0 Subject: Gurupie 20 2009-10: Supplemental Draft discussion

Posted by: Guru
- [330592710] Sun, Oct 18, 2009, 13:19

I will activate the draft at kaefnatid.net momentarily. The clock will not start until Monday morning.

This Supplemental Draft will be comprised of 6 rounds. The draft will be in inverse order of finish (lottery exception) and will not snake. For purposes of the draft, keeper picks were designated as rounds 1-6, so this draft will be labeled as rounds 7-12.

We will proceed with a 4 hour clock. There will be a clock moratorium each night from 1am until 7am Eastern time. Picks can continue to be made during the moratorium period, but the clock will be paused. In addition, there will be a cumulative clock of 8 hours for each manager. This will be imposed subject to Commissioner discretion, in the event that the draft is not moving at an acceptable pace, particularly if one drafter is chronically late with picks.

The draft is configured for only G, F and C. If you draft a player who is eligible for multiple positions, just choose the position designation that seems most appropriate. This is only for the purposes of displaying the draft results, and has no bearing on your eventual usage options.

Here are my ground rules for selecting from a queue: If you have a queue and make it available, and it is your turn to pick, I will make your pick if I'm around - unless you have provided specific instructions via email or in this thread. Therefore, do not make (or leave) your queue available if you do not want it used. Even if you have no designated pickers set up, if your queue is marked available, I will be able to use it when it is your turn.

You can specify that only the top name on your queue is to be displayed, or that the entire queue is to be shown. If you make the entire queue visible, I'll certainly check for any emails that might provide additional instructions. You can also authorize a DP to make a selection "free-form" (i.e., typing in the name, rather than selecting from a preset list.) Presumably, you would elect this only if you provide specific instructions to your DP(s).

Regardless, be aware that your queue is not visible to me or to any other designated picker until it is your turn to pick. And if you do not make it available, then no one will be able to use it, regardless of whether you have any players in it.

Please refrain from mentioning any undrafted player in this thread. You can use this thread to alert others about your availability, to request volunteers to accept a queue, to raise questions about draft rules or mechanics, to solicit trade offers or announce trades, etc.

I have coded all of the trades into Kafenatid, so it should automatically proceed in the proper sequence. If you think there has been an error, please speak up quickly.

After selecting your draft pick at kafenatid, please pick up your player at the ESPN game site as well. This will assist the draft by keeping the universe of available players as current as possible.

Yeah, just got back. Give me a little bit while I cross off the keepers. Will make picks before 6:00 pm EST.

I make 2 picks, then CC makes 1, then I will set my queue for 2 more.

All 4 picks made. Was hoping to get Ariza as well, instead of Chris Andersen, but I still like loading up on C and getting Barbosa.

Nice B6. That's a pretty sweet quartet to make a run at it this year. Props to you!

I'm glad to get Chandler with my 2nd pick.....got Harden for some (hopefully) long term value, and get a much-needed big man to be respectable this year.

Yeah, I am happy. I definitely considered Chandler as well, I think he will be a good pickup for you. I would love to know if Coldwater would have taken Barbosa or Sheed if I had taken Ariza before one of those 2 guys.

I couldn't decide between Curry or Marvin. Marvin has been a keep for me since I drafted him #1 overall(over Chris Paul) in the '05 draft. That has been a nightmare that just won't go away. So in an effort to make it go away, I decided to go with Curry. It would be my luck that Marvin finally realizes his potential this year. We'll have to wait and see! I like Curry although his PT is up in the air right now. I thought he'd be drafted before my #12 pick overall.

Really stoked to get Jennings at 15. If he could've passed the college entrance exam he most likely would've been the #1 in pick in 2010. He'll shoot under 40% this year which is kinda scary.

bmd, it was Sessions or Jennings for me. MIL has really worked with him. His preseason had been quite the dud until the last game, but he'll right the ship. He could be electric.

See post 12...

Outside one 10 minute meeting, my schedule should be open.

Trying to figure out if I think that is an early pick for McGrady or not. Can see that rfs is trying to parlay him into a future draft pick...as I would have done to...if I had any freaking picks...sigh.

Through the first 35 picks:
Two owners have the potential to time out on their next pick, based on the cumulative clock of 8 hours.

Species has used 4:49 of clock (4 picks)
Pistol Pete has used 5:33 of clock (2 picks)

Others who have used more than 2 hours of cumulative time:
Pete N. 3:30 (2 picks)
Perm Dude 2:20 (1 pick)

Given the sluggish overall pace of the draft, the cumulative clock will probably be enforced.

I've been working on these picks for some time here. First I had to figure out who was still available in this league! Unfortunately, I'm not real excited about my choices at this point, and I feel these two picks are pretty important. I'll have them made - hopefully soon.

Ugh, I hate taking a guy like Krstic that has only small upside when there are so very solid younger guys still out there. However, after picking Jennings and Wright with my 1st 2 picks I figured it was time to get a guy that isn't going to lose his starting job. Wish Turiaf would've slipped since having 2+ blocks a game is pretty huge.

Well when you don't need rebounds Gooden is close to worthless. Krstic is pretty similar on the worthless scale(as 95% of the guys drafted from now until the end of the draft will be) but I need blocks more than rebounds.

Him being on Dallas is going to hurt his stats more than help. He's going to fight for rebounds and points with the entire team. Kidd, Howard, Nowitzki, Marion, and Dampier. I guess if Dallas jacks up a bunch of 3's a night he could benefit as being the desiginated offensive rebounder.

That's the first time I've ever seen Guru's posts compared to Pulp Fiction.......

Mike D - Is that really true? I often feel like the words of Guru are comparable to a shot of adrenaline straight to my heart. :-)

Hahaha. A true Gurupie.

Is this draft still going on? I'm going to have to leave a Q soon.......since BMD is milking this pick.

Gotta take off for last football practice. DP'd PermDude, Guru and rfs.

If things take off and we get to the last two pick (and I'm not back), please don't make them.

A Jeff Foster sighting! I guess this is the part of the draft where there is a run on slow big white guys...

Actually I shouldn't tease. The guy doesn't really have it anymore, but for about 3 seasons he was singlehandedly able to get a manager 3-4 points in the offensive rebounds category.

So....who likes their chances this year? I'm satisfied with all my players except for my final shot-blocking scrub.

This thing is still going on?!?

I love getting Robin Lopez with my last pick. I am hoping that sometime this season his brother will feel sorry for him and they will pull one of those switcheroos where they both pretend to be each other and Brook goes to Phoenix.

Sweet plan.

I think all teams are fully loaded (whatever that means...)

Since the league has technically been active during the draft, free agents are not subject to waivers. Dropped players will be subject to 1 day waivers, as usual.

I'd sign him for sure, but he'd have to make the name change first.

Lebron won't be changing his name anytime soon. :-) My team theme is Headache. It has been this way for years with Randolph and Artest. J.R. Smith joined as a keeper this year and brought Telfair with him. Woo! Woo!
