0 Subject: Is this anyone else's worst year in TSN history?

Posted by: culdeus

Frankly, I'm stunned at how bad I am doing this year. I've never been great but I typically hang around 200-300 then fade towards march a few hundred spots due to apathy.

This year I have the most pathetic RV I can imagine and have been chasing players left and right. Taking Duncan (and holding him) in favor of Kobe early and then avoiding Bradley for a week and a half are my two biggest blunders.

Am I alone or is this year a little harder for the casually addicted TSNer?

you are most certainly not alone. I have a perpetual headache this year, and it is eating into my real job even more. drugs and alcohol might be a better alternative.

I suck, I am only consoled by a top 80 football team.

Not only am I sucking, but the only team of mine that I want to do well (in a division with friends) is my worst. And when I say worst, I mean bad like waking up in a bathtub full of ice in Thailand to discover I lack a kidney.

I will now light myself on fire.

I'm getting screwed this year too, it's not just you. Every move I make makes pefect sense until the next day, when someone else gets injured or they suddenly lose 20 minutes of playing time unexpectedly. This is especially a shame because I spend an average of eight hours per trade probably. It's a disease.

I believe the competition this year is tougher, all my teams are below par considering last year, or maybe I just overachieved last year and I'm back to normal.

Anyways I'm looking at it as a challenge.

I really don't know what it is with me. J and I had pretty similar teams on the day later thing, so that's why both of us are so down right now. I guess I lose interest in the hoops game a little easier than the other TSN games. Not sure, I just seem to be having more fun playing hockey at this time.

I can't expect some of the vets to fall backward, but I can see the weekly traders falling back a bit in a few months, we'll see.

Myself, this Senator and SW are getting the shaft this year. Like the Urine said, every move makes perfect sense until it actually plays out. From Bonzi, Tmac, Penny, Baron and R. Davis to a whole host of others. I've seen people post about how they were around 800wwr at this point in year's past and have finished top 50. This seems to be unlikely this year. I've been wretched so far, wretched, so it's all about the division at this point forward

I feel like I can do a Urine-like rise with the RV in the last month or so. With the trickle and leaking effect being strong this year...the trades in saving the RV are so huge. You're never gonna see me with 0 trades this year, you can bet on that. :)

Fews things i ran into a few times this year:
1. Don't you hate it when you are short 0.1mil to buy an awesome combo of two players and instead you have to settle for someone like gordan gircek.
2. Don't you hate it when you miss the train for a player and player gets 60swp the next day?
3. Don't you hate it when you finally buy that player everyone has and he gets 5swp the next day.
4. Don't you hate when no matter how much you think, you'll never make the correct trades.
There could be more. I dunno if you guys ran into the same situation.

For some reason this year I certainly can't get into hoops. Just doesn't seem to excite me. So haven't really been putting a lot of effort into my teams, this may kill me in the end. But for some reason, right now I think I'm doing fairly decent, just not enjoying it. So my advice, don't let it get to you, put less effort into your teams and maybe things will turn around? Okay, I'll admit that likely won't work.

I just joined the free game in hopes to finally learn TSN and everything, since everyone has told me i'm the only one on GURU that doesn't do it. So i'm trying to learn it now so I can do it in the future. And I had crap happen to me in two days! I joined monday night after the games started and picked up Tony Battie, only to have him get suspended his next game. And also picked up Grant Hill, only to have him sit out last night and be a waste of space for me. So i'm just waiting for 2 of my three people going tonight to get injured, or sit out.

I'm feeling the same way as Dan. I haven't been feeling it as much this year. I think it's a combination of things, such as making bonehead moves, having crappy WWRs, and school all compounding, one on top of the other. I haven't been putting a lot of time into long-term planning too, and that definitely hurts. I know last year I would sit down and plan out moves for the next 2-3 weeks, and now I'm lucky to get any decent trading done at all.

And damnit, I hope Dirk plays and drops 70 tonight. I held him since I plan on going to Ming, and he could maybe play tonight (read: Dirk is going to DNP tonight). And also, I hope Miles comes in and completely screws up the Cavaliers current system when he gets back.

Ahh, that feels better.

The return of miles will only affect carlos boozer's pt. davis, wagner and bigZ wont be affected, i think. miles is set to return on sat. as for the numbers, the stats show that davis and big Z perform just as well with miles in the lineup.

Dan and Rage, should try Yahoo or other Rotisserie if the fun isn't there for TSN.

I'm doing a couple of Yahoo leagues, 1 roto (Political Gurupies league) and 1 with a TSN scoring system. I'm thashing the TSN league by a good 900 points, and I had a dumb draft in the roto league. I'm going to have to try to get some trade action going on my roto league so that I have a shot. Anyway, I figure I'll get the desire back sometime for TSN, hopefully.

Re: 14, I don't know that you can conclusively say that Miles won't affect Wagner. The two haven't even played together yet. Plus throw in how well Boozer has played lately, and I think they're going to have some issues as soon as Miles is back in.

Mike D. Yeah I do play Yahoo, have 2 hoop teams, and aside from both teams sucking it up, I'm still enjoying that more than TSN, which is odd, hopefully I'll get my drive back! :)

i'm sucking this year as well... my top team is in the 500s and the others are 700s and 1200s

living in taiwan is taking a toll on watching games and seeing the style of certain players... basically i have to look at raw data when making moves, can't use the gut enuf

I agree. This year I have had so much pressure with school, football, basketball and it is just a snowball effect. I have just had more important things to worry about this year. I haven't been as "into" it this year as I was last year. Last year I followed the games religiously! I followed all the trains and got a HUGE TRV to begin. I was gaining $$$ like crazy because I knew what was going on. This year...I have been sitting on my trades and not really paying attention. All of my teams are sitting around 500 WWR +/-. My plan is just to win my divisions, but I sure don't have much interest right now.

the bad news this year is that i only bought one team. The good news is i only bought one team. That sound you hear--the giant sucking sound--that's me. Nose plugs, please.

My SW teams suck so bad, I really couldn't even give you a ballpark guess of what their WWRs are. Daum!

I am in the Gurupie-20 Yahoo league and absolutely love the style. Constantly looking at how you can tweak your roster (and then trying to get the other half of the trade proposition to see it your way, or meeting middle ground.) I think I will be moving on only to this style from now on. Gotta get in one of these Mike D leagues, so I can see the real trade master in full effect!

I found my % of my position has dropped over last year, but most of that is there are less players. Im still hovering around 300-500 WWR, last year finished around 330's, not too happy because i was hoping to imrpove over last year. Also, like dan, it just hasnt been as fun as before.

I hereby make a motion that the rest of the NBA season be cancelled, thus all TSN points as of today be totaled and the winner be praised. :~)
It’s only fitting that the year that I begin off well, I get called out of the country for the rest of the month. I have a 6:00am flight out this morning. Internet access is certainly no guarantee. Oh, well… maybe I can finally save up some trades. hasta luego

No way! If you find out that you definitely don't have Internet access and want someone to take care of your teams, let me know. If you don't want to trust me, I'm sure there are other folks who would be willing to help too. Seriously. BTW - Congrats on taking first!

I think I'm going to become a money whore for the next few weeks and just copy all the big moves to play catch-up. If things don't pan out I'll probably give up and end up with a high percentile scar on my user id forever.

Thanks for the offer blackjackis21...I would certainly have no problem trusting you and I now wish I had given more thought to it before I left.
I ended up having access, but would have had to take a 45 min boat ride followed by a 20 min taxi each way. So...I just decided to let the team ride.
I'm home for a day before I head back out, but this time to Montreal...no problem there.
But I just wanted to say thanks for the offer.

I did better last year as well, but I think this year is more fun a little because my division is tighter. I won last year's division by a landslide. This year I am in TSN_1, which I think a few people left because they thought the competition would be really stiff...I am currently in second, but the top 6 are all within 250-300 range. I think I will win, because I had a really bad start and I am doing a lot better now, and because some other people are making some really bad trades in my division...About a month ago I was in 10th and down by about 600 points...Now I have led the division a few different times...I hope to start to pull away around the new year...

KYCAT - no problem. While you maybe took a little hit $RV wise, you're most likely better off with the extra trades at this point. Obviously points wise you didn't take too much of a beating. Anyways - again, no problem and good luck.
