0 Subject: IPO Opportunities for TSN

Posted by: Guru

There are currently 17 players who have appeared in at least one NBA game this year that are not eligible in the TSN game. Here's the list (sorted by total TSNP):

Hawkins, Juaquin
Harrington, Lorinza
Batiste, Mike
Parker, Smush
Evans, Reggie
Pargo, Jannero
Savovic, Predrag
Rakocevic, Igor
Brown, Devin
Trybanski, Cezary
Bremer, J.R.
Johnson, Ken
Rentzias, Efthimios
Rucker, Guy
Harrington, Adam
Wolkowyski, Ruben
Goldwire, Anthony

Admittedly, most of these guys are not of any value, even if priced at the minimum. Still, I don't understand why they should not be added to the game. Any of them could become valuable at some point if they develop, or if related injuries improve their playing time.

Many fantasy sports games routinely add new players as they appear in games. I believe TSN should do the same, either immediately after a player first appears, or at least once per week. The current practice of adding players on an ad hoc basis - and usually unannounced - is an unnecessary irritation, and could easily be rectified.

By the way, this is not the first season (or sport) in which this issue has been raised. I wonder why it has never been satisfactorily addressed? It seems like it should be so simple to resolve.

Yeah! Guru is taking up my cause. I don't know why but this issue has really raised my blood pressure couple weeks.

I am afraid to make lots of posts about it for fear every player will be IPO'ed at 2 million now.

Burke's price soared because of so many requests.

Yeah, it would be a lot better in hoops if they were all IPO'd at 500K once the season started. Who is going to buy Burke at $2 mil.? THis is much different than baseball. When the players get "called up" from the CBA, like Goldwire, why shouldn't they be at the minimum where they may be playable.

The $2,000K IPO of Burke was an absolute joke, as is the inevitable over-priced IPO of Hawkins.

It's tough when you think you've found the next
cheapie and he hasn't been IPO'd.
I know within the last 2 weeks I've looked for
Hawkins and Batiste and I didn't even think that
Smush hadn't been out there already.

Why was Burke's IPO of 2 million a joke?

Because he should've been available at the beginning of the season for 500K.

Maybe he should have been available at the start of the season (at a very low price), but his IPO price nearly a month into the season is not way off base. TSN uses a fairly simple formula to calculate a player's price. For those that played last season, it is a tiered pricing scheme based on TSNP/g. It appears it also takes into account total points that determines which tier a player is placed in. For example: those players that averaged say over 25 TSNP/g last year and played 60 or more games, the pricing ratio was 4.4 (divide last year's TSNP/g by that number to obtain initial price). As the TSNP average drops, then the price ratio gets bigger. As you get closer to 20 TSNP/g the ratio is around 5 and so on. *Note these are just approximations and Guru or others can give more concrete numbers.

Pat Burke was averaging 12.7 TSNP/g when he was IPO'd. For that average, the pricing ratio was around 6. Thus 12.7 divided by 6 comes out to be 2.12. He was IPO'd at 2.00, so it looks like it was a fair price based on their system. It will be more than a month though before his price will garner much attention.

could you please add Toronto's Nate Huffman as a C/F... not so many big guys in Toronto, and once he is healthy - he may contribute some TSNPs

thanks

While we're on the topic (and because the Hockey board usually doesn't get looked at), the TSN Hockey games are missing some players (with season TSNP):

Evgeny Konstantinov : -11
Cameron Mann : -10
Mike Cammalleri : 102
Brantt Myhres : 93
Ramzi Abid : 2
Frank Banham : 12
Mark Greig : 45
Darren Haydar : 0
Shaone Morrisonn : 24
Ryan Miller : 6
Lee Goren : 41
Ryan Kraft : 35
Kyle Wanvig : 0

P.S. - It's probably safe to take down the "IMPORTANT NOTE FOR 11/22/02" And please double-check your notices. I don't think the "prize update" was "postponned."

The IPO's should be on a regular basis,is not this the Ultimate game. I wonder if once the game gets started and the money is in it becomes low maintenance saving labor costs.

Really Joe Smith is still out with injury. Doesn't seem anyone is doing daily interaction with the game other than absolutely necessary.

Erik and Bernie have always gotten high marks on these boards because they have consistently provided reasonably prompt feedback to issues like this, even if they couldn't fix the problem right away. Can't say that this time. Other than a long-in-coming post saying Pat Burke would be IPO'd a while back, the TSN boys have been completely unresponsive on this issue - even worse than their non-committal response to the multi-position issue we'd been harping on for a while.

Well, the "IMPORTANT NOTE FOR 11/22/02" was taken off the Hockey games, so it's likely that someone at TSN is reading this. Not sure why there wouldn't be a response.

cool!

but Erik - wait! what about the other point being made here? a standardization of when IPOs will be added.

seems to me that waiting until people are clamoring for it is too late. there should not be the clamor.

thanks,
peace,

Marko Jaric now the starting SF for the Clipp.

If anyone from TSN is out there! Please keep an eye on him! He should get F status within the next couple games I believe. :)
