Subject: What College Produces the Best NBA Players?

to me there are allot of colleges out there that make there college players into future NBA allstars. so the college that I picked that has made the best NBA players so far is kansas. and here are the players currently in the NBA that have gone to Kansas and have done well in the NBA so far.

Pierce is the only star on that list. LaFrentz is 2nd best, but not near consistent enough to be considered a star IMO.
I think it would be hard to argue against North Carolina looking back over the years.

Well, you seem to have a bit of a focus problem. Are you looking for the highest number current NBA players? Colleges with the highest number of players in the NBA all-time? Colleges most represented by NBA All-Star selections? How about colleges most represented by the NBA's best 50 players of all time?

North Carolina, Arizona, Duke, Georgia Tech, and Kentucky are the top 5. Indiana only has 5 and North Carolina with 14.
List is from opening day rosters last year.

Michael, that is very interesting information.
If I had more time, it would be interesting to see the list of the players, then kind of compare the talent levels of the players. I think Michigan may stand out as one of the stronger ones(3 of the fab 5) I don't know just a thought.

Last year I posted a message with like the top 10 conferences and creating a smallworld team from the Active players in the NBA with there SWP's.
It turned out that the ACC was the top conference.
It was interesting to note that Carolina produced the best Forwards and Arizona the best guards.
I'll try to run this again next year around All Star Break (to give the rookies a chance).

Maryland is good for pro talent. Franchise, Walt Williams, Len Bias would have been good.
But is everybody forgetting Georgetown! Ewing, Mutombo, Mourning, Iverson, Othella Harrington. Name a college w/ 4 big-time stars in the last 17-20 years

Carolina.
Jordan, Worthy, Perkins, Dougherty, Wallace, Stackhouse, Kenny Smith, Carter, Jamison, McInnis--just to name the bigger ones. There are also role players like Montross and Scott Williams out there. So that's eight, if you exclude McInnis and Smith from the "big-time star" label, which I would. Got to be the most in basketball.

I would exclude Dougherty and Perkins from that big-time star label too, neither had a big-time star stretch in the NBA. I think Worthy was a great star, but didn't he go to UNC more than 20 years ago? Jamison was great last year w/ his 25 and 9 average but this year I would hardly say that he was a big-time NBA star.
I wouldn't argue the obvious fact that UNC has produced the best pro's over the years, only whether or not they have produced more NBA stars in the last 17-20 years.

The 1982 UNC Championship team started Jordan, Worthy, and Perkins. Maybe Perkins wasn't a big-time star (he was simply a solid player), but Daugherty definitely was. He was an all-star for several years, and was one of the best centers in the eastern conference before his injuries knocked him out. I can't find any stats after having searched the web, but I think he was an all-star at least three times in the early nineties.

Just basing this on the fact that at the current rate. In 10 years thier won't be any college grads in the NBA.

4 all-stars and those a within the last few years. We had 3 of 50 greatest NBA alltime players with Worthy, MJ , and Cunningham. I don't need to mention the other role players that provide help to teams.

funny that youngbuck mentions kansas as the best. ironically enough, especially with the examples that he gives, they are one of worst as far as big time programs go. youngbuck's list is pretty weak.....scot pollard? ostertag? give me a break. he might as well add scooter barry on the list (he's like the only barry brother not to stick around in the NBA)
UNC is #1 in my opinion in both sheer numbers and the number of impact players.

I'm from Australia and so I attend the NBL (National Basketball League), Australia's pathetic league and guess who has been the star of the show the past 10 years, yep, Andrew Gaze. In fact, I was in a store a couple of days ago and guess who I bumped into, that's right, everyone's favourite white unathletic Australian who played a few half-assed seasons in the NBA. Damn he can knock down the three though. One of the greatest marksmen in the world. A true legend in Australia, I now have an Andrew Gaze autograph - therefor - my life is complete.

Where are you from in Kentucky? I lived in Wilmore, just outside of Lexington, last year. I really enjoyed Kentucky basketball. I was up at the Kentucky Basketball Academy and played a pickup game with Nazr Mohammed, Tayshaun Prince, and a UK grad that plays in Germeny. Rex Chapman was also there. Kentucky is a great place.

I know this is an older thread, but I still gotta support Brad Dougherty:
Brad Daugherty remains the franchise's all-time leading scorer with 10,389 points and career leader in rebounds with 5,227. The 7-0 center, who was the NBA's No. 1 draft selection in 1986, shot 53 percent from the field, enabling him to average 19.0 ppg from 1986 to 1994. A five-time All-Star selection, Daugherty was an All-NBA Third Team selection in 1991-92.
