0 Subject: RIHC - AA qualifying league signups, 2009-2010

Posted by: Perm Dude
- [154552311] Fri, Sep 25, 2009, 10:42

This league will be the first AA league for the RIHC league. We use the same settings as the RIHC League:

Roster Positions (12/3/2): PG, SG, G, G, PF, SF, F, F, C, C, Util, Util, BN, BN, BN, DL, DL
Stat Categories (8): FG%, FT%, 3PTM, PTS, REB, AST, ST, BLK
Max games per position: 84
Roster moves: Daily

12 managers needed total. Gurupies are most welcome, but new managers are encouraged to sign up as well--it is a good way to be introduced to the RIHC league specifically, and Gurupie hoops competition in general.

If you are in RIHC or in one of the RIHC AAA leagues, please refrain from signing up for any AA league unless there is trouble filling it.

Some managers have already expressed an interest in AA. Please confirm here, with your email address as well:

Hi,
I have playing Ultimate Hoops for years with TSN. After the disaster in Ultimate Football this year, I don't wish to return to TSN and I am looking for another Fantasy option.
I am interested in details, costs, options, etc.. in joining one of your Leagues.

Thanks

Welcome aboard, Stephen.

We usually draft on using the On the Clock program at Kafenatid -- that nominal cost is usually paid by the commish (in this case, me).

The league will be hosted on Yahoo, so there will be no league fee. I see that Yahoo is offering Statracker for free now, which is awesome.

I'm going to go ahead and send out some league invites. If you end up going into another league (for example, if you are on a waiting list for a AAA league and you get in), just delete your team from this league and send me an email so I can invite the next guy in.

I'll join the alternate list if someone drops out. I'm happier doing it this way where I won't take a spot from someone who deserves it. My knowledge of BB is scanty but I'd like to improve it and it'll get me to watch the game on Rogers Sportsnet. I might not beat anyone but PermDude but I'd surely be active!

Has Bob McAdoo retired yet? He would be my #1 choice.

I'll be sending a few more out later today. The league is still very fluid because of the other leagues still filling.

Any long-time Gurupies should try to get in now to reserve a space, even if you have to drop out later.

If you are a competitive manager, it does look like the H2H keeper league referenced here could use another manager.

Rosters are entered and waiver wire is set (reverse of draft order).

Click on your team, then tomorrow's date to see your roster. Let me know ASAP if there are any errors.

Waiver wire is open for claims. All FAs are now on waivers until the 26th.

I think you also need to add 2 bench spots for injured players.

Good catch--I gave him the wrong Curry. Just fixed it.

I used the RIHC settings for the number of bench spots. There is no longer an INJ spot in Yahoo Hoops.

That was one of the best drafts I can remember- we started after RGIH and both AAA leagues but finished before all three- We also have a first class commissioner- and are not throttled with Fantrax- I am ecstatic to be in this AA league- thank you everyone especially Perm Dude.

Just want to second Valkyrie's comments, thanks to everyone for their attntiveness and a special thanks to PD for commishing.

Looking at the rosters (and team owners) it looks to be a very competitive league and I'm looking forward to the season. Good Luck all.

Do we want to start a thread, I wouldn't mind hearing everyone's thoughts on the draft results.

And I'll agree that everyone did an excellent job on keeping the draft moving. The clock was never turned on, but it didn't come into play.

I think what we did last year was enable 5 "bench" spots--3 generally available spots and 2 strictly for injured players pursuant to the RIHC injury guidelines.

Yeah, Addicted just pointed that out to me. I'm going to have to think this through a bit to enable a manual system of sorts. Yahoo doesn't allow any spots to be added after the "Begin Season" button has been hit.

I'll probably have something sorted out in an hour or two.

OK, let me know if this is unworkable:

The RIHC is using an "injury slot" to help manage injured NBA players on a fantasy roster despite the NBA no longer using an IL. Here's the thread in question.

Since we cannot add slots to the teams at this point, I will maintain a virtual IS for each team, 2 for each team.

Here's how it will work:

If you have a player who is injured that you want to put on your IS, post on the Yahoo site, on the RIHC AA chatter thread, and email me. This will give everyone a heads-up about the player in two places, and give me a kick-in-the-pants to update the IS for you. Then drop the player from your roster and pick up your replacement player.

Note that if you don't want to replace the player, you can always just carry him on your bench.

I will update the league IS's as necessary, and prod managers to pick back up players who are no longer injured as specified in Guru's thread.

It will be important not to pick up players who are on a team's IS (they will just be listed as Free Agents on Yahoo), but I'll be checking the league site daily so hopefully we'll catch any mistakes when the occur.

How's all this sound? Sorry for the extra steps, but I don't mind the extra work needed if that's what it takes to ensure continuity with the other RIHC leagues.

I suggest that for a player to be on IR the waiving manager must post his claim on the Trade forum under league/trading block/ maybe under positions available or anywhere else conveniant there. That way we all have a current public record of who is on the IR and we can relieve PD of some of the burden of following this.
If a player is posted there everyone is on notice not to claim him- if he isn't posted there he is free game for anyone to pick up.

Not sure you can put players on the trading block that you do not own. I'm not sure you can't either. I'm fine with keeping a manual list or everytime you make a change just post it on the league message board or here.

Can the commish manually remove players from a team? I'm sure it won't be an issue with this group of managers but if somebody picks up a player on another teams IR then this could be helpful.

Yeah, a commish can add & drop players, and change a roster as needed (this is helpful is a manager can't access Yahoo, for instance--a commish can manually make changes for him).

I am sorry PermDude and JayDog but there is no way Al Jefferson for Chambers is anywhere near fair when the #10 team is giving up Jeffersonm to the #1 team. Can either one of you provide any justification other than cash under the table (LOL) for the equality of this trade- I Jefferson out for the next 3 months and I don't know it yet?

The trade was offered to me and I actually had to think fairly
long and hard about it. If you actually analyze the stats it is
much more even than you think. Jefferson gives points,
rebounds, and blocks over Chalmers. Chalmers gives all
percentage stats, 3's, assists, and steals over Jefferson.
Chalmers is someone who doesn't score much, but does really
well in the rest of the stats. I think if you look at their stats side
by side, you'll realize that its a pretty even deal. If you look at
Yahoo's ranking, it actually has Chalmers higher than Jefferson
(61 vs. 87), which would indicate that overall Chalmers is a more
valuable player.

Not sure what you are looking at Jau but trade evaluator on Yahoo ranks Jefferson 13 and Chalmers 105. Player evaluator ranks Chalmers as the 25th PG- with Cook still slowed by injuries and Jefferson the 9th PF (also center eligeable) and still improving from his off season surgery??
Yes chalmers averages 2 more assists and .5 more steals a game but that's about it- with less than zero upside . I hope you justification was not a serious attempt to say this is fair LOL.
I would be ok with it if Permdude were #1 and you were #10, just not with the topDog getting that much of a one sided deal.

This year Jefferson's rankings are nowhere near years past. Those rankings you see are for previous years, Valkyrie. In fact, this year they have been very similar in rankings (click on last week, last month, and this season and you'll see what I mean).

Both players bring different things to the table, and my needs and jaydog's are opposite right now--he needs rebounds because he's lost Oden, and I need assists, steals, and treys.

I've got big guys (5 guys with C eligibility), plus Landy, Lee, Scola and Villanueva as PFs, and jaydog has three guys with PG eligibility. Seems like we are meeting each other's needs.

The rankings you are looking at on Yahoo are the original,
preseason rankings. If you look at the rankings based on this
years stats, Chalmers is 61 and Jefferson 87.

Chalmers ranks as the 18th best PG and Jefferson the 40th best
PF and the 27th best C.

The more I think of it, the more it looks like I'm actually getting
the raw end of the deal. If you are going to try and sway the
league, please do it using the right statistics.

Sorry guys I don't ever use Yahoo except for this league so I did not know that Yahoo doesn't use current rankings for trade evaluation or in player ranking sections?
Still I think this is a ridiculous trade-it takes players a while to come back from an ACL injury not to mention a new PG, Love being out etc. He will only get better- I doubt Chalmers will continue to get anywhere near 30 minutes a game- This year Chalmers is averaging 4.1 Assists and 1.6 steals as a PG tos Jefferson's 2.2 assists and 1.3 steals as a center-
Not really sure what good stats of Chalmers we are looking at here?
Whatever- in any event it is just the type of Also Ran/Contender trade I despise when I am also a contender. Look if two knowledgeable owners honestly think this is a fair trade who am I a mere harmed competitor to dispute it- I respect both of you so I don't need to understand it I'll just let it go. LOL

I don't like it either but I am 100% confident that the trade is on the up and up. I do find it hard to believe that Perm couldn't have gotten a better player than Chalmers had he asked around a bit. I know I received no offers.

Can't blame Valk for being suspicious, Jefferson was an average 14th pick while Chalmers was 84th in all RIHC leagues. It does seem a bit suspicious on the surface.

Please let me clarify- I am not suspicious of real impropriety- I just think that as a 10th place team PermDude doesn't care as much as
Jaydog does as a #1 team. Since Permdude claims to have really looked at it I'll take him at his word and accept it- Different people certainly can have differing opinions of value and I don't have to agree with it or even understand it to accept it. I sure hope I don't come in second to Jaydog in this league though.

I don't know why your so confident that you don't have a chance. I
now have Arenas staring at a lengthy if not season ending injury,
Carmelo and Dampier are injured, and much of my team
underperforming. It'll be interesting to see how the end of this

Actually Jay I am still annoyed at the Jefferson-Chalmers deal. As I predicted Chalmers lost his starting job, is playing less than 20 minutes a game now- I still do not know where any of the numbers you quoted came from - To me it was a first rounder for a 4th round one dimentional (steals) player between the top team and an also ran. An equivalent deal would be someone giving you deron Williams for Arenas now which I wouldn't be surprised to see go through LOL.
I will wind up second (again as I predicted).
