hm, just throwing this out there...might it not be nice to include a bit of explanation of why exactly you picked the player you did.

To wit, I picked Duncan because he'll give you 25/12/4/2 (PT/RB/AS/BL) basically every night, he's durable, and because I couldn't see myself picking Shaq first because of his injuries.

There are two guys that I thought would go before Webber, maybe three, but I am not complaining. It just means that I have a greater chance of getting one of them...

SO if we could get on with it, I would be happy...

I kind of wondered then if we were going to wait around for someone else to get it over with quickly...

But like you have mentioned it does not really matter because we are still three months away from the season, so we have plenty of time. It just feels like being a 5 year old on Christmas...

if healty webber is a monster gamer.....he shoots, rebounds, blocks and makes several assists.....remember that last year he missed a lot of time for his injury and didn't even have a decent camp to prepare himself.....

1.5 Kevin Garnett

I am very happy to get Garnett with the fifth pick, i expected him to be gone third. I expect him to give me every night 20/10/5 including excellent 80% ft and couple of steals and blocks. a big bonus is his durability.

We have 12 rounds and 12 players in our draft, that makes it total 144 picks. There is still about 80 days left before season starts. So if we can have 2 picks every day, we will make it. At the the end of each round same player has two picks in a row, that makes it little bit faster. Should be relatively easy, or what do you think?

We have to be patient in waiting our turn, because we have at least 1 guy from Australia and 2 from Europe, so sometimes you might have to wait quite a long time before your turn.

I will be out of Finland from 10th of august to 16th of august, having a work trip to New York, but I hope that I can have internet-access couple of times during that period, so I wouldn't let you wait too long.

i took shaq cuz he's shaq - the point differential b/w him and the 10th best centre vs that b/w TD/KG/CWeb and the 10th best forward (same story with the guards) makes him the best pick - i figure there will be a quality guard and forward at #23 and #26 - the risk is the uncertainty of his health, i think he's a worthy #2 if plays 65 games

Hm, if everybody wants to speed it up, I propose that everyone tries to be here sometime between 5-10pm ET tonight... gives the best shot of going through a bunch of rounds quickly. For those too lazy to convert from ET, west coast would be 2-7, .au would be 5-10am (give or take an hour), while unfortunately our .it contingent has to make do with 11pm-4am. I apologise in advance if I missed any timezones, besides any between the west coast and the east coast.

Vilica, it is just going to be a slow draft...If Youngbuck, goes sometime today, I will do my pick quickly but if not, I will not be able to be back on the computer until Tomorrow Night. Just buckle down and be prepared for this to take a while. I will admit that I am skeptical that everyone will stay interested long enough for this work.

Rubalamp (17), I agree with you. I really hope that all of us are motivated enough for this, so we can get the draft completed and also keep our league active.

I think we don't need to rush our draft, at least at this point. Lets continue with the slow draft, at least couple of weeks to see how this works. I might be little bit selfish, but because I am from Europe, I'm not very interested in being awake for the whole night, because of working full-day and during the weekends I prefer some other things.

Are the exact rules for the Yahoo system available in their site. I would like to know couple of things:

1. What types of players do we exactly need to draft? Does G mean either pg or sg, and does F mean either pf of sf?

2. What means Util and bench?

3. Do we select our lineup of 5 players (pg, sg, sf, pf and c) for every week?

4. How exactly are the points calculated (that affects my draft preferations a lot)?

5. For example J O'Neal was specified as f-c, does that mean, he can be used as a sf, pf or c (whatever i prefer).

That's all for now...

Obviously since Youngbuck knows its his turn, due to his (facetious) pick of Glover, I feel we should hold him to it if he has not picked another player by midnight ET.

[Also, even though this is a slow draft, I think that we should implement a 48hr soft cap between picks. If you miss the 2day deadline, we'll wait, but your future picks will be under a 36h cap... miss that and it goes to 24h hard cap that if you miss, your pick will be skipped and added onto the end of the current round with a 24h cap. If you miss that cap, the pick is lost and you get a compensatory choice at the end of the draft. This is only my opinion of course, which is why I enclosed it in brackets.]

Woe, woe...

I thought everybody knew you could tell who people are with their ID Numbers...I was the one who signed as Youngbuck and picked glover.

While I don't mind thinking of something to keep this draft from taking 3 full months, I thought it should be decided on a fair basis. There is a good chance Youngbuck has not been back on here since his initial sign of interest...

Hang Time,

Join the Crowd...

Is there anyway we can come up with a consensus pick for YOUNGBUCK and move on??? That seems fair to me. If we all thought who the next pick should be with some agreement, that would be a fair way to handle it maybe...or maybe just those people who have already picked could decide on YOUNGBUCK's pick, then it would not be like me or anyone else waiting to pick would try to screw him over...What do you think about that idea?

there would be a lot of collusion from the 7-12 spot so if we did a consensus pick I think it should be decided by the 1-5 slots.

Vilica's propose sounds ok to me. At the moment we can't blaim YOUNGBUCK for not making his pick, because he just said that he is interested in joining the league. But he has no idea, that we have already started the draft.

My next turn to draft is 2.8, meaning that there is 14 picks before my next turn. I am travelling tomorrow to New York for a week. I can send a list of 15 players sorted according to my prefereations, is there anyone willing to do my second round drafting. Please send me e-mail, and I'll send the list.

I think I will be back to do the pick 3.5 myself. I might have the internet connection from my hotel anyway, then there wouldn't be any problems.

1.7 Dirk Nowitzki

      Fri, Aug 09, 2002, 09:17
The reason I chose Dirk is because this pick for me was between who I felt were the best few players left that have been consistent and will be in a similar situation next year. Baron Davis was a consideration due to a strong season and a simply amazing post-season, but that was with Mashburn out, so those numbers were a bit inflated for normal. Dirk was just as good, maybe even better performer in Dallas after "the trade" that brought in more guys wanting the ball. Hopefully he will continue his trend of improving his points and boards every season. Maybe Van Exel will even be traded...
Kobe Bryant probably would have been a popular pick, but he did not play that well sometimes when Shaq was off the court, and when Shaq was playing, Kobe's production often went a little south. Plus, I hate the Lakers...

I hope i made the right decision. I was stuck between Kobe/Payton/Davis.

First started to go with Payton and then reconsidered considering he might be moved to
another team with a lesser role. Also the fact one of his key assist men in Lewis might not
be there. Didnt seem like a safe first pick.

Kobe was ruled out because of his assist numbers and ability to sit out games if he needs
(Shaq-factor). Davis is the francise, and should have the same role as last year.
Maybe even a little added motivation now that he has fans in NO ;)

Andre didnt make the list because I think his role will be alot smaller on a talented team.

sorry rubalamp, i dont like the pick of dirk, Dallas has too many stars to take one in the first round, Dirk, finley, exel, nash, lafrentz, they can't all score every night. I mean Dirk is great to have because of his 3 pt range at the PF position but dsont like it.

Dirk isnt a bad pick. Give you solid 3PT RB FG% numbers. BUT, some of his numbers are
a bit bloated because of all the time that passed last year w/o Nick & Lafrentz. I think the key
to him being the kind of impact he'll need to be is Dallas not getting a bigman this offseason.

I liked him, I thought he may have slipped to me, but it would have been hard for you to pass on him. My only real question with him this year, is will having Grant back (knock on wood) effect his numbers. I was still considering Dirk and Baron even if TMac was available mainly for that reason...

clach has been able to check in occasionally, so I think he will probably get his two picks in soon...

Pierce was really the number one player??? That is pretty shocking. He was probably barely in the top 10 in Smallworld, if he even was...

PTI, Pardon the Interupton, but....

roto-rankng players is frequently quite different than what you may perceive on the court or how they put up TSPNs because all categeories either hurt/help. IE a power fwd has to shoot FTs and a guard has to rebound.

FWIW, check out who finished where according to ESPN last year.

Now, back to your draft.....

so Wesley Person is a better fantasy player than Stackhouse, Iverson, and both O'Neal's??? Come on that is simply ridiculous...

Big is relative. He's #14 in 3s. Behind such studs as Pat Garrity, Jason Terry, Nash, Mobley, Eddie Jones, Spree & Fisher.

Back to the draft... how are we handling Clach?

It's a slowdraft. We started the draft knowing his limitations, that should indicate that we accept those limitations. So, we wait until he makes his picks...Nobody said this would be easy, but it definitely will be frustrating...

maybe I don't understand how this game is played if Person scores more fantasy points than shaq...I have only played Small World the past 3 seasons, so I understand their point system...

Want me to help? In a h2h yahoo league with scoring catergories such as pts rebs 3pt fg% ft% to ast stl
what happens is... u add all ur players pts together against the perosn wo ur playing against for that week and whoever scores more pts gets a W, same for all the other catergories, so if ur team hits 100 3's in 1 week and the other guy hits only 20 bt scores more pts they both count eqwually, so with 9 catergories if i win Pts, rebs, asts, stls, to's, and lose ft fg and blks my record is 6-3, Should help

Fook me, why didn't I join this draft? Anyway, if you don't feel like waiting 'till 18th for Clach to show up, how about replacing him with me, I'm available all the time... With broken toes, I ain't movin' much for the next while. So let me know, I've already figured out my possible 1.12 pick.

If you would have been here a couple days ago you could have had Youngbuck's spot, but Clach told us from the get-go he had this thing and whoever started did so with that knowledge without asking a single question. If you trade him out it would be pretty crappy if you ask me. They have internet cafe's all over Europe don't they? He should be able to check in shortly...

He said he was in Barcelona last time, maybe we let samuli draft for him, if clach likes the team hes in otherwise we give it to samuli

Samuli, stick close. YOUNGBUCK may "forget about this draft thing" again, and I would be more than willing to make him lose out due to irresponsibility.

I am against anything that limits Clach. Not because we couldn't probably draft two players that he would be happy with, but because of the principle involved...

Samuli, I say you should pick for him until he comes back. There is really no going wrong in the early rounds anyways.

So this way we punish Clach for Youngbuck...Remember that YB was the one that blew us off for two full days, and now that we knew clach would be limited, we just tell him piss off...That ain't right. If he is unhappy with any of the picks chosen for him what form of restoration are you preparing to offer him...

It is quite possible that we would draft him players he doesn't want. I wanted Dirk at the 7, it seems like a lot of people may have picked either Pierce, Kobe, or Baron. There is a method to my madness, and there is a reason I wanted Dirk...Mr. Nice Guy, you put Clach in without any questions about his availability and without creating any rules on time allotment (which I would not have been opposed to, but you can't create them as we go with out agreement from everyone...). To go back on that now would be really crappy. So if it goes to a vote, I am a No way in Hell...

by the way, I am not trying to simply be a pain in the arse. I am just trying to make the draft fair. We all should be interested in that, especially if we are going to actually be using these teams this season

beetski, your plan has major limitations still. Because if even one person is missing the most we could get through is one round...IF we worked it out so that as many could be here, but everyone was represented by email lists of people. I would rather not do it like that, but my schedule is going to be pretty hectic the next couple weeks...

Remember, though, the season is still nearly 3 months away...we can take our time!!!
