Before we start, I need 2 draft ground rules cleared up and 1 league rule determined:
(1) Keepers - how many? This may affect who I will draft in the middle rounds.
(2) Are you allowed to publically discuss on the message board (either by naming, insinuating, etc.) players who haven't been drafted yet? This affects how willing I am to try and let someone I like slip to my next pick. In football, you could not name or even insinuate anything about players who were still available. I prefer this approach, but it needs to be agreed upon. Otherwise I'll assume it's fine to discuss undrafted players openly, make suggestions, etc.
(3) Smack... personally I like to dish out the sarcastic smack and receive it in retrun, it makes it more fun. But it depends how thin/ thick-skinned people are... I don't want to hurt or offend anyone (see prior thread)... but on the other hand I'd like to have fun. I don't know you guys yet (except a couple of you), so that's why I'm asking what this crowd is like. I was a little suprised by the reaction to my Heart of Darkness reference... it seemed appropriate since Memphis Fan wanted me to "convince some people of my master plan". =-)

Re:(1)It says 3 keepers at the top of the MAIN POST. i guess we will stick with 3. Sooner or later we will all need to agree on a 'keeper method/system', but for now, i think everyone just wants to start drafting and get on with the fun.
Re:(2)i think the message board is officially NO HOLDS BARRED. It will be hard to enforce a gag order on discussion, let alone silence 10 guys on draft prospects. I think it is "let the buyer beware" territory now. If anyone wants to play HEAD-GAMES and start "hyping up" undrafted players, let it be and it may backfire...
Re:(3) "SMACK"... its all good hearted fun. Keep in mind that whoever you talk SMACK to, may be a person you ultimately need to make a deal with during the season. What goes around comes around.... But personally, as long as everything is in good taste and is within the realm of 'basketball', if it gets into personal life, sexual fetishes, mom's or sister's.... THEN there could be repercussions (see ending credits of J&SBSB "f_cking clown shoes" hhahahhahahahh)

One issue I would like addressed is veto. I think that majority (6 managers) against any trade should invoke a veto. This includes draft trades and regular season. Are well all in favor of this? I think its a needed percaution so someone whos 'less involved' doesn't throw the game.

Think the two managers involved in the trade shouldn't count towards voting. So I think 5 managers to veto would be a majority of the remaining managers and be pretty fair. I don't like the 2 managers to veto idea since and two managers could buddy up and prevent all trading in the league. Granted, I figure we're all in this for a nice fair competitive playing field, but 2 just seems like each individual holds too much power. I'm fine w/ 4 or 5 needed to veto.
And, I thought we had enough votes for 3 keepers.
And, I have no problem with public discussions. Just remember, there can only be one winner. :) Everybody's looking out for only one guy in this draft.

At the end of the last thread, beebop posted "Kiwi2 also likes the 3 keepers and a franchise player. So thats at least 4 ppl for that."
I'm not sure if I counted as one of those 4, but I vote for 4 keepers, either 3 and a franchise (as beebop wrote), or some other system using 4 keepers.
I would also vote that 4 should be enough to veto a trade... that's half the managers not involved in a 2-team trade, and a majority if there are any 3-way deals.

I just had a thought... suppose it is my turn to pick, and I pick a player that has already been selected (say I had picked Tim Duncan at #3). Can the person after me go ahead and make their pick? They aren't responsible for double-checking me, that's my responsibility in the first place. I think the draft should be allowed to continue, and it's up to me to correct my bad pick. If other players are taken before I correct my pick, too bad for me, I can't "take them back" from the person who picked after me. I know Lazio agrees with me on this... anyone else?

Out of common courtesy, if you know the guy before you picked somebody who's been picked, then you should let him know. If it so happens that you honestly didn't know and you've revealed your pick already, then I think you should be able to keep your pick.
Let's have a competitive league, but keep it friendly and fair.

Kiwi - A clock is hard because we are international, for example, I don't expect I should have to make picks between midnight and 9am local time, because I am sleeping. With at least 2 in Australia and 1 in Italy, there is no time of day when we're all online simultaneously. I think the best we could do might be a 12-hour clock, just to be sure nobody takes off for an extended period without leaving a queue. You know if your pick is coming up soon or not, I really don't think this should be a big problem. With 12 hours, at most you would need to check when you go to bed, when you get up, and once during the day.

I would request that if your pick is coming up soon (in the next 3 picks or so) and you're going to be away for a while (more than 2-3 hours) or going to sleep or whatever, that you please leave a queue with someone. If you aren't sure who to send your queue to, I work from home so I'm usually online from about 11am-3am EST, and beebop said he's online from 1am-9am EST, so between the two of us we pretty much have the whole day covered. Otherwise, leave it with someone else that you know will be online.

Just to be clear, that's 3 regular keepers PLUS a franchise player, for a total of 4 players kept. We are still working out the details of the system. The idea with the franchise player is you can keep him longer than you can keep the others. But for drafting purposes, the main thing to keep in mind is that you can keep up to 4 players.

I just felt that this league was not going to work with all the insults flying around. So, instead of finding 8 other people, it was easier to replace just one. Ill explain more later....im going to bed now....should be back in 6 hours.
