Hey Fellow Progressive Sports Challenge players

Considering that many fantasy games are turning into pay, PSC still offers a great free game as well as a pay game. I believe there are a lot of gurupies playing this game, so i decided to create a thread to discuss anything on the game. I know theres another thread on PSC, but thats mainly for the PROGRESSIVE Game (Pay per trade). I am currently playing the Free and the One Price Game. I have been doing decent, until this week when i forgot Penny Hardaway. The Current #1 guy in the free game made an excellent pick, Erik Dampier. Would Anyone else like to identify themself in free/one price game? My team name matches my gurupie handle.

KTxGOD

PS - RSF is currently working on a Spreadsheet for the PSC game that pulls up PSC scores. Please thank him when you get the chance, especially considering that he doesn't even play the game. Thanks RSF!

KTxGOD, not having KMart isn't too bad (having Vince Carter kept me from getting him), but having Shaq's big salary is the drawback. Also I could not take a chance on LoWhite not suffering more spasms and looks like GURU thought the same way. So I have StroSwift and Gasol (at center) and almost hope LoWright doesn't get as much PT. If GURU keeps his pace up the contest may be for 2nd (aka Tiger vs field circa 2000).

Played the SMALLWORLD game last year - am still playing the FREE game this year on SportingNews... Picked up PSChallenge as a substitute for the 10 player SMALLWORLD game that I really miss but could not convince myself to buy...

Like the game a bunch - and the one week roster is a great part of the game... GURU is kicking all our butts right now, but an injury one week to one of his big ticket players would bring a bunch of people back in the hunt...

I think PSchallenge would be better if they did some price changes... My theory would be to half adjust player salaries from their current productivity to the average productivity of all players. Take the average pts/$ for the given player for the last week or two, against the same period average pts/$ for all players... Split the difference and set that as the new salary. Cheap guys would stay cheap, but get less so, and over priced players would get cheaper. And player's recent trends would have a big influence on the amount of price movement.

This is my first time playing any type of fantasy basketball and I am having a blast. I started out real slow and after using all my trades on wasted players (injured/not playing) I have moved up to 5th in the division and 199 overall. I think I am finally in a position to make schedule based trades and more tactical trades instead of eliminating stupid picks...this board has been very helpful and since I am a "stat girl" I am having too much fun, even if my competitive nature isn't happy with my position in the league.....You all are great, thanks for all the info!

Looks like coldwater coyotes is gunning to claim the top spot this week. He made 11 trades (in the "free" game).

I just made the free allotment of five trades, and that's all I plan to make each week (barring a total injury meltdown).

Really GURU, I'm not sure I would have played this game if I had known (my own fault) that you could buy extra trades. When I heard about it I considered maybe 'if needed' to buy a couple in the last 2-3 weeks if I had a real chance of winning, but if people are going to start doing it this early it isn't worth paying what might end up $210+ just to be competitive. Why pay for more trades when all that money just goes in their pockets, right? There isn't any more money going into the prizes in the free game, right?

I had to make the investment as you were getting too far ahead. However I believe the game would be better without the ability to buy more than the 5 alloted trades.

I'm down for the 5 trades only. I haven't bought any yet and am doing pretty well, 4th and 14th overall. What about the non gurupies at the top? If they are gonna buy trades and take over the top spot i have no objection to a gurupie buying trades also to stay competetive, but i probably won't buy any because I'm just a poor college student.

Up to you, cc. I think most people in the free game will be managing on 5 trades per week, so it tends to level the playing field. I think it also makes the game much more interesting.

I'm playing both the one price and the free game in football, and I really prefer the trade limit of the free game. I wish the one-price game had a trade limit as well.

I recognize that PSC is trying to make a financial go of this, however, and don't want to do anything that undermines their financial stability.

Just recognize that if you beat me using a material number of paid trades, it's a hollow victory!

I personally cant financially afford to buy a trade, but sicne the game allows a player to do so, i dont really have anything against it. I am using the 5 free given trades... and im slipping big time after that hot first week..... i was like ranked 200 somtin for last week ugh~!

Guru... you just don't like the Pay game in football cause I'm actually beating you....

Of course the opposite can be said of the free game!!!

As for basketball I wish I could talk myself into paying for some trades. Now that I've mastered the sartibles I can see some much better options but 5 trades isn't enough to get me to the optimum lineup.

hey, I forgot to ask...
Was I on the Radar, because that would be very funny.....

My performance is a direct relationship to numbers only research. I scan the sartibles look at production/$ and I get a few names I recognize but thats the extent of my hoops knowledge. The fact that I'm 8th and 10th in my division are truly surprises.

Thank you guru....

I got no problem with people buying extra trades - especially when those of us making only the 5 free trades a week still kick their butt... I'm planning to just keep making the FREE TRADES all year - mostly for the same reason I'm not playing the 10 player TSN game - I'M TOO CHEAP.

KTxGOD - Let me know who you are going to pick up next week so I know what names to look for on the injured reserve list! You are scoring really well considering how injuries your team has hit... Now if only I could get you to send some of your injury selections over to ROTOGURU or HOOPDREAMS (who is leading my division), I might work my way into the thick of things.

I tracked the most recent roster updates for the top 50 teams in the free game. I haven't yet completed the analysis, but here is a quick tally on the number of trades used.

Of the top 50 teams:
2 used no trades (whoops!)
3 used 4 trades
41 used 5 trades
2 used 7 trades (the #2 and #3 ranked teams)
1 used 10 trades (ranked #21)
1 used 11 trades (ranked #39)

The rankings were as of the end of the previous week (12/2).

Tinsley and Kenny Thomas are on all 50 teams this week. The most heavily added player this week was Tracy McGrady, who was on only one team last week, but is now on 40 rosters.

More detail to follow...

Is there something I should know about Posey? Putting up solid numbers with consistent minutes at a reasonable price and 4 games this week... did he catch some unmentionable disease that everyone else has been gossiping about?

Hey Everybody,
I have a question for anyone playing in the PSC free game or who may just know the answer.

I am currently ranked #2 behind the man himself(Guru), but when I go to the the next 10 on the leader board it says I'm #1. Does Guru not count for the official rankings? I hope he does because it wouldn't be the same for someone(possibly myself, but still a long way to go) to finish #2 and win. Thanks for the help. This is my first time posting here, so I hope I didn't break any of the rules. I really enjoy all the insight gained from this forum. Thanks again.

Welcome, Hoopdreamz. Nope, no rules broken! ;)

I am not playing the free game, but in the pay game, my team appears on almost any leader screen; I assume this is for comparison's sake, though the fact that they number you (#1, in your case) does confuse the issue a bit.

Upshot - yeah, Guru counts. Sorry.

Actually Hoopdreamz,

There is a bug in their standings whenever your entry isn't actually there. Examples: I was ranked 12th overall, but if I'm looking at the standings for the top 10, I am listed at the bottom and it shows me 11th, not 12th. If you are on the current page where there isn't an 'extra' listing showing your team at the bottom that is usually correct, otherwise it either adds one or subtracts one from what your real rankings are (points are usually correct).
