0 Subject: PSC Hoops Contests - Great Odds!

Posted by: PSCommish - [26724178] Tue, Oct 23, 10:46

Hey all,

I know some of you have already entered, but I wanted to post a message inviting the masses to join one of our 3 Contests at www.pschallenge.com.

The Hoops Contests will be different from last year but the same as Football and Baseball...

We'll have a Free Contest, where you get 5 Free Trades each week. 1st Place overall wins $1,000 in Hoops Loot. And 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each league get prizes.

We have a One-Price Contest. Cash Prizes are based on a per-entry basis with merchandise prizes to boot! It's $35.00 for unlimited trades each week. Active traders like this as they can set a new line-up each week.

Then there's the Progressive Challenge. $1,000 cash + prizes + growing cash "progressive" to the winners! It's $25 bucks to enter and $1.00 of each trade goes to the cash prizes, half to your league, half to overall. So as the competition increases, so do the prizes!

Right now, the odds are sweet in the pay contests! As of this moment, everyone entered would finish in the money!

Gurupies usually fare quite well in our contests, with the GURU himself taking home top honors in the Free Baseball Contest! Nice job Guru! So get yer butt in there and take our money!

Thanks,
Chris Adams

I highly recommend this game, the support is outstanding, and it's fun to win a prize. On second thought, if nobody else joins, my odds are better, right?

Kevin,

Thanks man (the check's in the mail) :-)

Right now we have 16 in the One-Price and only 10 in the Progressive! Being as the top 20 teams in the Progressive win prizes, things are looking good.... well, for you guys! ;-)

I just checked out the game/rules/format.

This game rocks. Players are priced right and there's a ton of strategy.

Highly recommended. 5 *****

It's a noble effort but the interface is beyond
horrible. I'm also having problems creating a
lineup using mac 9 os, ie 5.0.

Pretty much, they've lost a potential customer
because the user interface is so bad.

Hi all, for the sake of full disclosure, I'm the lead developer for PSC. That being said....

(btw, please forgive any spelling errors I may make. Usually the compiler makes a good spell checker)

Shelby, could you drop me an email with the design areas that you didn't like. Also, we are investigating a reported problem with Mac from another customer. It appears on that Mac, cookies aren't being set/read properly. With this customer, they can use the "change team" option to set their lineup, but the confirmation page fails. In the mean time, we are taking their roster manually via email. If this was your problem, we offer you the same service as well.

I would be interested in your critique of our site design, just put it to my attention. I'm also realize that you can't please everyone, but that doesn't mean I can't try ;) Since redesigning a site in not a trivial effort, we might only be able to adjust our current design.

Thanks,
Brian Carlson

Maybe I was being a bit harsh. But I was
frustrated after spending a good amount of
time registering and making a team.. when it
wouldnt recognize the roster changes. A lot of
wasted time.

My biggest complaint is the way picking
players are setup through a menu system.
The page takes a very long time to load
because it has to load every single player in
the NBA to the page. The problem is really
exacerbated when you are trying to pick a utility
player and have to go through 200 players to
find someone...

Lastly, the some player positions seem odd. I
had Stojakovic, Kirilenko as centers...

I hate to so negative- I love the prize structure
and sincerely hope you guys do well.

PSC is a very good site. Unlike other sites these guys respond to questions, try to fix the occasional error, update pretty prompty and in all manners acted with a lot of class in this year's football version which is the first time I tried it. I am back for free and one price basketball. That said the interface takes some getting used too and really isn't too user friendly but I am sure that they will improve it as they get more patronage. Thumbs up for a class operation.

I Dont think anyone ever pays for a trade in the free contest =)

Predrag listed at center is a mistake

Kirlenko - i asked him to be added and after they researched him, they found him to be listed at C during many preseason games...that is the reason he is listed at C in PSC

No trade prices in the 1 price game either. I honestly can't believe more people don't go here. I'm kind of a loner in the fantasy sports world as far as my friends and family are concerned. But I've told as many people as I could find about these guys. Service is great, prizes are great and the user interface isn't bad at all. Loading the players may take awhile for some(I play at work usually on a T1) but I think that is the sole negative!

I hate basketball, but I'm playing the free game here. Trust me If I had a dime more to my name I would play at least 1 of the pay games..

I am going to investigate if I can tweek the code for the roster page to see if I can't get it to download faster. No promises I can.

Shelby, in your experience, what has been the selection method you have like best?

If you're looking for Turkoglu, he's listed as a guard.

When assembling a roster, I always use the Assimilator to work everything out. Then I go to the game site and quickly fill everything in.

PSC Geek:

A rules clarification please (Progressive Game)....

If I understand correctly, once I buy a player for the week, the roster is frozen. For example, if a player on my roster is injured on Friday, I CANNOT buy a new player (for $1.75) until next roster freeze to replace him, correct?

That is correct, assuming I have your scenario correct...let me give you an example....

For the sake of discussion let's define some terms...

Frozen Team : This is the team that is currently scoring points for you. It is valid from Monday's game - Sunday's games.

Current Team : This is the lineup that you would like to take will take affect the next Monday.

Only changes can be made to your current team. In your question, I assume that you mean the player in your frozen team is injured, and yes, you couldn't change him out.

Brian

PS, I'm sure that Chris will jump in an try an transulate this to plain english. ;)

By the way. I have 3 teams registered in the free game, but I only drafted for 2 teams. I don't know if you want to remove the team "saber34c" but let it be known now that no players are on it. (Just in case I win something in this sport that I pay zero attention too)..

OK... getting down to the wire here. Right now we have 25 One-Price teams and 14 Progressives.

saber, we've deleted your last team, so we're all set there.

rfs, I hope Brian's response did the trick for you!

As for the roster page, we know it's a hog and hope to streamiline it a bit. We thought it was a better option than going through and confirming each trade one at a time... although the "new" TSN method is pretty slick. ;-)

I'll keep this thread up right until the deadline, we're also standing by on e-mail too, should any questions arise.

Ok. I couldn't ignore easy money and joined the progressive league at the last minute, even though I don't know danky about hoops. I guess I will learn the hard way... ;)

Didn't think I could draft in under an hour, but wasn't a problem at all! Now I have to go back and reflect on how badly I did and how many things I ignored (like schedule).

I didn't mind the format too much. Did use the assimilator and sartibles for all the heavy lifting, however.

Good luck all!

OK. We're "launched"! Wow! It's only 8:30 and I can think about heading home! ;-) Like butta bay-bee!

Final Numbers of Valid Teams:
Free: 620
One-Price: 25
Progressive: 15

The first few days of stats can be frustrating (both for you and us) so hang tight while we get them squared away. Inevitably, there's issues! :-)

Thanks Everyone and Good Luck!!!!

Just a quick question,. Can you join if live in Canada? I tried to sign up yesterday and there was nowhere to put your postal code or change state to province. If I missed it I'm sorry.

OK. We made it! The first "stab" at stats is up! We'll be checking it against the box scores throughout the day, but if you find anything let us know via e-mail!

Tommy, you can join if you live in Canada (except Quebec). Just fill out your address the best you can and there's a spot in our survey (which comes late in the year) where you can fill it out completely. We're launching a few new free leagues next week for late-comers! (Actually the pay contests are still open too, but you would be placed in an existing league and compete against teams that have already launched.)

FYI, with only 25 teams in the One-Price we put them all into one league for now. We'll meet today to discuss keeping it as one 25 team league (and raising the prizes) or splitting it into to smaller leagues with smaller pro-rated prizes. If anyone has an opinion on this issue, please e-mail us and let us know. So you know, we're leaning towards 2 leagues with more winners of smaller prizes. Ya know... we're all about "spreading the wealth"!? ;-) Chris A.

I'm in the Progressive contest (only 1 league I assume). I'd vote for keeping it 1 league.

Making leagues with this number of teams raises the risk that 1 league is significantly stronger than the other. If you want to spread the wealth, make the prizes go deeper overall?

Either way, thanks for getting input before making a decision!

Just my 2 cents.

I agree with you, KevinL. 13 (competing) folks (2 late entries) is perfect for a division.

I don't think they were contemplating splitting us, though. Good luck... just a touch less luck than me, however. ;)

Argh!

Well I've got 2 teams around the top 20 and I'm actually no.1 overall right now. But the imminent fall from grace is waiting and it's casting a huge shadow.

I had about 30 minutes to make two teams so the rules, aside from the point system, got a very swift once-over and that was that. Here I am sitting now w/ 2 teams extremely front-loaded IE lots of Cavs, Nets, Shamrock players who barely lace up tennis shoes the latter half of the week.

I was thinking the trades could be used at any time througout the week for updates rosters each day, but DoH!

Well again, great game Commish, but I do have that one slight suggestion to make. 5 trades for 'weekly' rosters seems like a lot. Basically no forward planning needs to be made to keep a competitive roster. The majority of NBA teams are playing 4 game weeks, aside from Holiday shortened weeks etcetc...so to give 5 trades per week, gives almost unlimited flexibility and restricting that would be paramount in trying to create a more 'knowledge' friendly game. Or at least one in which a tad bit more foresight needs to be used to keep a competitive team going.

Then again, may be it's better for business if people can just click click click and play, in which case, keep it going! :)!

Hey guys! A few notes...

Brian is looking into adding a logout button. It's easy on some servers that have a certain feature that our host doesn't. There should be a workaround, and that's what he's trying to find out.

You gotta check out the roster selection page! It FLIES now! Kudos to tech-guru Brian! ;-)

There will only be 1 PROGRESSIVE league. It's just the One-Price that may be split.

And WOW! That's the first time EVER anyone suggested we had "too many" trades! :-) The neat part about that comment is our other contests had 6!

So far, we've checked about 100 players against the Guru's trustworthy stats and all is good. We will check some box scores, too.

See y'all! Chris A.
