Alright. I was just making sure...YOUNGBUCK are you still out there??

Jukka emailed me a list for the preferences for his next pick so, I am representing him...I know Memphis fan is still around, and beebop?

I am leaving at 9 am on the 13th and will return late afternoon on the 15th...so if the draft gets to me, I won't be able to check it until then, sorry guys...but you know these crazy staff retreats...

back to basketball, who u think clach is gonna pick?Brand, Miller. two clippers pretty good, available. Hell, Michael Jordan can be a pretty solid pick, ya know? I mean he may not play and all, but hes still MJ. Anyone else got any predictions?

btw, if we implemented the 48/36/24h clock, clach still has, by my calcs, about 2 days before we skip both picks. Also, from what it sounds like, due to schedules and such, we might be better off -postponing- the draft for a week or so, possibly to the 25th or 27th or such. However, if you wanted to make a pick, you could, just that there would be no requirement to do such. If anybody has anymore conflicts with timing, they should post them so that it is understood just exactly when one is available, and who isn't going to be available at that time.

Hm, my last post is a bit confusing. What I meant is that if everybody posted times that they know they will be unavailable for an extended period of time (1-2days or more), to let everybody know when exactly those days are. The comment about postponing the draft was in reference to all the posts about drafters moving back to college (damn, I didn't know how many college-age kids browsed, the usual commentary seems to skew much older) and thus being unavailable.

A Question...
For categories such as FG% and FT%, how is it calculated for the team as a whole? Is it...

(a) Total Team FGM (FTM) / Total Team FGA (FTA)

OR

(b) Average of the 10 individual FG%'s (FT%'s)

Thanks in advance for any help.

The answer is A.
I didnt figure it out mdiway trough last season, I had a plan, pick up a guy, let him have a good fg and ft% like 4-5 from field 2-2 from the line and then drop him and keep his averages but it didnt work, they barely weight the total ave.

So you made it alot easier on me. I was only questioning him because of Odom and
Dre being new to the squad and Kandi's pending breakout?

I am beginning to doubt that we are ever going to finish this draft because we have too much time. We have so much time in fact, that no one actually cares to see any reason to do it in a timely manner, which leads to others getting bored and/or pissed at this, which leads to people giving up on it. If we have not made it well to the start of the fourth round by the end of August, I think I will probably really begin to lose interest...

Why say you are going to do something if you aren't... Clach found a way to keep up to date with a huge barrier...

I am also little bit worried about how succesful we are in finishing this draft. But Hang Time informed us that he doesn't have access to internet access before 19-20th, so I think he will make his pick today and then the draft will speed up again.

I must admit I am a bit anxious. But the good part is the wait is making us think about
the draft quite a bit more than you would in another Yahoo draft. This is a good thing
IMO, because Yahoo has been notorious (at least to me) for being a draft and
sit game at times. Meaning that drafting is the highlight of the game -- so we might
as well enjoy it as long as we can. And im extremely pleased with the quality of
people in the draft.

Hang-time had said the 17th or 18th. If he doesn't make his pick today, I think we should consider doing the skip thing. I don't mind if people know in advance they can't be here for a certain time, but to say you will and then you don't is just unbelievably annoying to me. Four days for one pick, come on.

And anyway, I want to know where you are that over a few day time span you can't get internet access at all? I mean libraries, and internet cafe's clach checked in three times all during his trip...

I am assuming we are using the Yahoo Rotisserie rules described here rules
if this is not the case then someone should chime in - Mr NG please confirm!!

i took some time yesterday to look at last year's stats and project the top players - significant differences from TSN IMHO - i think my Shaq pick at #2 might have been a mistake (without even considering the # of games he may miss) - while he's strong in PPG/RPG/FG%/Blocks he's weak on 3s/FT%/Steals - guys like Dirk/Pierce/TMac have the same strengths with less downside - 2 centres may be better than Shaq (BigBen and ???)

I think Pierce at #8 is the best pick so far, Shaq @2/Webber @4/Kobe @10 seem to be the worst IMVERYHO

I understand how the points are calculated, but I still have two things that are unclear. Could someone of you give me answers to these things:

1. When/How often do we have chance to change our active lineup of 10 players?

2. In Yahoo some players are ranked like f-c
does that mean that they can play
a) pf or c
b) sf,pf and c

my guess is that the rater compares the player's stats to the league avg/median (or avg/median of the top 250 players or something) then assigns a rating based on how much better/worse the player is than the avg/median

if it uses absolute #s as opposed to per game #s then Francis would be low because his head be achin' - Brent Barry is high b/c he played 81 games last year and does well in assts/steals/3s, decent in pts/rbs/FG%/FT%, and not terrible in blocks/TOs

this scoring system really rewards the all-round players that play lots o' minutes/games

Ivy(60) and Francise(57) both tend to miss alot of games. Although I dont trust the
ESPN rankings. I tend to go by last years numbers and/or gut on how I think they'll
respond. Its doubtful that CWeb will sit out the first half of the season again -- but i
guess it could happen.

I admit I am making this pick somewhat blind. I see Ray as being an extremely one dimensional player, so I don't like him for Smallworld fanatsy game, but shooting alone seems to effect about 4 categories in this type of game (points and all the %'s) I also noticed that his average draft number last year was 6th overall at one of those websites, so for him to still be here at the 18th overall pick is pretty cool. I won't mention the names of those I was debating between with this pick, so maybe they will still be around for me in round 3...

OLD Reliables is a bit contradictory...Stockton could break a hip...Vince, has to prove to me that he is ready to be the Vince of old...but the names you mention crossed my mind, well except for Stockton...I actually jotted notes that I would take him if he were still on the board in round 4 for sure, but before that he still will have pretty stiff competition, at least where I have projected people going. I thought I was going to get Antoine Walker for a couple days...

Stockton is a rock! So is Malone! They've played for what 100 years and missed a combind 5 games prob. (rough estimate) Stockton also played 82 games last year! Those are two guys I would bet the house on 80 games at least. :) I do agree about Vince tho, I second guess him.

Our draft is rolling...
Short explanation for Jermaine... I might have got better stats from some other guy, but he is listed as f-c, so he gives me some flexibility to select my rotation and most importantly I can use him as my center and centers position is the toughest one to fill in.

A suggestion:
why after pick 2.12 we don't fix exactly the rules?
For instance we'll play head-to -head or no?
So we can complete our teams in a more appropriate way

Wow, really moving now! Suprised to see Pow go so early. For a few reasons -- one being im a huge Pow fan. Others being, Lorenzen being back -- addition of Gooden and return of Dickerson. I dont think he'll have near the numbers he had last year. But he's still the man. :)

Cant help it, If the #1 pick gets Duncan and Malone it wont be a good thing! At least with Shaq + Malone he'll have some balance while Oneal is out.

Vilica is definitely going to get two really strong players with the 24 and 25 picks. But I am comfortable with Dirk and Ray. And also, the draft will be much more drab by the time picks 48 and 49 come around, so it will all balance out...

Beetski:

The problem with Pierce and Tone for #1-#2 are that your team is based on them. So, slow weeks in BOS kill your team. IE. 2-3GM weeks.

Yes, BUT head-to-head. Means that some weeks you'll be really weak and lose or be really strong. I think it hurts your chances overall. But we'll see.

something about picking Barry doesn't sit well, but looking at the numbers (even on a per game basis) shows him to be one of the best all-rounders in the game

I will have both my picks up by midnight tonight. I'm doing training for the incipient freshman rush to the network, and I'm living offcampus so getting back and forth without a car is quite the hassle. [I'm in a computer lab now, but I don't have my rankings, nor do I have the time to grab them quickly and look.]

FT% - less than league avg - NOT top 50
3pm - i think he had 9 last year - NOT top 50
Bpg - 79th in the league

great basketball player - not top 30 in this pool

OMG.

Not every player has every catagory. But he's top 20 in three!. And your wrong about your FG and FT statistics. 45% FG puts him with all the top players. Id re-check your numbers, sure there are guys with high FG% that only shoot once or twice per game. But look at the guys that score 20+ PPG. All the top 50 are within 45-50% FG. And 80% from the line not being good? Your kidding right?

Also, he only averages 2 TOs per game. Sure, Only 59 blocks. But thats more than alot of players. And we all know PFs dont shoot 3s. :)

If you consider CWeb a top 15 pick. How can you not consider Malone as 15-20 pick? They're soo close statisicly. And Malone is guarenteed 80 games. Perhaps one of the most important numbers in Yahoo leagues -- which might make him an even better pick. But anyways, let him slip to me please.
