Subject: Has 3 for all ended?
Posted by: Bawler
- [391141912] Tue, Apr 17, 11:48
I just tried to see who other people have selected, and got the following message:
"Top Managers(Season) 1-50 RK Manager SWP Top Managers will be available after the season begins. "
I'm assuming that means that it's over, right?

I hope not, but from the looks of things it has. Whenever I tried to look at someone else's picks, they weren't listed...only their picks through week 25 were there. I suppose we can just chalk it up to another case of SW failing to provide adequate communication to its customers (didn't we discuss this earlier and find some place in the rules where SW said there would be a week 26?).

SW has posted that Week 24 will be extended by two days so the players you have for week 24 will continue to accumulate points. This is contrary to what has been stated before. This subject was brought up a while ago and discussed here and was part of a more recent thread here. The SW link to the clarification is here. Let's see what SW decided to do.

Here's the answer to my own question: "The regular season ends on Wednesday, April 18. Week 24 picks count for Tuesday, April 10 through Wednesday, April 18."
I wonder if that will effect the standings much? I was hoping to get 2 games from all 3 slots, but will only get 2 from one now.. Oh well.

If I was ranked higher than 400, I'd be a little upset. Looking at picks from the top-10 managers in Rotoguru.com's division, it looks like all of them get 1 game from each slot, rather than the maximum of 2 - Alot of Phoenix and GS picks. Was the week also extended in the Survival game?

Frankly, I am a little upset, and I do think this undermines the final standings. I'd like to see Smallworld try to explain the information provided in Cougar's last link (thanks for those, btw), which directly contradicts the direction they have decided to take now. It's not so much that I mind them switching positions midgame (which they still shouldn't have done), but if they were going to do this, they should have notified us of it at least a month in advance, and certainly no later than the beginning of week 25. The way Smallworld has worked this, we had no idea our week 25 picks would be counting for these extra two days, and it could have dramatically altered someone's strategy. Speaking for myself, I consciously decided not to use Mourning this past week and save him for his two games this week. I believe havenbros did the same thing. Of course, Mourning scores 61 points tonight and my plan seems to be working out. However, instead of getting the points and a jump on my Mourning-less competitors, I miss those points while everyone who had Mourning for week 25 receives these "bonus" points. Now that I've thought about how many points Smallworld has screwed me out of, I'm pissed off even more. I believe the results of the game have been severely comprimised, and if I was as close to the #1 spot as havenbros, I'd be even angrier. I think someone definitely needs to bring this to Smallworld's attention.

Well, I e-mailed Don Mathis, but, as I stated in the e-mail, I don't really expect Smallworld to do anything about this. As far as my own overall ranking goes, this is undoubtedly meaningless, but I just like to see things done fairly, especially for the sake of havenbros since he is so close to first.

Ah, and I just noticed my mistake in the previous posts. Whenever I mention week 25, it obviously should be week 24.

My team is in the top ten and although I don't think I could catch the leader, it could make a difference in the overall standings. I made my week 24 selections based upon a separate week 25. The roster freeze area of SmallWorld still talks about a separate roster freeze on April 17th. My guess is that they started the weekly processing and the code was built around 24 weeks. Yesterday if you logged in after the freeze was supose to occur but before the message appeared, you probably noticed that a lot of the areas were gone. There was no overall leaderboard, no selections page, no results page. So the easiest thing would be to change the rules mid-game without any notice.

Well, this move by Smallworld will probably cost me a TV. I also made my picks counting on a two day week, saving Mourning and Brand for those two days. I was so happy last night after seeing the scores, and then to have them set the rules after the fact is very disturbing. If I fall out of the top ten because of this, I don't think I will be playing Smallworld again.

The new login message: ******* Announcements There has been some confusion regarding the last roster freeze of the Survival Hoops season. While the site allowed players to make picks for Week 25 (consisting of the last two days of the regular season), our Game Rules lists only 24 roster freezes, with Week 24 picks counting for the period of Tuesday, April 10 through Wednesday, April 18. We apologize for the conflicting messages, but, as posted, we will only include 24 roster freezes - not 25 - with Week 24 picks counting for the period of Tuesday, April 10 through Wednesday, April 18.
Sign up for Hoops Playoffs Survival!
********
They had conflicting information in the Rules and the FAQ-Roster Freeze areas of the game, and they are sticking with the no Week 25. I had to throw in the Hoops Playoffs Survival message because it seems that SW is very active in selling their pay-for-play games and not keeping their other games running. I am still mad and hope this doesn't cost me a spot in the top ten.

Are they changing these rules on the fly? If you don't use the game rules link they just provided in their announcements, and use the one at the bottem of the announcements page (the link titled "game rules" ) and click on roster freeze. It states:
NOTE: There will be a roster freeze on April 17th, covering games of April 17th and 18th (through the end of the regular season). No playoff games that may be scheduled during that week will count.
I feel that statement is pretty straight forward that there is a roster freeze on the 17th, how can they change that now?

You guys need to just sit tight for 1 day. I have been assured that SW is aware of the situation and is looking to remedy the big problem they have created. I have even heard rumors that they will award prizes to more than one winner should the situation present itself. Please take my last statement only as a rumor at this time, it could just be my way of stirring up trouble too;-)

They actually mislabeled their link. If you look at the URL, their link is to the "help" area of the site, reached by clicking on the help icon in the upper right corner. If you do actually go to the "Game Rules", as Mr Smith said, it tells a completely different story. I don't know about you, but if I wanted to check the rules, I'd go to the game rules section. How convenient of Smallworld to link to the page that supports them (and mislabel it as game rules) and totally ignore the actual game rules which directly contradicts them. And Smallworld should also realize that Three-For-All is different from Survival (ok, maybe I'm just being picky now).
WAB: lol, somehow I don't see that last thing happening. :) If you are able to pull that off, I will own a whole new level of respect for you.

I did a little analysis on the final results. The teams who appear to have the biggest complaint are az4huskers and Prairie Storm, as I estimate one of them would have been the overall winner instead. It is hard to judge because you don't know who would have been (was) selected. Alley-oops surpassed them by having Mourning and Brand in Week 24, and left with slim pickings for Week 25. I will stop complaining now, but it just irks me how SW changes the rules mid-game and without notice.

Couger - You are correct. I would have won and have Emailed what the final stats would have looked like to Smallworld to let them know. I tracked the top 25 managers from the end of week 24 to come up with the final standings.
You can take a look at other peoples selections by selecting the team from the top managers page and then changing the URL. In the URL you will see the numbers 25 and 24, change these to 26 and 25 to see their selections.

Well, stats from the last day of the season still have yet to be updated. I don't know if this is a sign that SW is trying fix their awful mistakes or if it's just more proof of their incompetency.

Something is going on. The stats use to be updated through the end of the season, but Week 24 totals on the Weekly Results page now show only Week 24 numbers, not the Week 24/25 combination. The Top Managers page still reflects the Week 24/25 totals. Maybe SW is trying to fix things.

Just a note to everyone. I received email today indicating that the 'Checks' from the All-Star Survival game was put in the mail today. Now I also won my 'Full season' Survival division, but have not received email concerning those checks yet. This was just to pass this on to anyone else looking to receive check or whether or not SW is still in this thing.

Has anyone ever actually heard back from someone at Smallworld? Multiple voice mail's and E:mail's have all gone unanswered.
What I'm trying to find out is the prize verification schedule (or if there will even be any prizes awarded) for the Three for all game.
If you have a person who actually answers their phone or E:mail, could you post their name.

Just back from vacation and I'm kinda glad I wasn't around last week to throw a nutty over the rules getting changed after the fact. Has anyone heard anything further? As Raz suggested, I did get burned by missing the Alonzo points, but it looks like I end up with a TV either way. Pity the folks who got knocked out of the top ten because of the SW screwup.
Also, I can't log into the full season Survival game any more. Has Kirk or anyone else posted the final results? I'm interested to see how the gurupies and the guy who knocked me out fared.

HB, don't know why you can't get into full season 'Survivor'. I just did so here is the finals. I didn't post them before since the 3 4 All snafu looked like it was affecting outcome of 'Survivor' too, so I wasn't sure if the standings were final or not.

Thanx, Kirk. I'm glad to see that the guy who knocked me out in Round 4 -- HolyMoley -- did well in the Finals, even though we had a very competitive division over Rounds 3 and 4 and he didn't have a lot of studs left. Congrats to everyone who made the Finals. Looks like WAB was the top gurupie finisher.
As for the regular 3-4-all game, I hope that anyone who receives a prize notification will post it here so the rest of us who are expecting one can follow-up if it's not forthcoming.

Speaking of prize notifications. I got my 'CHECK' from the 'ALL-STAR' Survivor game today. If the period of time is consistant for full season game then should receive that check in about another 5 weeks, roughyly end of May, just in time to bet it on the West Champion to win the NBA Championship.

Just an FYI, I haven't forgot about you guys in 3forall, and Pay survivor, and even playoff hoops survivor. I spoke to SW today(after repeated phone calls) about their mishandling of the end of season of those games(along with a few other topics) and am preparing a lengthy post. I hope to have it ready by Saturday evening.
Needless to say I was not pleased by what I was told, as SW reiterated to me their final decision regarding the FINAL freeze period regarding 3forall and pay survivor. After reading my post tomorrow, I hope you will think VERY CAREFULLY about ever playing a SW pay game(or even free game for that matter, unless of course game rules and the changing of said rules have no bearing on your enjoyment level. If that's the case, by all means, play on).
