Read a story about this last week Dave, though this one is very well-written and has some additional details. Truly amazing.

My son and I saw this on a local Monday-Night Football wrap-up sports show the other night. The clip of him scoring, and then the quick soundbite with him afterwards, thinking they'd won because all his teammates were so excited for him, was something to see.

to me, what interests me the most, is Mark Madden's response. the guy has made a career of being a complete ass, and even ruined a fairly decent-paying "side" gig as a pro wrestling announcer because of his selfish, moronic ways.
peace, Tree will squeeze wrestling references in whenever possible...

I agree with Tree though...Mark Madden. What an a$$hole (I can't believe I'am not allowed to say that...I think we should make an exeption for this guy!). Have some compassion, dear lord!

My friend sent this e-mail to CNNSI for Mark Madden:
Comments: This is in response to that Donkey, Mark Madden's , comments about Jake Porter. Since I cannot locate his e-mail address ( interesting, bet he had to hide it with all the hate mail flowing in) I ask you to forward this to him. Thanks.
Madden, you're a Donkey, flat out. You look like a Donkey, you talk like a donkey and you obviously know nothing; That's why you're from a 3rd rate sports town. Your comments about Jake Porter were not only distasteful, they were absolutely wrong. What is wrong with making a handicapped Kid's day by treating him like the human being he is. " Leave High School football alone, don't put the fix in"? what, did you have money on the game, you weasel? Get a life and get a real job, you Donkey. I know it must be hell living in Pittsburgh, but don't rip those coaches for actually having a heart. You Donkey.
LoL...I thought it was classic!

Youngbuck, your ability to continually make yourself look like an ass is an amazing saga on these boards. There are few threads in which you participate in which you aren't acting like an ass, taking offense that people are calling you an ass, or (like this one) both.

that is an amazing story. You can just see how one little kind act can make such a difference in the lives of others. Nice post.
and youngbuck, what do you gain from such a comment? If you really feel that story is stupid, I think you need to start thinking past yourself, and see the real world around you. Learn to be more compassionate, and put yourself in the shoes of others. I'm sure when people gang up on you and insult you, you don't feel good. If people began to be more patient with you, and instead of insulting you, tried to tolerate some of the things you say as long as you tried to hold most of it in, I'm sure you would appreciate that. Although you do deserve the retaliations of others when you post rude comments, it is sometimes nice to see when others are compassionate. Just like this story, yeah, he may not deserve to be on the field from a purely athletic stand-point, but there things more important than just sports. I think people here at rotoguru tried to be patient with you, gave yo second chances, but sometimes, people just don't have the patience to deal with rude comments all the time. Saying things that insult people just for amusment, and a cheap laugh just isn't funny in most people's eyes. At some point, people grow out of it, and sometimes, you just need to step back and realize this yourself. Be the bigger man, and don't bite back at the insults of others. Just apologize for your past mistakes and move on.

NBC's Today show interviewed Jake, his mom, & Coach Frantz this morning. They showed video of the touchdown run. It really was something special seeing the opposing team & the referees encouraging Jake to score. The crowd cheering was awesome too.
Couldn't agree with Vinsanity more. IMO, if I never saw another post from youngbuck, it'd be too soon.

I agree with ksoze. It's at the point where we are falling for that garbage all the time. He just wants more threads derailed to a gripe session about him. His name is probably mentioned more often than the word "basketball" at this point. Just ignore him and stay on topic.

"he may not deserve to be on the field from a purely athletic stand-point, but there things more important than just sports."- vinsanity
Great point vinsanity. Athletic talent is far from the most important thing in HS sports. HS sports don't provide paychecks and a means of living. HS sports are there to build characters, make young men and women into better people, and provide kids a place to get away from books and enjoy life. Jake Porter is doing just that.

Its a great point that there are different needs for different people.
Jake needed to be lifted up from his knees.
Mark Madden needs to be brought to his knees.
And Youngbuck needs to be put over someones knee.

It's sad to me that almost 1/3 of the total posts on the thread are now about YOUNGBUCK, including mine. I agree with kzose and Ender, let's ignore his pleas for attention.:(
What impressed me most about this story when I saw it on TV was the reactions of Jake's teammates and the opposing players. It's their positive and genuine reactions as teenagers, most of whom are probably "Big Men on Campus" at their school, that make this story even more special.:)

So why not just ignore him?
Start a thread entitled "The Great Youngbuck Ignoration of 2002" and have it read thus:
----------------------- In response to Youngbuck's posting history, please be sure to follow these two simple steps every time you post:
1. Do not use the word "Youngbuck" in any thread, ever. 2. If Youngbuck ever posts, ignore it completely. Pretend the post was blank.
Do this for a week, and he'll go away.

reading *about* this story was one thing. reading the story was another. but actually seeing the video is what really brought this home to me.
sure, it's kinda like most other high school football tapes - grainy footage shot from the stands with a handheld, but man, when he crossed into the endzone, you could absolutely feel the sheer joy radiating off of him as he celebrating.
i always liked celebrations in football - from the California Quake to the Sack Dance to the Icky Shuffle, and everything in-between, and i hated when the NFL always seemed to clamp down on them.
lately though, i've really grown tired of the celebrations. a receiver makes a good catch on a 12-yard out pattern, and then spikes the ball. a special teams player makes a nice hit on the punt returner, then gets in the returners face and gives him a wagging finger. a cornerback slaps the ball away from a receiver, and then spends the next 45 seconds dancing like he wants to be in Christina Aguilara's new video "i'm a dirty whore, but at least i admit it."
these guys celebrate like it's going out of style for every little play they make, when they're just doing their jobs.
Sure, everyone once in a while i'll make a big sale at the office, and i'll hop on my desk and give a little Butter Churn or Smurf action, but not for the mundane. not for doing my job every day.
that's what made this video so special for me. it was someone celebrating, in absolute and genuine fashion. thanks for sharing it.
Tree sorry about the length of this post, and me taking you on a journey to my own personal wussland...

Tree, its sounds like you've never actually played any sports. Although the wanton celebration gets old to you, they're not doing it for YOU! The celebration is their way of getting into their jobs and pumping up their teammates. Besides, a 12 yard completion means another set of downs, a ball slapped away on third down does have significance, and we know the effect a sack can have. As for doing their jobs, everyday they pratice. So game day does have significant meaning for them. Its not like they're doing the "dirty" dance in pratice everyday. if you consider the number of times the corner gets to slap the ball away in a game, the event then becomes scarce and means something to THEM. Since excessive celebrations are already controlled by the league, why call for constraint? Sports are entertainment. If some aspect ceases to entertain you, you have the right to "change the channel".
Peace, TF

TF - actually i did play sports - for a long time...and it's perhaps the one sport which makes football's celebrations tame.
i played soccer for close to 16 years, before i decided working out every day in college was a whole lot less fun than drinking lots of beer, eatting tons of captain crunch peanut butter cereal with chocolate milk, and sitting around getting fat.
celebrations are without a doubt an important part of the game. after scoring a touchdown, or making a game-changing hit, by all means, dance the night away. i firmly believe in that.
but watch an NFL game today. it seems nearly every player who makes any tackle feels the need to do his J-Lo Flygirl impersonation.
it's a tackle dude. everytime i took the ball away from someone in soccer, did i kick up my heels and do a two-step? nope, because i was doing my job.
all i'm saying, is that there's no need to celebrate for doing your job. when you make a game-altering play, then that's cause for celebration. when you tackle the Wide Receiver after a 12-yard-gain, don't dance.
peace, Tree go watch some old tapes with Bill Bates. that dude made more important tackles than anyone i can remember in the 80s and 90s, and i dont think he ever danced.
