OK... if you still haven't read today's blurb from the guru do it immediately.

After all the discussions in this forum Rotoguru is finally ready to enter into the world of sponsorship.

Soooo.... practice what you've been preaching and start donating!

A little word of warning from my side goes out to all the Europeans/Non-US citizens who will try to register at Paypal in order to donate. I tried to register there a coupla months ago - and they never supplied the needed registration code - I know of lots of other Europeans having the same problems. So my advice to you is - forget Paypal and send cash right away.

R5 - you don't "have" to pay at all. Pay when you want and how much you want. If you want to pay nothing, then pay nothing...it's up to you.

Guru - do you have a preference as to whether we use paypal or send a check? I assume paypal costs a comission, so would it be better for you (money wise, anyway) if we just sent a check?

I have no preference. I pay a slight fee to PayPal, but it's not a big deal (and less than the postage you would spend - although you pay that...)

Checks are fine, too. I've rented a private mailbox for this purpose, and I'll probably only check it once a week, so don't worry if you don't hear a quick response. In fact, if you send something by mail, I'd appreciate an email alert so that I remember to check it.

When I saw the thread title, I thought Guru was doing a walk-a-thon or something. ;)

Guru...

I don't feel like regisering through pay-pal, as it would be inconvienient for a student like myself.

So, could you e-mail me your address so I could just mail you the five dollars during the months I use the site? Thanks a bunch...

The mailing address is listed near the bottom of the GuruPatron information page:

Uncommon Cents, LLC
1245 Farmington Ave., PMB 386
West Hartford, CT 06107

Checks should be payable to either "Uncommon Cents, LLC" or "David Hall".

Just sent a paypal payment...

Dave, just an idea, but your "patron page" doesn't have your e-mail listed to use to send pay pal payments. Some Gurupies may not have it. Also, the www.paypal link isn't the one to automatically get you a referral of $5 for those who need to sign up.

Just FYI. Thanks, great site.

I just added my email address to the page for those who want to send directly from their existing account.

It's unfortunate that the "simple" method doesn't include the referral info, but I suspect that most new registrants are unlikely to go through the additional steps needed to earn the $5 bonus. So I think the convenience of the button outweighs that shortcoming.

I caved in and sent some money! I just couldn't help myself, although now I only have $45 dollars to live in for the next month or so, instead of $50. Ramen noodles here I come!!

It's not much, but I should be sending $24-36(only $2-3 a month) over paypal once my dad ok's it. Like I said it's not much, but it will help and I don't really have much money to throw around since i'm going on 16 and will be needing to pay for a car, insurance, and soon college so...but I still feel I need to send Guru something for all his hard work. BTW, all I use are the forums and the 4 week schedule, but its a big help :)

Guru..

Sorry, one more question...

Could I just give you 5 dollars instead of a check? Or, is it just a check or nothing?

Sorry for so many question, but I want to contribute...

Okay,
Done my donation, ordered my shirt.
When do we get the all expense paid trip to Hawaii!!!
Seriously though. Thanks for all you do Guru.
I'm going to miss visiting this place once basketball season is over. But I'll be back in earnest next fall. BTW when do you plan to start selling the baseball caps?
If it doesn't happen soon would you email me and I'll ante up as soon as I get the email.

I tried registering on Paypal, but the DR is not in there... anyways I'll be in the states soon, and I'll try and send the money when I get there. Is it safe to send cash in the mail? it'll never happen here that's why I have to ask.

Sent my donation in as soon as I saw the "promotion". All of us who benefit from this site should contribute according to their means. We have all been accepting the Guru's subsidy for a while now, it's time to give a little back.

Thanks again, Dave.

I'd guess I could also just simply send the cash by snail mail to guru's house. I would trust him to put the money in his pocket, or his kid's college fund. And there'd be no traceable record, except for Guru's continued admiration of me.

And Guru? How much for the Lincoln bedroom?

This whole thing could steamroll into something big. We could organize fund-raiser dinners, just like Ducks Unlimited. Solicit raffle donations, such as Madman's keyboard, Jessica's bloomers or a Tracy McGrady roach clip?

Tee-shirts, hell! Where do I buy Roto-Guru edible panties, Dave Hall stout or a homepage on Guru-net?

Seriously, the check is in the mail.

I've done it, but it's not the safest thing in the world. If I were you, I'd get a postal money order (you can get one at any post office). They are safer than cash, certainly, and the price is 75 cents.

If you are sending a small amount, cash should be fine. I probably wouldn't send $100 in cash, though.

Either way, put it in an envelope that is opaque enough that you can't see through it in the light - or wrap the bill in thick paper.

Klaus - thanks for the advice on PayPal - I am a litte wary of it so will send a bank draft or similar.
