Season starts tomorrow night, so looking forward to a great year. Kudos again to everyone for getting the draft done and I don't think we had any missed picks. We slowed a bit towards the middle of the draft, but knocked out the last 5 rounds in less than two days I think.
If anyone wants to post their draft strategies or things they learned, feel free. Some were probably new to this format of play and the slow drafting style, so share your experiences. Anybody feel they got some steals or maybe reached too much on certain players? Anyone wish you could trade teams with another manager?? |

Looking forward to the season but at times it was "slow draft"
Having only played roto once before--just picked what seemed the "best available" at the time based partly on Yahoo rankings which included turnovers.
After getting well into the middle rounds realized only one shot blocker and injured PG, so picks 8-12 seemed a little like reaches but tried to fill in.
Brook Lopez was a reach for sure.
The last three picks were to try to cover all the injured players I drafted--mainly PG,SG, SF type players and a few assists which looked a little weak with the injuries.
Congrats to Haverad who seemed to always draft just the guy I wanted in front of me on the odd rounds.

Smith is eligible.
CJ, Hughes is not eligible for IS since he was picked up as a free agent and has not been on your roster for 10 days. You must drop a player immediately.

CJ, only Giniboli is currently eligible on your roster for IS designation. Hughes is not eligible until 11/19 if he has not played in a game by then, and Stuckey is day to day and expected to play tonight. His one game missed on Monday was expected then, but you did not place him on IS until yesterday when his status was expected to play tonight. If there is any gray area, all teams should avoid picking up a player unless it is confirmed in this thread or the RIHC IS thread.

And per the commisioner's note, in the future I will drop any player from a team that was picked up improperly and not give a choice to decide which player to drop. This is only fair since a manager could wait until game time and then decide which player to drop while obtaining the stats from the player improperly picked up.

Oden apparently may play tonight, so Dunleavy who already is IS on RIHC board and missed five games already to IS for me (along with Garcia who was already there) and Oden active(off IS). Can he be used tonight or is there a waiting period??

Oden can be placed in an active slot without the need to drop a player since Garcia and Dunleavy are both IS eligible.

Can I put Redd and Richardson into IS? Redd has missed 5 straight games, and according to Yahoo Sports "Wed, Nov 12 G Jason Richardson had exploratory arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Wednesday. No structural damage was found and Richardson will miss about a week."

Camby is now active, but I replaced him with the newly injured (and hopefully not done for the season) Gerald Wallace. After being relatively injury free to begin the season, I've had a bit of a run lately with the injuries.

you looked good there for a while. as CJ's 90 game head start comes down to 0 cj should fall a bit. i know i should take 2 points off him myself, stl and 3s. i think he could fall as far as all of you tied in 4th. 3 way tie today. nice.

Season ends tonight, good job by WB making a big run the last month to claim the title. I have some thoughts to share on this team and how the season unfolded, so I will post something along those lines. Feel free to post your reflections as well including draft selections (good and bad) moves that paid off and anything else you want to add.

It was interesting playing roto style but I still never did get the feel about categories and players until probably too late in the season. I am still not sure when to make a change to improve.
I figured I survived considering my top choice Brand was out; 2nd coice Baron awful; 5th pick Dunleavy out; 6th pick Oden out much of the season. I also should have looked at free throw % before drafting I guess since I was at the bottom by a large margin all year and did not even have Howard.

it was a good year. i thought i was in troble when jefferson went down. i am a fan of labron. definitly my biggest advantage. i don't think i had a huge steal in the draft. just alot of guys who performed as expected or a little better maybe, it was a health thing more that won it. other than jefferson my big guys were healthy all year making the big difference.
good season. i played in the AAA league and did well enough in that one. so i may move up to the big leagues next year but not because of this first place. so i assume i will see harverad next year but i don't know how guru handles it all in this situation.

Here's my recap of the season:
I was happy with my draft, but knew I had two overall weaknesses coming out: 3s and assists. I also had some pretty lofty projections for a couple guys that I had targetted that did not measure up. After taking Amare with the #4 overall pick, I went for a solid all around contributer in Rudy Gay for my 2nd pick. He had provisions to average 20 pts and 9 rebs while also adding 1 stl, blk and 3pt per game. That would make him a top 20 player, but instead he fell short at 19 and 6 and didn't provide the blocks I expected. Not terrible, but not worth of a 2nd rounder much less a 3rd.
I was fortunate that Yao kept sliding, and other managers where obviously worried about his longevity since he has missed 61 games the past two seasons. Amazingly he held up for 77 games this year and was a great pick at this spot. My real all-star this year was Gerald Wallace who I nabbed in round 4. Except for almost dying and spending a week in the hospital, he had a solid all around year and finished #19 overall. While his numbers were down some in a few categories from last season, he has improving his shooting the past few years and contributes in every category. His steal and block numbers are nice from the SF position.
Devin Harris had a good year too and pretty much was as expected. Scoring and assists were a little higher at 21 and 7 ( I had him pegged at 19 and 6) and he had decent steal and 3pt numbers. Of the next several draftees, I was happy with Josh Howard, Bibby and Marvin Williams. Bibby was a great source of 3s and Marvin stepped up his game early in the season before missing a long stretch of games with the back injury at the end.
Since I did not grab an elite pg in the first 4 rounds, I made an attempt to attack the category by comittee. Harris in round 5, Bibby in 7, Udrich and Jameer Nelson in 9 and 10. This worked for a good portion of the season, but Nelson's season ending injury and Udrich missing games and being subpar for much of the season brought me way down. Hilario was my steal in round 11 and Delonte West gave me a great boost with my next to last pick.
I decided to cash in on getting Yao in rnd 3 and sent him and Haslem packing for Camby and Rasheed early in the season. I expected some missed games from the two players I recieved, but figured Yao would even that out and I was gaining a nice chunk of 3s and blocks in this deal. Instead, Yao and Haslem accounted for 11 missed games compared to 36 by Camby/Sheed. My last ditch effort to recover assists was a trade of Josh Howard for Derrick Rose. This definitely helped but was too little too late.
All together, my season was humming along, first place until just after the break, and then the bottom fell out. Amare loss probably accounted for me losing between 5-7 overall points, and combined with losing Nelson who was having an all-star year, a ton of missed games by the rest and subpar play from key players I was done. Oh well, I will be ready for the challenge again next year.
