A couple of years ago there was a book "All I Really Needed to Know, I Learned at Kindergarten" by Robert Fulghum. Since I was reflecting on what I learned at Rotoguru during ASB, I decided to apply it here. I originally wanted to just apply strategy hints, but it turned out to also have forum behavior also. Please add your own bits of wisdom.
All I Really Needed to Know, I Learned At RotoGuru
Most of what I really need to know about how to play, when to trade and how to hold, I learned at RotoGuru. Wisdom is not a requirement to play this game, but I’ll give you some anyways.
These are things I learned:
Share everything
. When you come here for advice, be prepared to say why you like your picks. Who knows you might talk yourself into trading into a hot prospect.
Play fair.
When you give out advice, give out only good advice. Remember we’re all trying to help each other.
Don't hit people.
And not your computer either, otherwise you can’t play. Seriously everyone has an opinion around here. Try not to call peoples move’s dumb or stupid. And don’t take everyone’s comments seriously.
Put things back where you found them.
Sometimes trading back into a player you just had last week is a good thing.
Clean up your own mess.
We all want to help you play better, but you’ve got to do some of the work yourself. There are a lot of tools here at Rotoguru; use them and then tell us your quandry.
Don't take things that aren't yours.
Click an ad for Guru. This is a free site, with a lot of free advice. Let’s keep it that way.
Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.
If you post something that has a little bite to it, be sure that no one takes it the wrong way. Heated discussions are fine, but let’s not get into a digital fistfight.
Wash your hands before you eat.
When you’re making a trade, be sure to check and make sure the trade took (in time), before you log out. An invalid roster is a terrible thing to waste.
Flush.
Watch for those sell-offs. If you see one coming, get out as soon as you can.
Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
We all gotta eat!!!
Live a balanced life.
Yeah, look who’s talking. But seriously you’ve got to get out of the house sometimes. As far a the game is concerned, try not to get all the hot players. If one get’s hurt you’ll have no one to trade into.
Learn some and draw and paint and sing and play and work every day some.
See live a balanced life. If you micro-manage your team, you’ll never have any trades for a rainy day. So finish that report that the boss has been waiting on for 3 days and take your kid to a ballgame.
Take a nap every afternoon.
After you’ve checked the Pricemovers (o:
When you go out into the world, watch for traffic, hold hands, and stick together.
You guessed it, always be on the look out for money trains, selloffs, when to hold a player and if you run into hard times, we’re here to feel your pain.
Be aware of wonder.
Be aware of injuries. Try not to trade until all the games are done. That hot player you just bought could go down with a groin injury. Speaking of wonder, sometimes you’ve got to follow the masses, the pricemovers can’t be wrong all of the time.
And then remember the book about Dick and Jane and the first word you learned, the biggest word of all: LOOK. Everything you need to know is in there somewhere.
Use the sartibles, the schedules, keep an eye out for injuries. Review the box scores, look for someone getting more minutes. But while you’re looking, remember to click an ad for Guru.
