I noticed at least 6 out of the 15 teams in PSC progressive are Gurupies:

(me) rockafellerskank
coldwater coyotes
The Bandwagon
biliruben
KevinL
discgolfer

(sorry if I missed anyone, feel to join in)

I just thought I'd knock out a post to see if anyone cares to talk trash or exchange comments. Since this game is for money, don't expect anyone to reveal too much.

The Bandwagon: Looks like I'm gonna have to kick your _ _ _ in multiple divisions this year for bypassing me in G.M.D !

2 inactive teams I assume joined after the deadline. I noticed some pretty questionable picks from various teams:

1.Don Reid, OK this was mine.... Doc said he was s'posed to start.
Eddie Robinson
Tyrone Lue
Luc Longley
M. Madsen
Brent Price
Gary Grant

However top 10 teams look good. I'm also happy w/ the fast response of the management team ;)

I'm pretty happy with my first night results, everybody on my team did decent except for Al Harrington, Q Richardson, & Michael Redd.

Strategy? I generally try to draft for the long term, having a well-rounded team. As the season goes on and I find out if I drafted well or poorly, and if I'm competing for a particular spot, I may invest more or less cash in trades.

Good luck to all.

I just joined as a whim. After seeing you two in the league, however, I consider myself a fool. I have never played any hoops fantasy, not particularly followed hoops before the playoffs, and am just coming to grips with having to look at schedule and such.

Any gift tips from the more experienced?

I figure I either won't spend another red cent, in the "not throwing good money after bad" theory, or I will try and balance my cluelessness by spending lots and giving one of you a fatter prize. ;)

biliruben - to some extent, I'm going to react to where I am in the standings and how the other owners spend/save trades. I have a "max" budget in mind for trades and I won't go crazy @ $1.75/each.

1. Since the prices don't change, bargains are bargains .. and over-priced is over-priced. Once the cheapo producers prove themselves, I imagine everyone will gravitate to them and lock them in regardless of schedule.

2. It may become a contest of picking the hotest stud and moving to studs w/ favorable schedules over 2-3 weeks periods at a time.

3. Luck, as in avoid injury. Buying KG for a good week and tying up all that cash nad having him get hurt can cost 150-200 PSC points that cannot be recovered.

4. I'll expect some tips in baseball next year in return. :)

I hate this game of basketball, but I'm proud to say I'm playing in the free game. Course all joy evaporated when I saw the Guru leading my division after day 1. I'm pretty happy with my results so far 13th in that league, 6th in the other.... This should be a good experiment on knowledge of a game and fantasy playing. I'll be running soley on the sartibles and messages posted on this board. Short of Shaq, Koby and that Mikal Jurdain fella I'm b-ball retarded....

basically, If I beat you........you suck.

Hey fellers - it seems like I have seen this somewhere before, but I can't remember the answer -

If you would like to keep a flex guy but would prefer that he now be considered a strict forward, do you have to use an extra trade to do this, or is there a way to this and save the trade?

Thanks!

biliruben, I'm not sure about that. But, if you want an answer, put it in that way and see how many trades is racks up for you. If it racks up too many trades (then you have your answer) just don't accept and go back and re-calculate as needed. In other words after you hit submit, you have to confirm before it's final.

For those playing the Progressive Game:

139 trades were logged for the week @$1.75/each.

Manager(s) w/ most trades used:

Glen_Carbon_Redbirds & Beenpoppers 17 EACH

Manager w/ fewest trades used:

cab31: 0 (he is inactive)
KevinL: 2 trades

Trades used by Leader: coldwatercoyotes3 -3 Trades

I was surprised so many trades burnes since the are not cheap. I am curious if people are correcting bad drafts or if this will be the norm. Considering cab31 never filled out a team, that means 139/14 = 9.92 trades per atcive manager. This is going to get EXPENSIVE to keep pace.

Only one sorry Odom owner in the bunch.

I burned 10, but that was because I drafted in under and hour, and made some mistakes/omissions (forgetting about tinsley, to mention a serious one) I was desperate to correct. Also some injuries (ratliff).

I assume the 38 of the trades were the two late drafts.

I don't plan on making this volume of trades throughout the year, however. How did you know how many trades folks used?

If folks are willing to COMPLETELY redraft their roster every week, even when they are in a strong 2nd, this is going to get expensive.

Thanks for info, rfs.

biliruben-

I just downloaded rosters after week 1 freeze, then downloaded them after week 2 freeze and compared them team by team.

I believe 36 trades came from 2 new teams.

The only thing I can't account for is about 4 trades. I assume that's because some owners bought a player after week 1 freeze and sold him before week 2 freeze, thus getting no points and spending $1.75. I could see this happening if you happened to buy Odom last night (or Ratliff) and had to sell him before dealdine today so as not to get 4 DNP's. Otherwise, we just have trigger happy owners.

I think there are 25 weeks in the NBA reg season. At this rate of 10 trades per pwner per week, the game will cast $462.50 to stay competitive. LOL

So GURU, you going to give any of us a chance to gain on you in the free game. Curious to what moves you made this week. I had to get out of 4 non-players that weren't even getting much floor time (of course Q.Richardson will now with Odom suspended), and traded out of a disappointing LaFrenz.

I dropped to #4 overall today (free game). Part of that may be timing (scheduling), although it looks like there will be some serious competition at the top. Bring it on!

In baseball, I managed to win the free game without really using any paid trades (actually, I did use a few during the last 2 weeks just to nail it down, but until then I only used my free trades. The guy who finished second spent more than $100 on trades!), and I don't expect to use any paid trades for this game either (sorry Chris), barring some very unfortunate injury developments.

It seems to me that the key is to try to lock up as many cheap producers as possible, and not worry about their schedules. There are a number of players who will be on most everyone's roster throughout the year - like Tinsley, for example. Occasionally, injuries or total lack of PT will dictate shifts in cheapie slots, but hopefully not often.

Then, rotate studs for schedule advantage - using your wild card slots for this to the extent possible.

If this is the way the game shakes out, then there may not be a lot of roster differentiation, except during weeks when there are no clear schedule-based picks. If so, it may be tough to make a big move during any given week, especially once rosters have settled in.

I just started playing PSC after being coaxed by Kt(1st) into playing, I'm now in second. I also see that as mentioned above, Guru is in fourth, Wasssup Guy is in 8th, and CC is in 9th. So Gurupies are already dominating the top 10.

I found it tough to even use 5 trades the first time around, so right now I don't think trades will be an issue unless a whole slew of injuries were to happen.

With that being said I'm basically following the same startegy as Guru, I've locked Tinsley, and other good buys and gone after studs with good schedules. Just looking at other teams most have gone with this strategy.

Hey guys! Just wanted to chime in here... The lock 'em in strategy is definitely solid for any pay contest or a contest where trades are limited. In order to afford the "big guns" you need several underpriced guys who perform at least respectibly.

As for the pay cost, you guys are right, it can get costly, especially to correct for mistake picks. In fact, that leads me to the inspiration for the Progressive Concept...

I had been playing CDM Baseball a few years back and was 'fortunate' enough to be in the running for league prizes. They have it set up where you can view league trades... I wasn't the only active trader. There were 8 or 10 of us chasing the decent but fixed league prizes. It ended up costing me $600+ to win $300 or so. Great entertainment to say the least, but... BUT it seems like it cost me more to win a competetive division. So I started crunching numbers and looking for a game "that gave some back" or "spread the wealth". It wasn't out there... and so a concept was born and here we are! ;-)

Well, 4 trades for me this week in the Progressive Game.

The league total is at 190 as of this time. The pace is slowing a bit? Yes?

I'm in 6th YTD, Injuries will KILL you in this game w/ weekly roster freezes! Nowitzski in week 1 and Shareef in week 2. You just can't aford to get DNP's

I figure some of the managers are throwing in the towel already. Maybe thats why the trades are slowing. I figure in 3-5 more weeks, we will be down to 6 active teams.

Well, I had hoped trading would have slowed at this point. I burned 5 this week (and thought about leaving it at 3 but couldn't quite get the money to work out), but a quick glance at those above me shows 8(?), 12 and 13 trades used, and about 90(?) used overall.

Doing a back of the napkin calculation, assuming averaging 7 trades per week, 3rd place about breaks even, ignoring prizes. There is definitely going to be losers in this madness.

Looking at the top 5 ownership for this week:

At center:
everyone owns TMacII,
3 have shaq,
2 have Gasol and Kirilenko,
and the rest are unique.

At forward:
everyone owns Foster and Nazr,
4 own KeThomas and MoPete,
3 own VC, Kmart, VanHorn and DMason.

At guard:
everyone still owns Tinsley,
4 own Barry, Lewis, AWilliams
3 own Tariq, Glover, Kittles

The prizes are likely going to be hoops cards - something worth next to nothing to me. Maybe in baseball 15 years ago. Is everyone else happy with cards? I just can't imagine $1500 worth of hoops cards. What would you do with them? Maybe the bigger prizes will be something else. In any case, it would be nice to have a choice, no?

I suppose you could always sell them (cards) on eBay.

For the record, I haven't used any pay trades yet. The guy in 2nd place only used 5 this week (didn't track him in prior weeks. Does anyone know who he is: "Marbury_2_Marion"?) I didn't check anyone else. But it is possible to complete effectively without using more than 5 trades per week.

Why would folks buy trades in the free game? Are there prizes?

There sure are prizes in the free game. (This ain't TSN, you know!)

First prize overall is $1000 in merchandise (presumably cards). Prize for winning your division is valued at $45.

Hey all! This isn't strategy related, but prize related - since it came up....

We're working on getting some Auto'd Gear in here for Hoops. Like suggested above, it will be primarily for the big prize winners. I don't want to "count chickens before they hatch" but it looks like some Auto'd Kobe Framed photos should be en route and Vince Carter Auto'd jerseys. We're always looking for good stuff and will continue to do so.

One thing we've decided, for future contests, is to list the bigger prizes the winners will get before the season starts. 'Thank you' to those who've made inputs to that effect - Great Idea!

Once we get the loot in, we'll send an e-mail out to everyone. The Auto'd Carter Jerseys will likely be a part of the Progressive and One-Price Prizes. With at least one Kobe Auto reserved for the Free Contest winner.

We know not everyone digs cards, but a shocking 66% of those surveyed do collect. But even still, we'll be adding more stuff to future contests that excite even those non-collectors.

Thanks and Good Luck! Chris A.

Thanks, Chris. The Jerseys would be of more interest to me, though I guess I gotta win something first! With most of my team broken-down sonics at this minute, that is looking less likely. ;)

Regarding your survey - I guess it depends how it is worded; does the 3 boxes of baseball cards from '79-81 in my closet put me in that 66%?
