Gang:

I just wanted to thank you for the great feedback and general goodwill evidenced here during our NBA season. It was my first game out the door since I came to TSN, and your help in making it better was invaluable to me. As always, if you have comments/suggestions, feel free to email me (ebarmack@sportingnews.com) or post them here.

And thanks again for playing this year,

-Erik

Thanks Erik! I had a great time this season, can't wait 'til next year.

For those of us who won subscriptions, when do they start?

Thanks for the info.

Eric,
I for one have to say that this years experience has been the best so far.
It's been great to be able to login and actually get your trades done on time. I realize you had a few glitches now and then, but you were forthright in letting everyone know about them and went the extra-mile and extended the freeze.
It's definetly been worth my $20.00 to play.
I realize from looking at the baseball game that basketball prices will go up. Here's to hoping that they don't go up much higher than the baseball game.
Now if you'd only have an email your trades option (shoot I'd pay an extra $5.00 for it), my life would be complete.

Prices for baseball are very close to where we need to be long-term. I don't think you'll be surprised by major hikes in the fall.

Email your trades option? What do you mean by that?

Eric, you guys did a great job this season. I had a great time playing. I hope next season you will spread out the cash prizes. I think it's a shame that blackjackis21 didn't win a dime.

Guru why do you do this, I didnt bash that flying guy, I just stated why I think that smallworld has started to suck and thats it, I didnt bash anybody. There is such a thing called, "Freedom of speech" (dont just delete it if you dont agree with it.

You're in a private forum, not a government one. Your freedom of speech only extends as far as the forum proprietor and his designated moderators allow it.

You made your point repeatedly earlier. We get it. Erik and Bernie get it. You don't like the game. At this point you are posting to a group of people who played out the season. We must have liked it or we wouldn't even be checking the forum. You are the exception at this point and are beating a decaying and rigored horse.

Well ender, if saying it once or twice is repeating over and over again then I'm sorry (I played the season to the end too) I dont appreciate ppl calling me an idiot b/c I dont like the direction that smallworld is heading and I dont feel that I'm the only exception (for instance IBTM) basically I dont like whenever Guru deltes my interesting posts b/c he doesnt agree with it. I like this forum but not when Guru is being biased and doesnt let other ppl speak their mind (all you gurupatrons or w/e, go other and defend your master)

back to the topic..., I'd like to see next year's prices start where this year ended. I think that would create a decent pool of low and mid-priced players to kick things off.

Thanks to everyone that shared the basic strategies here -- without them I think I would have floundered.

I never thought this would payoff, but do you see a patron tag under my handle?

If you weren't the guy ranting about this at the beginning of the season, forgive my incorrect accusation. I was pretty sure that you let your feelings on this be known repeatedly early.

I do think you would get more of an audience if you actually posted and opinion and backed it up with some logic. When you basically say everything sucks (every other word basically, and spelled incorrectly to boot, slang won't get you very far) people won't listen to you. I get enough of the "everything sucks" mentality everyday at school.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand.

I would like to see 3 G, 3 F, 2C and 2 G/F spots. I think this would create more variety in strategy and roster makeup. I think things were much better this year as far as roster gridlock is concerned, but there were still certain players you felt obligated to keep (Gasol and Kurt Thomas for example). That's not bad in and of itself and would remain even with my proposal. But by allowing the 2 flex spots would create 3 different strategies 5G/3F, 4G/4F, 3G/5F. When Duncan's sched dries up, wouldn't you like to be able to turn him into Payton?

I don't know how feasible this is, but how about and "undo last trade" button for some mathematically challenged people or people who sell the wrong player by accident. Obviously you can only undo the trade before the deadline. After, you have to suckzz it up.

For mathmatically inclined, or people who make their trades after a couple pints. ;) The undo button can also be called the "too many pints" button

Michael:

I think your idea is a really good one. It's something I've been thinking about for a while. I'm going to try to get this into our football build this fall.

Ender:

I like the swing player idea. It would force us to change our system architecture a bit, but it's definitely something we've considered.

Gang:

Thanks, again, for the feedback. We felt like it was our best hoops game to date, and are glad that you had fun.

I realize there would be some inherent difficulties. I think the simplest solution would be if I sell a guy in a flex spot, the guy I purchase must go in the flex spot, rather than reshuffling the makeup of my roster. Of course it would be nice to be able to shuffle things as long as my lineup fit the requirements. Perhaps you could prompt for a player to be bumped each time a flex player. For example you could bring up a pulldown menu of the owners current 3 G, 3F and a selection for new player:

Guard A
Guard B
Guard C
Forward A
Forward B
Forward C
New Player

The appropriate adjustment could be made, then the next purchased player would be designated to the new open slot (either the flex slot, or the former guard or forward slot).

Obviously this is what you meant by a change in architecture, but I thought I would propose a system that might make it possible.

Or make it an open architecture that checks everytime you buy a player.
If you're buying a guard or forward it checks if you already have 5, if you're buying a center it checks for 2 on your roster. If yes it prompts a message and you have to start over, if not the player is added to your roster.

The Sporting News subs:

We're checking on that now. Because we don't actually send the magazines out from our office here, it's hard to speculate. However, we're contacting the people who fulfill the subs in the magazine dept. and asking them for some sort of timeframe that winners can expect.

Once we get this information, we'll pass it along to you. I would expect a post on this by Monday. If it comes to us sooner, we'll be more than happy to share it.

I would like to see a set time each night when the stats are updated. The East Coast managers have a clear advantage over us late rising West Coasters.
Its tedious doing the math late night trying to figure out what guys in the division got for the night. Then reacting to that.

thanks

stats are usually updated around 2 am EST, so that would only be 11pm on the west coast.

I have seen them updated anywhere between 11pm PST and as late as 2am PST. It would just help if we knew the exact time so I could plan accordingly.

TSN Subscriptions:

Magazine subscriptions for game winners should generally take 4-6 weeks from the time we submit the list. Naturally, we'll submit the list as soon as we can in order to get the process started sooner. We'll also do our best to see if we can cut that time down a little.

Hope this helps.
