Subject: How do TSN Price Changes work?

I assume daily price changes are not merely volume based, since I have never seen anybody fluctuate much more then the normal 140k. Especially since fluctuations on Wednesday (when people can first use their free trades) are no greater then any other day. I wonder if they're based on the percentage of daily trades? If anybody knows, could they help this newbie out? Thanks. PS - What does the T in TSN stand for? I assume SN is Sporting News. |

Actually, every day someone at TSN (THE Sporting News) takes special, laminated cards, each of which has the name and picture of a different TSN listed player to the top of a very tall staircase. Each step in the staircase has been given a preordained value. For example, the second step from the bottom is usually worth +40,000 TSN dollars. The cards are then simultaneously flung from the top of the stairs, down the stair well. The cards are collected, with notations made regarding upon which step each card landed. The TSN players are then assigned a price change for that day corresponding with the value for the step upon which their card landed. I think that's right.

Since you guys are feeling charitable toward rookies today, I also have a question. Can you tell if someone else in your free division is buying trades? Another team and mine are just about tied for the lead going into these last few weeks. I don't want to resort to buying trades unless my competitor is. I think cheapens the competition. But Howard's going to a funeral tomorrow! I also joined the free trade only league in season 2. It would seem that a league that evolved from this site would not need to be monitored, I was just wondering if it was possible. Thanks

Hammer I feel your pain. A week ago I overtook the guy who had been in first place for two months, and he bought two trades on each of the next 3 days to stop my comeback. It's really frusterating, but I guess there's nothing I can do about it. I emailed the rest of the division, but all anyone can do is call him names, and watch him win. If anybody from TSN reads this, I'll pay you $10 to put a negative sign in front of his score.

How could you tell he was buying trades? Were you monitoring the roster or is there a magic button :)

So as to not start a useless thread (and then get ridiculed for it) where is the page where you can join the season two basic NET free game?

Why don't you use the $10 to buy some trades? ;)
As far as the price changes go, you're right they are based on percentage of trade volume. If 100 people buy Player A today and there are 1000 total trades the change would be different than 100 people buying him tomorrow with 2000 total trades. The reason they are rarely over 140K is there is a ceiling. We suspect it is based on a logorithmic scale, but no one has reverse engineered the formula completely as far as I know. In the olden days changes would be much more extreme and owners would often have ~$75 mill at the ASB (or more). The ceiling has made the game much more competitve and interesting over the course of the whole season because you are forced to manage your whole roster from start to finish. You never reach a point where you can just lock a 10 stud lineup and forget about it.

Here is a thread that provides more background on the repricing formula:

Hammer, I monitered his roster; I don't think there is any other way to find out. And I don't want to get in a spending war trying to beat him... I was hoping for a game that would be based somewhat on skill. Ender, thanks for the info.

Actually, in the basic game, couldn't you create a new User-Created division and have all the people who want to play NET style into it? I didn't think the basic game froze divisions.

I suppose I could create a new division, but this division was already supposed to be NET.

The free game is just not FUN anymore. I am not playing it anymore. Not worth the time. Best bet is to pay for a Ultimate team and be on a level playing field.
Leave the free game alone and if 500,000 of us do that then maybe they will change it back to the way it was last year...FUN! But people have to make a stand together in order to get them to do this.

Yeah, it seems like in order to have a chance in the free game, you actually have to spend more then the ultimate game. Pretty lame.
