment. I guess we will see.

8.07 Tim Hardaway Jr, SG/SF,NYK

So I get my gunner. With my last 3 picks all being mediocre scorers, I felt I really needed an 18ppg guy here, and Hardaway fits that bill. Hardaway is very likely to be the Knicks' #1 option so there is opportunity for even more. It will certainly be to my fg% detriment, but we all have to absorb some categorical hits as we get into the middle rounds.

9.06 Harrison Barnes, SF, DAL

Barnes does not have a statsheet-stuffing profile, but he does score at around a 17-18ppg clip, which is a need. The arrival of Doncic and the development of Dennis Smith could take shots away from Barnes.....but I prefer to think having those guys will only open things up for Barnes and the Mavs to his benefit. More easy buckets on the break and more wide open threes could provide better fg% to go along with the points.

Oh well....

It's not like Johnson is bad. In 2016 he was in the 1/1/1 club along with 5rpg and nearly 4ast. His numbers were a little down in 2017 but I see him coming closer to 2016's production.

The issue with Jackson is health. Players who can put up 18/3/6 type lines are long gone by now. But Jackson just cannot stay healthy so he falls here. In round 11 he is worth the risk....hopefully he plays 60 healthy games.

13.02 Spencer Dinwiddie, PG, Bkn

I like Spencer Dinwiddie, as he was a pleasant surprise last year while D’Angelo Russell was injured. He was the only Net to play 80 games last year.

14.11 Mario Hezonja, SF, NY

Hezonja had a mini-breakout at the end of last season. He should step into a sizeable role immediately, as offers a strong steals and threes combination.

A pick I intended to make! Yes! Jeremy Lamb has always disappointed. It seems for 4 years he has had a chance at a breakout and always gets hurt or is just outperformed. At least I get to watch Crabbe locally here

12.06 Jakob Poeltl C SAS

I needed a C eligible player here ( and wouldn't have if I took Bamba ) last round, and needed additional help in blocks.

Jakob is now in San Antonio, Pau has been around forever, and although basically healthy two of the past 3 years, he has had injury issues in the past.

Jakob is as young as Pau is old, so I think he has a reasonable chance of earning decent playing time.
In only 18 min per game last year he averaged 7 points, 5 boards, and 1.2 blocks per game. An uptick with additional PT makes sounds good

15.05 George Hill

Well. I'm pretty light on guards and George is a guard. That's about it. He's been named as the starter, for what that's worth, Collin Sexton and all. Cleveland is going to be relegated to the G-League, if not the Lietuvos krepšinio lyga.

I bet for George, this feels like Sacramento all over again. Damn you Vlade.

14.08 James Ennis III

Hoping he turns out to be Trevor Ariza. Not a light version, but a carbon copy of last season's. Preseason numbers look fairly solid, so we'll see how those 3s and steals translate. Solid FG%, but light on attempts.

13.07 Bojan Bogdanovic SF IND

Again, needed 3's. Looked at the other dude with a similar name, but he's coming off knee surgery, so...

Bojan doesn't seem to have much competition at the 3 for the Pacers, and rarely misses any games, knock on wood..

He averaged over 14 ppg, over 3 boards, nearly 2 triples per game, but little else.

I'm OK with that with pick 151

14.06 Isaah Thomas PG DEN

Someone would have to take him, may as well be me. I'm actually surprised he didn't get picked earlier.

We all know the deal with Isaah. Yeah, he's been hurt, and yeah lest year was a lost year. But he's only one year removed from an almost MVP season, where he averaged 28.9 points, 6 dimes, 1 steal, 3 RB's and 3.2 treys.

Denver is loaded with offensive talent, and if Isaah makes it back on the court ( probably when, not if ). He probably wont ever approach being the same player he was in Boston. But in round 14, I'd be happy with counting stats at 50% of 2 years ago.

12.03 E'Twaun Moore, SG/SF, NOP

Went with a boring but productive starting wing who shoots well and has been tasked with putting up more 3s this year. Played every game last year averaging 31 minutes, scored 12.5, 3 rb, 2 dimes and shot 42% from 3 and 51% overall with 1 steal per game. If he matches last year, I'll be happy.

13.10 Trey Lyles, PF, DEN

Maybe a bit of a reach here (maybe alot) but I was looking to fill a PF and I didn't like the other options. He's looking like the 6th man for the Nuggets able to play either forward position(in real BB not on ESPN). Paul Millsap is getting older and if Lyles gets a bump from last year's 19 minutes a game (which seems likely), he'll improve upon his 10 points, 5 boards and 1 3pt. He's still only 22 so should also see a natural progression as he approaches his prime.

14.03 Trevor Ariza, SF, PHX

Young guy last pick, old guy this pick. Should contribute points, 3s, steals with a few boards mixed in. Main worry is the competition for minutes at SF for a rebuilding team that should be concentrating on developing its young core. If he starts losing minutes, he'll find himself on the wire.

15.10 Josh Hart, SG, LAL

Lottery ticket selection here. Wanted to add a SG and if he gets the minutes, he'll be a great asset. But that's a big if. Another wire candidate if the minutes don't materialize.

16.03 JJ Barea, PG, DAL

Going into the last 4 picks, I wanted to add 1 of each of the positions except C. He doesn't need to play huge minutes to be a significant source of assists if that category needs help. Locked in as the back up PG, he likely stays on my bench unless an injury either forces one of my players out of the lineup or Dennis Smith misses significant time.

12.10 Patrick Beverley, PG, LAC
since I am still short at guard stats I looked around at players that provide 3's, assists and steals. the list was not long and the only one who is projected to start is Beverley. I don't mind his low scoring because I am ahead so he is good fit for my team.

13.03 Miles Bridges, SF, CHA
all starters worth something are basically gone. I don't see much upside in picking any of them other than to replace them with the hot pickup in week 1. So I better guess who these players might be.
Bridges has a solid preseason, he is expected to play at 3 positions (sf, pf, c), which should provide my team some position flexibility. he is only 20 and it needs to be seen how he does when the games count.

14.10 Ryan Anderson, PF, LAC
still light on 3's. also need a forward for insurance reasons. would like to get someone who gets 30+ minutes a game. he should fit the bill. not much more to say.

15.03 Jordan Clarkson, PG/SG, CLE
could still use some 3's, assists and steals, so a guard was likely to get picked. not many options out there. Clarkson looked good in limited preseason play, so if he ever gets the minutes in a Lebron-less offense he might be worth something.

16.10 Patty Mills, PG, SAS
with Murray and White out for extended periods, Mills is the only player on the Spurs squad with prior PG experience, so he should be the logical choice to fill in unless they trade for someone. if not for those injuries he would have been way off anyones radar.

15.08 . Shai Gilgeous-Alexander . PG
Another flyer and rookie for my squad. In addition a tongue twister pick with interesting name. He has played well in the preseason which hopefully will translate into minutes during the regular season.

16.05 . Bam Adebayo C
Another flyer and interesting name. Felt I needed another center to potentially fill GP at center. He is a backup and may need injury to play enough but as second year player, he appears to be on the rise and If he plays has potential for RB and blocks.

15.07 Reggie Bullock SF

There doesn't seem to much love for Reggie out there, although he was taken at pick 158 in another RIBC, so with pick 186, maybe I'm getting him at a discount. Most " expert " drafts seem to ignore him.

It's round 15, and I grabbed a starter, so far so good. Bullock started 52 games last year for the Pistons and posted career highs in every category. Over the final 30 games he averaged 14.8 ppg, 3.3 RB's, 2 assists and 2.6 threes. Even though he contributes nothing in the way of steals or blocks, those numbers seem OK to me.

I'm curious as to how ESPN calculates position eligibility as they have him as a SF, and he in fact started 32 games at SG

Nerlens Noel C OKC

Got to love the name.

I never thought I'd draft Nerlens, but with my last pick, why not. It seems for ever we've been gushing about his ability to fill the box score. Well, for some reason he seems to be injured, maybe in the wrong situation, or maybe just not good enough.

He now finds himself in OKC. Steven Adams is firmly entrenched as the starter, and I know that isn't changing anytime soon. But we keep saying, if only Nerlens can get playing time.

Just noticed, the other night, in 34 minutes, 14 Boards, 2 dimes, 3 steals, 2 blocks.

Yeah, preseason I know., but in round 16, why not. If he is tied to the bench, the waiver wire might be calling his name.

16.08 Chriss Marquese

Chriss is going to be an interesting player to watch. Can Houston get the player development out of him that Phoenix couldn't? The Rockets are fairly thin on "bigs" due to their style of play, but I can see Chriss getting a nice chunk of blocks and lobs. A developing Capela act? We'll see.

15.04, Teey Burke, PG

I had Lin and Hezonga at the top of my que but they were gone when it got back to me. Trey is supposed to start right now but Nkitilina will get a lot of run as well. Trey might give me some decent assists but not much else. I also had Mills right under him in the que which would have been nice seeing how he is probably starting now in San Antonio.

16.09, Chandler Parsons, SF

This is a flier, hoping he can stay reasonably healthy and put up some numbers. He would help in 3's and possibly steals and he's played over 20 minutes in b2b preseason games. Also had Dirk on my que and might have considered Chriss if he was still there.

15.09 Marvin Williams, PF, CHA
He’s getting older, but isn’t Vince Carter or Pau Gasol old. He’s still listed as a starter, but has competition behind him, so who knows how much run he actually receives. If he gets comparable numbers to last season, he’ll likely get some time in my starting lineup.

16.04 Wesley Matthews, SG, DAL
After filling my 12 starting lineup slots … I had four bench slots to fill. The ages of the first three are 32, 32, & 34. I need to add some youth to the bench. 31-year-old Wesley Matthews is that guy!

He’s not the player he was in Portland, and appears likely to lose some of his minutes to younger Mavericks, but he’ll provide an ample number of 3pts and steals.

Game on!

15.06 Wily Hernangomez, C, CHA

Back to back Charlotte bench players??

Well....at the end of the draft you are going for highly marginal starters or bench guys that can offer production with upside if their situation changes. Hernangomez has always been a stats per minute monster, racking up pts and reb in limited minutes. He must he awful on defense because he certainly seems to produce from a fantasy perspective. Zeller is no stud....so I am hoping Wily can take over and get 25 minutes a game.

16.07 Justin Holiday, SF, CHI

Supposed to start for a Bulls team loaded with forwards. Worth a dart to see what happens or be my first cut.

15.11 Cody Zeller - CHA - C
Wanted a 4th Center. In previous seasons I had difficulty finding viable free agent centers to start because of injuries. Zeller looks he will be a start for the Hornets.

16.02 Kelly Oubre Jr. - WAS - SF
Oubre will likely come off the bench for the Wizards and average over about 12 points and contribute in other counting stats.

13.12, Terry Rozier, PG, BOS

There is literally no chance that Kyrie plays 82 games. Scary Terry proved last season that he is a starting level PG and filled in admirably during Kyrie's multiple absences. He should also hold standalone value backing up both guard slots. A fair chance that he lives up to his moniker of #1 handcuff in fantasy basketball.

14.01, Alex Len, C, ATL

Ideally wanted a F eligible here, but the best players, ironically at this stage, i thought were centers. I went with Len over Zeller and Willy because he had a clearer path to minutes with Dedmon out.

15.12, Danny Green, GF, TOR

Really wanted Jason Hart here but he was snapped up 2 picks before. That one hurt. Green seems to under and overwhelm in equal measure, but I'm hoping for some more consistency and usage in Toronto. Also that GF swing is very handy.

16.01, Krystaps Porzingis, PF, NYK

If I'd known about White going down, i probably would have selected another player who could contribute immediately. Still KP with my final pick holds zero risk and could have a huge upside. His return date is unknown and he may not play at all this season. But if he does, it could be a season definer if i can get him back for the home stretch.
