i'll take the rest of the teams left.
i'll post the pre randonization order.
i'll post the randomization process and ask for two sets of random numbers.
i'll send an email out to everyone tonight after work.
pretty much in that order.
it sounds like the main RIHC draft will start around the 15th october. we will shoot for 13th-14th. we will get a draft order set soon which should leave you all a solid week to aganize over your first picks. ;}

is everyone making their list and checking it twice.
there is still two who haven't signed in to kafenatid. you know who you are.

my plan is to open the draft on the morning of the 13th, monday EST. i will email a request to check-in. once i hear from everyone or they put a draft pick in i will start the clock hopefully that night. so it should get serious the morning of the 14th. for those of you that do the sleeping thing or just don't have young kids, the clock stops to sleep, i set it for 11pm to 7am, an 8 hour break. again EST. this works well for american time zones.
Do we have any european or asian contestants. in the past they were willing to work around it and the queue system works well. we can talk if there are problems.

in the past we have tried to start our minor league drafts ahead of the main event RIHC for fear of them influencing our picks. the thought being that they are soooo much better than us that we will copy them. ;} whether the statment or sentiment is true i'd argue but if there are no serious objections i'll continue the policy.
that and i just wanna get draftin. tee hee, like a kid waitin for christmas.

I am from Austria (ET+6). this was no real problem in the past.
since the ALCS, NLCS and WS are taking place during our draft I guess I will be up during some of these nights and if not I will leave a queue. you just need to make sure to not pick any of the players in my queue.

????

oh i see.
i can't see your queue's untill it is your turn to actually pick. you can set your queue to only show your top player, no one else. i believe this is default. there is an option to let your designated picker see your whole list if you want him to free pick for you based on some instructions but this is not how i will leave my queue for others nor do i expect you will either. it's all the same viewing rules for me, the commishener, i don't get any inside dope on what anyone is doing.
is this what your last statment was about youngroman?

during the draft leaving a queue will be encouraged. remember to make your queue available to your designated pickers as well.

is there anyone who has not used kafenatid's on the clock. there shouldn't be right. i don't need to go over all the details of how it works.? queueing and picking.
i will say to double check your picks are correct and on the right team, there are a lot of "x. williams" out there.

Hi!

I am from Hungary. I am fifth in the pick order, that is a fortunate case, because it is directly before youngroman, so we will not stop the drafting process for a long time.

I don't like leaving a queue, because sometimes it is necessary to change the draft strategy (eg: when start the season of center hunting:).

The drafting time in Hungary is between 2pm and 6am. It is not absolutely good for me, tipically I go to bed at midnight here(at 5pm EST). I would like to ask all managers to help me having a possibility of choosing before 5pm EST. In this case the process can continue until 11pm (during the night here). If I am in queue after 5pm, we will loose six hours..

i'm in taiwan but have used kafenatid in the past without holding up drafts. either i stay up a bit late to pick or pack in the night with queue made. it helps i make 2 picks together because then it's a long break and i can anticipate when it'll be my turn.

I'd prefer to start the draft as late as possible. So much stuff happens in preseason that can really screw up your draft. Injuries. Guys getting cut or demoted, etc. Much better than having to wait at the end. And if by some odd reason our draft gets bogged down, it's much ebtter to speed it up at the end where those guys are typically the first to be thrown back anyhow.

last year this draft took just short of ten days. the clock won't start untill the 14th given that we should finish by the 24th. the league starts on the 28th and i want to have the draft results in at least a day ahead of time to give you all a chance to set your rosters. 3 days grace is a comfortable buffer for me and if i get the results in promptly you have ampl time to set rosters. 3 days is not going to change the top picks in my opinion. injuries are an equal risk to everyone. by the time we get to the bottom picks most of the preseason is already over.

10 days!!!! My God I hope not. It should be easily accomplished in no longer than 7 days IMM. The end caps have two picks in a row. I realize we have some Europeans, etc. who are on a huge time zone difference, but still it shouldn't take 10 days.

Injuries are a risk to everyone, indeed. But the person or two who would pick a guy in the first round the day he goes down would have really appreciated waiting? I mean you gotta start sometime, but I'd rather start as late as possible then zip through things. Others may not share my feelings though and that's fine. I'll do whatever the league wants. Just wanted to put in my two cents in case others felt the same.

We have 15 players or so to draft right? Man we could even get it done in 5 days. With just 12 players...10 days...ugh that would be gut-wrenching to wait on. For example, G20 has 20 managers. 6 rounds 120 picks. But all 20 diff managers and none in a row. If you count the end caps as one then you have 10 managers to go 15 rounds. I sitll think 7 days max, but it is what it is. Again, it's no biggie, jsu tike to keep the draft moving with as much info as possible.

all true in a perfect world. but..
the RIHC took 8 days last year and expects 8 days this year.
my AAA took 9 3/4 days last year.
i'd rather everyone gets a good chance to make their pick hence the 8 hour clock, which is standard across the RIHC. i work out of a company truck that is online but i imagine others are not so lucky. construction sites rarely have internet access, just an example. even though i have mobile access one of my jobs can easily take me 4 hours in which i don't have a chance to check things. so shortening the clock, while it may become nessacary, isn't a preferable option IMO.

My guess is that even 6 won't do at this point. It looks like most are making timely picks. The longer the clock, the more it hurts the managers doing what they are supposed to do. We all may have a pick where we just can't make it in a timley fashion. But 8 hours i akin to not having a clock at all. I think we have to be sensitive ot the Euro managers, but 8 is just overkill. As an aside, G20 gets 8 hours max for their whole draft--max of 3 hrs per pick. It works out really well. Not saying we need to do that for this league--simply a comparison.

And I think Guru's point in the email is well taken. The longer the clock, the more time people will take between picks. Any thoughts on changing it to maybe 6?

we are at 1:38 per pick, projecting to finish on the 25th.
not to say i won't change it to 6 hours, i'm thinking if things still look slow 20 hrs from now i will change it around 5-6:00pm before the sleep break at 11:00pm. that gives everyone 14 hours from the time of the Clock Change Notice Email to realize the implications, plus this notice.

We've wasted the entire day waiting on Aggy yet again. 8 hours. Then after he times out, there is the end cap and then he's up again. I propose that we move it to 6 hrs immediately. Then skip him again if he comes up and hasn't made his previous pick. Then on Monday drop it to 4 hrs max.

"Those picking at the endpoints do not get a double clock. In addition, if anyone is already in arrears for a pick when their next pick is due, they do not necessarily get a second clock period. This will be subject to Commissioner discretion."

from the RIHC rules guru has reposted over the years.
my discretion is he has had enough time to make all his picks.

Does that mean that after threespleens makes his picks you are going to skip over Aggy in R #7? I am in favor of that.

If Aggy had offered an explanation after his first timeout I don't think there would be a problem, but he hasn't said anything. That's not right.

It' amazing how fast the draft goes when there is a shorter time limit. Not that I like for people to time out, but you'll notice picks flying off as they race to pick befor that perosn does and that person tends to also pick quickly if not that time then from then on. Also Qs start getting left. Please knock this clock down from 8 hours. I didn't even get to pick today. We should be picking a minimum of twice per day. Wiggs we had our draft flying last year didn't we!!! Last to start. First to finish. Don't even remember people even getting skipped.

no, you are totally right, we were getting 3 and 4 picks in a day. People using the queue. I have used a queue for every pick, i think i should have been on the clock less then a minute total this draft. I dont think i have picked 1 time for myself, yet I sit at a computer 12 hours a day and I have also never picked for anyone else using their queue.

i know it's frustrating waiting but we are on schedule. 1:22 per pick projected to finish late friday the 23rd as i write.
while i personally could probably handle a 4 hr clock i don't see a reason to go there in terms of just finishing the draft in time, which as commish is really my only goal and at this point i am confident of acomplishing.
i have not heard anyone speak out against a 6 hour clock so i can change it to speed things a little.
anyone else?

113: 6 hrs is fine by me if the same person/people aren't slowing us up and in general picks are being mad ein a timely manner. But for me, it' smore than jsut getting done in time, but not having to sit around wiaitng for people to pick. I usually don't start filling in Qs until it's jsut a few picks before me.

Anyone think I reached big time on Mayo? I was trying to get a gut feeling on what he'd produce. Some places I looked didn't even have him ranked. Another looked to be right there while others looked to be more of a reach. In the end I felt that it was a good fit for me...for now. Had no intentions of getting him, but my planned players are being snatched right in front of me and my q was destroyed.

I thought it was ther first real "reach" of the draft. Some of his preseason action has been great!; though some nights he has struggled. If he gets consistant it'll be a great pick. He was on my list for a look next time around.

that starts anouther topic.
i'll be setting the waiver period to last 3 days into the regular season. the intent for this is standard but commishes need to know what they are doing to set it up right, i hope i have learned enough from my mistakes. you will see a longer waiver period set in the first few days but after the initial period is over it will be set back to the standard 3 days.

[133] In the RIHC, all undrafted players will be put on waivers for 2 days immediately after the draft results are entered and finalized. There will be no extended waiver period at the beginning of the season.

Not sure what is meant by "the intent for this is standard"

i think it was done like that the first year i played in a AA. then the next years when i commished assumed and tried to do the same thing but messed it up, like i said its tricky.
and i know we do it in a private points league so i could be mixing up league settings again.
