0 Subject: ESB: TSN's Fan's Column Returns...

Gang:

A few years ago, we had a "Fan's Column" for our premium games. Basically, we believed that our users were better sportswriters then -- well -- some sportswriters, and that getting their feedback on issues made our community more intimate, more humorous, and stronger.

Today, I'm re-instating the fan's column for our premium games -- I'll throw out a topic, you guys will post comments (or email them to me), and we'll "print" the best ones. The possibility even exists that this feature will get you into TSN: THE MAGAZINE, though I can't promise that yet. We can promise you, though, with your permission, that people who play our premium games will be able to contribute to the fan's column and read the fan's column, and that it will be a special part of our community.

So here goes ... Excluding a certain player from North Carolina, our ten most expensive premium game players will be: Shaq, Garnett, Duncan, McGrady, Walker, Webber, Malone, Kidd, Payton, and Francis.

Of these players, which one is the most likely to perform? Who will disappoint? Which player would you want to take? Who will you refuse to take?

Be funny. Be frank. Be opinionated. And get your thoughts onto OUR site ... With our pay hoops product, the Fan's Column will roll once again ...

I would obviously take Shaq because he's the most dominant player in the game and he plays at the weakest position talent wise.

I would not take Malone because his numbers are declining and it due for a breakdown IMHO.

Where is Kobe?

Sorry my post is not funny, but it is frank. I don't really care if this gets on YOUR site or not.

Also, I don't like that I'm going to have to pay to play.

Are you changing the scoring system? Where's Kobe,Iverson and Vince? I'd rank them ahead of Francis and Malone. Also, I don't think a 38 year old Jordan deserves to be in the top 10 highest priced players unless of course your basing the price on popularity.

Janitor: sorry...

BW: scoring system is the same as last year. Kobe comes up short on boards and assists, I think. Ditto for Vince...

Based on Schedule I'll probably only start with Payton and/or Francis, maybe one of the forwards not sure which one yet.

Of that group the most likely to disappoint are Kidd and Walker, Kidd will need to learn to play in a different system, but more importantly he'll have less weapons to use and the other players in the team will have to adapt to him. Walker is a little overrated to be in that elite class.

Malone won't dissapoint but only because less is expected of him than the other 8 (Neither is Walker).

Erik B:

I think that there is not enough information to answer for sure. For example, although these ae the 10 most expensive, there could still be a great difference from #1 to #10. For example Shaq @ $13.5M and walker @ $10.5M is a big difference when we are starting at $50M salary cap.

I'll go one by one

Shaq - best player in the NBA, but with limited resources and many C's that will gare out at OK $$ per million, I'll pass on all high priced C's to begin with. Furthermore, Shaq/LaL play on 1-3-2 to begin the season. Shaq ia also coming off "little toe" surgery.

Garnett- Starts out the seasson 1-3-3. Not too great. A top 5 season out of KG is a no brainer, but I may look esewhere initially to begin the season.

Duncan - Timmy D burned me last year w/ his lsow start. i'm a bit wary this year. 1-4-3-1 is his schedule start. He would have to be moved in week 4. If TSN gives a small bonus for D-D's, I may be tempted, but will pass on him too.

T-mac - I was on him early last year in all my leagues. I believe he will beevn better playing w/ Grant Hill (as opposed to losing stats to him). ORL plas as many games as anyone in the first 7 weeks. T-mac is likely initial buy and long-term hold. I will beinterested to see Hill/Mac play together in the pre-season before I say for sure.

Walker - ( I assume you mean Antoine and not Samaki!!) His streakyness and early season slow schedule eliminate him from consideration. i think you will find he will not be heavily owned until his price drops to $7.5 -$8.0M. That sub 40% shooting percentage is too much to take on a nigtly basis too. Paul Pierce will be the fantasy darlene on this team.

Webber - Good schedule thru first 6 weeks. If he gels w/ Bibby as I expect he will, Webber will be the best STUD forwar to own early on- hands down. Look for him to lead SAC to top 3 record in the west thru the ASB!

Malone- I am not a Malone fan, but you can't deny his fantasy value. What is he 38? 39? I'm gong to pass on Karl just because sooner or later he'll have to break down, won't he? Please don't tell him I said so.

Kidd - New team. Less talented team. It will be the Kidd show, but look for him to get frustrated w/ his teammates and that "coach on the floor" act to wear thin. I could see Kidd scoring more an passing less, which I belive will decrease his fantasy value. I'd persoanlly rather have Marbuty for a few million less.

Payton - Who is playing for SEA these days anyway? SEA has the best scheule for the first 7 weeks, so he gets alot of considration. Depending on how they look in pre-season, GP may just make the cut. I think GP may he the top G for thr first 6-7 weeks.

Francis - Young and getting better. A legit all-star this year. No knocks on FRancis, but I like T-Mac & Payton better.

All things being as I think they will be, Webber and T-mac will probably make the initial roster w/ the rest filled out w/ bargains and mid-priced future stars. I agree w/ some of the above comments that Kobe, Iverson and Vince are better suited to top 10 players than Malone, Walker, and Kidd.
