First pick made. Unlike last year I don't think there was a ton of suprise with this pick. It will be interesting to see where it goes from here.

Yep, if you had made any other pick, I would have been surprised.

If you go to my team and the edit team info, that is wehre you choose to display your email or not. I thnk KF is the only one to not have his email showing at this point. YOu can also change your team's initials (defaults to the first 3 letters of your team name). Also thi syear you can upload your own icon. So the site is making osme improvements, jsut needs to do a whole lot more with their keeper issues.

Thanks for the offer Pete.

I never thought it would be so hard to click 'post now!' while drafting Greg Oden.

Now that I've done it ... to those of you drafting 4-5-6 ... would you have taken him, or am I a dumbass?

The draft has started, but the clock will not start until Sunday at 3PM. The draft site at NBA.com is pretty nice. I think you can set a queue on it, but the draft thread is, I think, the official selection.

The NBA site has so many great ideas, but so many things have bugs that don't work. Do they even check this stuff when they put it out there?

Seems like it GO. When I tried talking to them, they were acting like they were just this side of stupid. Tosh found this site and signed us up so he is the "head commish" and they actually work with him better so he's been able to get a LOT of things worked out...eventually. Most of you have no idea all the crap we've been going through. Last night Tosh fwd me two things we asked the NBA to fix and they said those were mistakes they would fix. Today he's sending them the lineup issues. I think that's going to be a HUGE problem. Tosh has really helped us in so many ways. I've thanked him privately, but I'd like to do it publicly too, because it's time-consuming and a LOT of work.

Interesting results thus far from the poll question. For some reason this year a lot of people were asking my opinion on who would go where or who would I pick in a certain situation. I told them that some of those spots are tough as my team might be in a different situation than theirs. I then was told be a few who they were taking. So then obviously I couldn't tell anyone who was taking what.

Tosh basically traded up to get Conley at #3 and was going to get Oden at #7. I think what spooked him was rfs trying to trade up to get in the mix. He asked me awhile back what my thoughts were on Oden. I told him that I wouldn't take him with my team but "some dumbass would take him higher than he should go." He responded with, well I guess I'm that dumbass as I'm taking him at 7. Looks like Slizz would have taken him at #4 so I think that he made the right move in that he felt he HAD to have him. As I told Tosh, that might be the right move for his team, but I would have gotten Conley if it were my team.

Tosh could have a nice team next year with Oden and perhaps another high pick. Frick has two straight #1 picks. Slizz has better get two very good players to make up for Conley. I LOVE the Horford pick. I think he is underated--albeit a rookie. I think Durrant will get plenty of mins and shots. Conley is the starting PG, but he has a lot of competition that could cut into his mins. Still, he is so athletic and versitile that the cream will rise eventually, if not sooner. Oden is a manchild but he gets no experience this year. He has to come back from microfracture surgery so who knows his level of health next year. As great as his potential, there are question marks abound. Still, he's young and Amare seems to have bounced back pretty well. Just may take longer than expected.

I finally decided to vote on the poll about me/Oden. My vote is "no". The combo of players I had (Billups/Redd/schwag) was never going to get me anywhere, anytime. Now I have a big man and my 2009-10 (hopefully 2008-09) future is so bright I have to wear shades.

So far, the draft has gone exactly as my queue list. After passing on Conley at 1.03, I was hoping to get Acie Law at 1.06, but just missed him. Hopefully Corey Brewer works out for me. There are a lot of good options at this point.

And honestly, I'm not concerned about the players not on the lineups. Players are being added correctly at the "League -> Rosters" page.

I had the opportunity to make a couple of moves that would have resulted with 3 picks in the top top 13 or 14. I almost pulled the trigger, but I couldn't pass on Durant. Part of my concern was that the move didn't make sense if I couldn't guarantee that I would get Oden. This year would have been year 2 of rebuilding, but year 3 could have looked very very nice.

I contemplated sending GO a trade offer last night for the 1.06 pick, but thought it might have been a bit to early for Acie Law. Obviously I was mistaken on that.

If Tosh had taken Conley, I'd have taken Oden at 1.04. that being said, Conley was who I wanted with my pick. I think Conley will be the best of that Buckeye team as a pro. Yep, better than oden. we shall see!

PS --- My offer is still out there for Marbury or Jackson for a first rounder (subject to who is left). So, e-mail me before you pick if you want a "Steph"

nba site is sitll driving me nuts. I send them a note and they quickly repsonded saying there was nothing wrong. So I rebooted and tired again...still nothing. Kept trying and magically the sort by position started working. Still can't sort by name on the html version and they only give you of long of a list. The applet is working fine, so if you can't find your player, go to the applet and search. Anyhow, pete and slizz ahve their picks entered now.

I just got back after watching my mighty Oregon Ducks kick some serious Husky butt.

I've got no idea what sort of problems you guys are talking about. I was able to add Scola to Coldwater's team in about 3 seconds. :]

Nba.com definitely has a few chinks in the armor. I am not able to do a positional search in the applet, and when I left this morning, I had a queue of 11 players. Now they are gone.

I'm gone all day Sunday. You guys are on your own.

White Chocolate in the house!

After talking to Ref, I am second guessing the 1.04 & 6.01 for 1.10 & 2.10 trade. I lost out on a "franchise" Chris Paul type PG. I felt I could make my team more competative this season and increase my odds as the years go on.

Only time will tell though...

Peter N...great pick bro, great pick. I was debating if i should choose stuckey over belinelli and said that best case scenario, stuckey is dwayne wade in terms of %'s and wont get that much in the crowded detroit offense and belinelli will get treys and better %'s in the GSW offense. Either way, hell of a pick, my eyes were getting really wide as he was falling!

I love the upside of both Young and Stuckey. Playing time might be an issue with Stuckey, but he's the real deal so I think he'll earn plenty of it. We shall see.

Ref is up.

I'm not thrilled with this pick. If I had been around at all today I probably would have shopped this pick around. I think Nocioni was the best player available, but wasn't the best choice for my team. The other 2 players that I considered could quite possibly undrafted when I come back up or could be gone in the next few picks. High risk/reward and I decided to go the low risk route.

If you wanted Nocioni and don't mind swapping later draft picks I'm willing to drop down in this round.

I was tempted to really reach and choose him 2.01...and take whichever big man fell to me at 2.10.

Most people dont realize he is only 20!!! In the NBDL he put up KG #'s and in spot duty last year nearly averaged KG #'s. Shoots around 80% at the line and could be an impact player this year, if not, definitely next.

With 20 managers, its hard when you skip a round, 40 picks later, its like skipping 4 rounds, or at least 3.

Re: Maxiell - I had no idea where to take him, barilko, but he's been such a beast that I figured with Nazr and McDyess ready for a stretcher, a walker or an old folks home that Maxiell would take over at some point. He's exactly the kind of young frontcourt player I needed for the future.

thats the dillema we all face, do we take them now or hope they drop later...i always tend to lean towards reaching to get your guy, no matter what the league might be...in this case, it definitely applies b/c the league is so deep!

Per the detroit newspapers, maxiell dropped 30 lbs and they might rotate him in with Tayshaun Prince also...SF/PF (F) eligibility.

My plan the whole time was to get Delonte with my pick. But when I got up, I checked on things one last time and there were some uncertainties surrounding his situation that didn't seem to be present with Hedo. I hoped he'd fall but seeing as how I was a little surprised that he was still there at my pick, I'm not surprised that Mike D took him right away.

I had Amir at the end of the season. He was up and down but his ups were really nice. I think I had Maxiel multiple times as well. For as deep as we are, there are still some nice players coming off the board.

I traded my 3rd round pick for him then had to drop him soon after. If he gets the court time, he can be a very valuable player. If he doesn't, he will wind up on your bench at best. I lik ehim a lot and would start him probably if I were in charge. Luke has had plenty of time to prove himself. Delonte can play both guard positions though so we shall see.

yep. The site is goofy. Now it's giving mike d a mysterious 13th rounder. I'm having to try all kinds of tricks to make this work and then get off the auto-pick or whatever happened to GO's pick. Just like the twarpy/rfs pick, when you trade a pick, it pushes all keepers up a round. Need to set keepers 1-6 next year and start in round 7 moving forward as it's a pain to try to make this work.

FWIW, I also sent GO the note about the pick but couldn't get online until after 9 am this morning and would have taken Blatche with the pick. But obviously the trade is approved. Draft should be up in a couple more mins.

I've got to admit that I'm really disappointed in the interfaces of the basketball sites. Yahoo is the best by far for non-keeper leagues. You know what you're getting. The code is solid. Sure there are a few things I don't like, namely how you can't use a player you pick up until the next day, etc. But they have almost no commmish abilities once the season starts. And for live scoring you have to shell out more than what it would cost for us to split CBS or another pay site that would give us all of our controls.

CBS is by far the best site as far as what our league needs. It would cost us about $5 each. There has always been something precluding our play there though. At first it was their lack of multiple positions. they finally fixed that before last year but still didn't have game limits per position. I didn't even check that this year as NBA had supposedly fixed their screw-ups from last year.

The NBA site is free and supposedly gives us everything we need in a league like this. Problem is they screw up their code--esp. for keeper leagues. They've been working with us--sometimes quickly--to fix things but it is a pain. They also didn't have the live scoring of standings last year liek CBS does.

I'm really surprised that Yahoo's premium package doesn't give the controls that CBS does. CBS' interface has some things that isn't as good as Yahoo.

I think what is irking me more than ever is that if we're having this many issues preseason, what is the season going to be like? Tosh was right in that most of our issues are keeper-league problems. But still...fix your stuff!!!

FYI,

CBS does offer games maxes this year. I'm looking aroudn the site now. If people want to change, we'd have to reserve teh site by tomorrow and it would cost everyone an additional $5 for the site fee. All live scoring, etc. would be included. We'd continue the nba.com draft if desired and then just abandon the site.

We could also go to Yahoo but would lose some features like same day pickups that go in your lineup and most all commish controls and constituion, etc. It's also I think $8 for live scoring (I know some already have that in other leagues).

Thoughts?

I had to have a C. Still not sure that I have one or not!!! ;) I figured that since no one else was talking about the big elephant in the room, I would.

Have looked through the entire CBS site and I've read the FAQs and I've asked for clarification about the following...am assuming it's different now that they have max GPs per position now...

Question
Why are my players point totals not correct?

Answer
The scoring is based on per game averages, not cumulative totals. If a player does not participate in the game, he will not be charged with a "game played" and it will not affect his average for the Period. Each players total points scored is divided by the number of games they played in for the week to determine their point total.

EX. Lamar Odom scores 120 total points for the week, he participated in 3 games, his total for the week would be 40 points.

Here is the back and forth with CBS (first is latest):

Response (Ron R.) 10/23/2007 04:12 PM
This is new and they must have just added it.

Customer 10/23/2007 03:19 PM
I'm confused. We didn't use your site in the past because of that. But as I'm looking at it now, it appears that you've added a max stats per position. Setup/rules/min/max. You have it for baseball and this is the same spot.

Response (Ron R.) 10/23/2007 02:43 PM
You can use total stats but max games is not part of the setup. The only way to have max games, is for you to watch it on your own.

Customer 10/23/2007 12:11 PM
Confused by a question.

Consideing using this site for the first time since you've added max limits. We'd have used his 6 years ago if you had that and multi-posiions then. Anyhow...we need cumulative points. What's this about using average points? That's a deal-killer if I understand it right. We use max games and cumulative points--not avg. points.

Even the commish didn't know about it.

A funny story about Sam Perkins.

For awhile, I worked at a local brewpub, and Perkins and his agent would come in every couple weeks. They would go over his schedule, sign a few balls and jerseys, and do what agents/clients do.

One time, there was a tableful of local hippies sitting nearby. One of them walked up and said, "Dude! You are our favorite Sonic, and we call you 'The Percolator'. Every time you make a 3-pointer, we take a huge bong hit. So we wanted you to have this." And the hippie pulled out a big stinky bud.

Perkins politely turned it down, signed an autograph, and went about his business.

About 30 minutes later, the agent left, and Perkins walked up to the table. He said to the hippies, "Thanks for the earlier offer guys. But next time, please put it into a film canister."

Mike D - I might come knocking about Kendrick a little bit later. I have an even better player in my queue for pick 4.07.

It's amazing that even deep sleepers on my list go higher than expected.

Our draft is actually going slower than usual. We had about a round head start and we're still a couple picks behind schedule. Obviously that can be made up quickly. Seems there aren't the Qs we normally have. I also blame the email system instead of emailing the next three as partial blame. Still we're in fine shape as long as we get a round per day in or so. Don't see any need to cut the clocks. Was going to add an extra hour on the c clock as one manager is already under 3 hours but not sure we can do that yet. Everyone else's clock is fine.

Tosh has also been looking around on the CBS site. Looks like it will work, but, again, it's like $5 each. We have some money in our trophy fund (an extra $50 was just donated to it), but that's not enough to cover it and we're going to have to get a new trophy after this year, so it would be a pay me now or pay me later kind of thing.

I think the bottom line is this. It's either NBA or CBS. Tosh has had less problems than I have had in NBA. We both have used CBS commish controls before and love them. We're just throwing this out there so you have an alternative if you desire. But in order to get it for $100, we have to pay for the site via credit card by Tonight (Wed). It goes to $150 on Thursday. If you wish to stay at NBA, that's fine too. It's supposed to be better. It's just buggy at times and we're stuck once the season starts. Just need feedback so we can pursue it or drop it and continue with NBA.

Flying today after a major slowdown yesterday. Added the picks per day like I added in football.

Obviously we have a lot more picks today, but wanted to get it posted as we have two managers with less than 3 hours. PDs are back to back so I doubt the clock will be an issue at all for us now that we are ahead of schedule again.

Thanks to those managers at the bottom who started emailing the next three and allowed us to rip off a bunch of picks in a row. My list was cut down so bad because of people picking my players that I only had two managers left. Still it took me a few mins to get caught up on the site with the Qs. My computer is moving very slowly right now...too many programs open I guess as that site was taking FOREVER to process.

Ricky Davis on the move to Miami. Does that help or hurt his stats?

His playing time in Minny might have been cut back as they play all their younger guys and let them develop. However, he won't be the first option in Miami, and if Shaq comes back, he will be a distant third.

Timberwolves Ricky Davis and Mark Blount were traded to the Miami Heat in exchange for Antoine Walker, Michael Doleac, Wayne Simien and a conditional first-round pick on Wednesday.

The Heat get Davis, who should immediately start at shooting guard for injured Dwyane Wade, while the Wolves got a first-round pick and one year less of a bad contract by moving Blount for Walker. Davis could play small forward when Wade returns, as Penny Hardaway and disappointing Dorell Wright are fighting it out for the starting job this season. While it's not likely that Walker will ever play a game for the Wolves, it should push rookie Corey Brewer into the spotlight in Minnesota, along with Rashad McCants and Randy Foye. Davis' fantasy value shouldn't change much with the move, as the Heat were just as desperate for a scorer as the Wolves. Oct. 24 - 3:41 pm et

Definately seems to be a problem with the login, I wish it would just cookie and save my session, sometimes I seem to auto-login and other times I have to re-login again without even closing my IE session.

Right now though it just wont login.

Nice pick with Hilton Armstrong.

With one pick before me, I was hoping Kenny Thomas would survive. Then I check my email to see who went with pick 5.14 and I see "Ken" and I'm like "nooooooooooooo" then I saw "yon Martin" and let out a sigh of relief.

Anyone able to take a queue for me for the rest of the day/night? I should be able to get my 5.18 in, as I'm here for another couple hours, but for my 6.06 and (maybe) 6.18, I'm out until ~ 7am EDT. As a last resort, I'll send it to Ref and Tosh - feel free to send it to whomever makes sense guys. I know there was at one point, but if there's currently a way to pre-rank players and turn on autopick, I can't find it.

I'll be online most of the rest of the day, and don't pick until 6.07.

The autopick option is still there, but I wouldn't use it myself. It might end up picking Charles Barkley for you.

OK - I'll send it to you Tosh. Feel free to pass it on to someone else if you have to take off. I do see the autopick option, but I don't see the pre-rank players option under "My Team", as it says I should in the FAQ. Oh well. Yeah, I don't need no Round Mound.

What a day. Sorry for the delay. I told Twarpy I was going to be away for a couple hours but there were several picks yet to go then. I had two players on my list (one still there from last round). Was hoping one of them would be gone so it would make my pick easier.

As far as logging goes, I've had the same problem in the past. If you're already logged in when it happens, you're fine. It doesn't seem to remember your sessions this year and you end up on the landing page to log in. No biggie but stinks when the login isn't working.

I think the WW looks good right now because injuries are for the most part, at a minimum, and we always expect players to do better. Some players are going to get injuried, others are going to have bad years, i.e. it isn't a contract year.

Does anyone else here compile stats to see where their team is at? Do those stats currently show that half of the teams in the league are going to score more points than the top place team did last year? I guess the NBA could have a huge resurgence in offense, but I doubt it.

The C clock is now for "entertainment purposes only" as no one else is under 3 hrs except bmd--who picks last. We should easily complete the draft before the weekend as we had hoped. I won't post this again until the draft is over.

Anyone herad from Species?

Generally we end the draft as fast as possible after the last pick has been made/timed out so no one gets an unfair advantage by waiting. Thing is, after he was skipped and bmd waited a couple hours to pick...it's been almost another 3 hours. I'll send him a note as we would liek him to make the pick. It's probably not a huge deal to him, but still, would be nice if he could make it--even if he intends to throw him right back.

I just sent him an email, but my guess is that if he could get that he'd be able to make his pick. In a prior draft the question was how long can we take to make our last pick? Cards and I got together and decided we'd give them 3 hrs after they the last pick was made/timed out at the very most. So my guess is that we will do that here as well unless he sends word that he can make his pick shortly before that 3 hour window after the last pick was made comes up. I think if I giv ehim Pooh now and bmd makes his pick the draft is over right then. So we'll give him a few more mins.

Btw, I am in no hurry to get the waivers turned on, just trying to balance fairness here with the league. I would have no issue of giving him a couple extra hours to just before the games start tonight to make his pick if no one else has any objections. It's obvious this is not an intentional ploy to get more info/news.

I've got the final two players entered and, as suspected, it ended the draft.

You may go ahead and use this thread while we get things set-up to start the season. Once we get waivers turned on it will be 24 hours (not one full day as it is in CBS and Yahoo!) before the players come off waivers. Once we get things turned on and started, we will let you know and start a season thread in the main Basketball Forum.

Is anyone having any troubles with the website? Is everyone's rosters correct? Finding any broken links?

REMINDER : Waivers and trades are not like Yahoo, where they are processed at some time overnight. nba.com processes transactions exactly 24 hours after they occur (a player is dropped, or a trade is agreed to).

Therefore ... players clear waivers on 10/27/2007 04:55 pm ET. Get those bids in early!
