From the prizes page>

"The single division whose top 10 participants have the highest cumulative points at the conclusion of the game will receive a one (1) year subscription for each division member and the top ten finishers will also each receive a $US 50.00 check in his/her name."

Well, this will be interesting. Assuming an unlimited division size (as stated in game rules), the best chance of winning cash would be in the big divisions. rotoguru.com should be a good bet- with changing divisions allowed only until day of season, choosing a division will be very important!

S-V,

I had thought about this for a while.

I am in:

1) Belly
2) rockafellerskank division limited to 10 gurupies by invitation.
3) Public (tsn_76) which happens to have about 6 out of 20 as Gurupies.

If rotoguru.com gets 100+ teams, I don't see how that top 10 can't be great, but if you look at the sign up thread, not many responses. I belive the pay format will tne that division down. I assume Guru will offer his RotoGuru's Own division which will be tough. However, the Belly is looking good w/ many top names. No reason why there can't be 10 top 100 teams in this division.

Alas, i am ineligible to receive prizes as i livein the fine state of AZ.

What am I missing here? It seems to me that, regardless of division size, the quality of the top ten teams in the division is what's important. What difference does it make if a division has 100 teams, if a division with twenty or thirty teams has more higher ranked teams?

Am I missing something?

VI, I think what Shelby was saying that the bigger the division, the better chance of having more quality teams. Not sure I agree, Shelby ( go Nets ).

VID,
I think he was suggesting that if you have a 2 groups of quality managers, the larger group of managers might have a better chance of fielding 10 high ranking teams. It's the whole huge high school vs. small high school thing. The larger the talent pool, the higher the possibility for successful teams. Or so the thinking goes. That's my interpretation of what he meant...

Where's Ender to talk about Cinderella HS basketball teams when you need him? ;)

I see. Hey Shelby-typical Michigan Wolverine thinking:).

Really-all hair and Ender-thought "Hoosiers" did away with those rationalizations:)

I'm not sure if it directly applies or not, but having just completed tryouts for my 7th grade hoops team, I can tell you the size of the talent pool post definitely affects the quality of the top 10. But I think that's in a random distribution, which we don't have when you're talking about people joinging usesr created divisions. It probably would apply when looking strictly at auto-divisions.

As far as the Cinderella thing goes, unfortunately the point is moot now in Indiana since we went to a 4 class basketball system. By our current logic we should divide all the divisions up into classes based on the number of teams in the division and give separate prizes to each class because we know for SURE that none of the smaller sized division will ever beat the larger divisions. Grrrr.... Don't get me started!

A little "Hoosiers" trivia, the actual Milan team portrayed in the movie actually advance quite far the year before they won it. IIRC they were in the Elite 8.

I just looked it up, Milan was in the Final Four in 1953, and won it all in 1954. I found out that they also made a Final Four appearance in 1912.

LIke I said, don't get me started :)

Very good Ender.
Actually the on the random factor thing. That's why we have sports dynasties in high school sports. The cream of the crop are trained early and long (like Gurupies). Also you have good players actually moving to get in best sports schools. Also private schools seem to dominate. So if this is any indicator groups with the largest number of gurupies would have an advantage. Of course being in the top 10 of 100 gurupies is not an easy task either.
Being a Hoosier I'm going for it!!! ;)
