Yesterday European championship finished, which results are also olympics qualifications.
The 3 teams are Lithuania (who won), Spain and Italy.
As italian I'm really proud of my team, because they played an epic tournament.

The less talented national team since I follow basket (about 20 year) has been able to beat Dirk Nowitzki and Germany, to beat Greece, to lost by Pau Gasol and Spain only at last shot and finally to beat France, who destroyed us by 33 points just 1 week earlyer in the 1st stage of the competition.

The last match has been really unbelievable.
Fisically it's really like a Nba team (France, almost all black guys from colonies and have 4 Nba players) against a college team (and as you know zero Nba players)

Our best players now (Fucxka, Myers) retired from national teams, so we have a bunch of mediocre players, who really player over their heads for all the tournament.
Attention: I don't mean they made lucky shots or in a euphoric state, but playing with unbelievable heart and bravery, with perfect knowledge of the game, always doing the best thing to do, a fantastic organized defense, with minutes with enourmous difficulties on scoring and traling most of matches (the talent is really limited)

The post is already too long so I cut short to last match. A few minutes from start our point guard, who's also our best player, Bulleri, get injured. He'll spent the entire first half in the gym and played the 2nd half really slowed by the injury.
We started with Lamma, a coach DNP in previous 2 matches. After 1st quarter Basile, a Pg/SG, our 2nd best player, get injured too. He'll be back only in last qt.
It's not over yet: at the half of 2nd quarter, Lamma, who has been so far the Mvp of the match, get injured. We played some minutes with our 3 pG ALL injured in the same match!

Well, 1 day after, I still can't realized how we won against France. And we won dominating 1st half and trailed for the first time in the last 2 minutes of the game.

We was 2 in Olympic in Moscow (1980), or european champs just in 1999, but the scenario was completely different. We had talented players and there weren't great Nba players like Nowitzki, Gasol, Parker in others team. This bronze, and (more important) olympics qualification has more value. It's the best result (at least the more exciting) in our basket.

Bulleri, Basile, Soragna, Galanda, Marconato, Chiacig, Righetti, Radulovic, Mian, Lamma, Da Pol, Cittadini and coach Recalacati: Thanks guys, you have been amazing

I forgot to say that I'm sorry for my mate JCS, but win against France is a bigger satisfaction, because our rivalry is always high.
And yesterday we beat France also in volleyball, for european gold medal.

Au revoir, galletti! :)

That french hoops national team was the biggest disappointment in sports here since the last World Cup debacle in football. We had an amazing team, really : one NBA champ, 2 NBA veterans, one NBA rookie, one college stud and a bunch of experienced european-level veterans... Only Serbia could compete with us talent-wise. And we lose in the final minute to Lithuania, and lose again on the last possession against an italian team we destroyed 10 days ago...

Now I only hope the blow won't be so hard it could destroy the unity this team had coming into the tournament. We have a very fine generation of players coming in, add Mickael Pietrus, Paccellis Morlende and a few others to the current team and let them mature 2-3 years and it could be a european powerhouse for years.

Congratulations to Lithuania, the best team in the tournament while having no NBA-caliber players, and to Italia which had an amazing turnaround during the tournament. This tournament also leads me to believe Kirilenko could be huge next year, if Jerry Sloan decides to give him playing time.

Soooo... when does hoops start again? It feels like it's been forever since the end of last season. I travelled a lot this summer, now I'm ready for a new season of Ultimate Hoops. EuroGurupies face the challenge of becoming the first back-to-back divisional champs ever, that's exciting. I took a quick look at the schedule and already have a few players in mind for my initial draft, even a few possible moves for the first 10 days! I hope the prices are released soon.

I thanks clach.
In Athens Italy was more amazing, unbelievable, fantastic.
We improved a lot since the incredible experience in the last european reason, and the mai nreason was, of course, the fact coach Recalcati this time include me in the roster and didn't send me home as national coaches usually do withe me, just because sometimes I lose control of my action
