there are two questions being voted on in the papa league. we will follow their lead for the first question as it doesn't make a difference to me-same day or next day insertions post pick up.
as for the second question we will stick with the traditional snake draft and see how it goes for those boys and maybe i'll adopt it next year if they are happier with one of the other draft styles. right now the vote looks pretty evenly devided between the 3 styles and i don't see anything different happening if we voted too.
just wanted to state this before i went and figured out the draft choice order.

I might like to see waiver wire pickups eligible the day they are acquired since they have been out but free agents not eligible until the next day to prevent excessive trading. I would also like to to see a minimal holding period for any pickup whether waiver or FA.

there is no distinction on the site between waivers and free agents, it is just "roster changes daily or tomorrow" this would have to be a supervised action. any minimum holding period would have to be manually administered as well. as i feel personally resposible for all the current roster checks and manual administration asscociated with the injured list adding more tasks is more headache than i like.

i should mention that we will be following the injury slot rules the RIHC has been following for the last few years. 2 injury slots on your roster that can be filled and emptied as you have qualified injuries.
if there is anyone here who is unsure or hasn't played under these rules let me know and i will dig up and find the post with the rules laid out.

when are looking at starting the draft?
13WonderB

      Wed, Oct 06, 2010, 12:11
i would like to start the draft at the latest by oct 12 with the season tip off on the 26th this year. past experience is it takes 12-13 days for a slow draft/less than 2 weeks as far as i can remember.i will start pushing with emails as we approch the 12th if there is still administration work to be done - draft order, league/kafenatid sign ins.
i will not halt any process. when we are done with the draft order and everyone is signed in i will open the draft. if we are early i don't need to start the clock right away. the clock will be started by the end of the first round at the latest even if we are still early. the clock can be started any time though and you will have ample notification by email and here. the likely scenario is there is no clock for the first day or so.

please be ready for the first few rounds to be slow. i am definitly not giving you permission to be the slow person, please make your picks in a timely fasion. however this always happens in the first couple rounds and there is always complaints. the middle and late rounds pick up speed as people get in the groove and start leaving lists in their Q's

Good Luck
ian.

Nene wasn't added because of some confusion about whether or not he has a last name. the site he pulled the list from didn't list a last name. off the top of my head i don't know of another player that plays around with his name so we should be good.

The thing for me this year is that i want to have some fun following my team. I could have gone for a safer pick than Collison, but as my hoops time is not as great as previous years, i'm quite looking forward to having the expectation of someone like Collison throwing up the occasional 20/15 game.

Fun, fun, fun!

This is definitely been one of the slower drafts that i have been a part of. its early and things do pick up but we are only doing a round a day. Almost no picks have been made by queues (or in less than an hour). It seems normally after the first few days drafts go at 2 rounds/day but we have been going at half that so far.

I don't see what the issue is. We're now 5 full rounds ahead of the other RIHC drafts, because they have not even started yet.

I live in the UK, and i would leave a queue if there were only 2 or 3 picks to me, otherwise it's really no biggie for me to wait until the morning. That still means i pick before most of you guys are even awake.

the pace is a little slower. 1 1/2 rounds per day has been normal with an 8 hour clock in the past. we are running closer to only one a day. my main concern is finishing before opening day with maybe a couple days to spare for me to get the results in.
the site has a projection clock and it figures we will wrap it up on the 24th. we just had a few quick picks so that has come down from projecting the 25th after yesterday.
anyway, there is always an 'incedent' where the clock runs a little long like yesterday, nothing new. gave me lots of time to second guess my pick.

I am alredy second guessing all my picks, but I find it hard to imagine we would not finish before the 24th as later rounds tend to usually go more quickly. I will be out of town and not near a computer real often from the late on the 21st through the 24th so hoping we finish earlier. Is there a waiver period when the draft is done for all non drafted players?

I wish Arenas would just smarten up. He's a wicked player when he wants to be. Just leave the guns at home and don't fake injuries!

Bogut was a tough one--I had him last year and really liked what I got. However, with the injury just could not pull the trigger on him and took another flyer instead with Cousins--probably way too early.

Yeah, I would have taken Cousins if he was there instead of Bogut, so twloves, it's all your fault.

I would have had Cousins and Swish would have had Bogut.

That being said, I think 7th round is a reasonable point to take a risk on a player with Bogut's talents. And Swish, I like the McGee pick alot, I had him high on my queue

Good Drafting. Good to be done early. How do we get our players to our team or is that automatically done by the commissioner? I am leaving town and will not be near computer very often for a few days.

I assume we will use the Yahoo waiver period or it will be posted on at the league site.

I assume we can put players on IS now if they are officially out for at least a week of the offical season and not day to day or expected to be ready for opening of the season.

you may immediatly declare your known injuries and pick from the waiver wire. i have one myself - dalembert.
players are on waivers for one day so, at this point i think you will get your players saterday?? i'm a little rusty on the timing of waivers but i think you have untill friday night EST to enter them.

What about Murphy? Up until yesterday, he was out indefinitley but now reports are saying he might be ready for the third game.

How do I do this? I can drop these 3 guys and pick up 3 new ones? 4 if Murphy is allowed?

And then when do I have to pick them back up by? A week after they play their first game back?

Mike Miller on IS for me - broken thumb as per multiple reports yesterday.

Roberts - there are only 2 IS slots on your team, so you can only pick up 2 replacement players. These are really just bench slots that are only used for IS eligible players.

Roberts: we will be following the rules of the RIHC league we all hope we are in next year.
and a good refresher for everyone.

Here are the basic rules (copied from prior years):

Roster Positions (12/3/2): PG, SG, G, G, PF, SF, F, F, C, C, Util, Util, BN, BN, BN, DL, DL
Stat Categories (8): FG%, FT%, 3PTM, PTS, REB, AST, ST, BLK
Max games per position: 84
Roster moves: Daily

I figured it would be good to recap the rules regarding the injury slots:
Three bench slots are available to hold any player. Two additional bench slots will be enabled, but are restricted as “injury slots”, hereafter abbreviated as “IS”.

An NBA player shall be eligible to fill an IS if he is listed in any “informed” source as being injured more seriously than “day-to-day”. Examples of acceptable information sources include (but are not limited to):
RotoWire
RotoWorld
RotoTimes
ESPN
NBA.com
Newspaper stories (citing facts, not speculation).

Once a player appears in an NBA game, he is no longer eligible to fill an IS, even if a published source fails to remove his listing. When a player is no longer IS eligible, the team shall have a limited amount of time to remove that player from the IS, as defined below.

If a manager wishes to move a player into an IS but cannot find a confirming source, he may request that the Commissioner approve the designation. The Commissioner shall use his best judgment in making such a determination.

If any manager believes that another team has improperly moved a player into an IS, he may file a protest with the Commissioner. If any manager disagrees with a Commissioner ruling, he may request a league vote. Six votes shall be required to overturn any Commissioner ruling related to an IS.

Each Wednesday, the Commissioner shall review all rosters to assure that any filled injury slots are appropriate. In the event that an IS is improperly filled, the Commissioner will notify the manager of the violation via the email link at the Yahoo site. The notified manager will have 48 hours to correct the roster or to provide a satisfactory explanation. If a breach remains uncorrected 48 hours after notice, the Commissioner shall have the authority to drop a bench player in order to bring the roster into conformance. The player dropped will be based upon the Commissioner’s judgment as to the best interests of the impacted team.

The Commissioner shall have the latitude to extend the time for curing a breach if he knows that the manager is unreachable and/or unavailable to make the adjustment.

No player which is in an IS slot may be placed in a starting slot on any day unless the bench has been cleared of that injury slot, or unless another player is eligible to replace that player in the vacated IS. In the event of a violation, the Commissioner may elect to void any stats generated by improperly activated player.

As before, no player may be picked up as a free agent and immediately placed in an IS. Free agent additions are only IS eligible 10 days after pickup, unless the player has appeared in an NBA game after the pickup and the IS eligibility occurred thereafter.

roberts;
you may declare only up to two players eligible. do not DROP anyone unless you want to be completly rid of them.
simply declare here as per the rules above and go and pick up a player you want.

there is an I.S. thread up on the main basketball board. we can use this now for any new injuries. if you have already posted here than dont worry about it.
only post if your guy has not been mentioned. if an owner from another league has posted your player than you may follow without posting yourself.

Not much to say my team is a bust so far. If someone shoots over40% from the field I'm ecstatic (sp). Lebron is fine with scoring 15 points a night and Bosh is playing like a 6th round pick.

I've got a PS and it's probably one of the best purchases I've made. Now to be honest I don't play a lot games on it but it's great for streaming movies from your computer and saving videos on the hd for my little boy and the fact it's a blue ray player. I guess the most important factor for most though is what games you like but I know the PS3 library has grown and GT5 looks really nice.

Today is the highest ranking I've had this season. Long climb from being in last place after the first couple of months. Hoping to maintain as I'm pretty sure this is my ceiling.

"Is this my league?" Yea--you seemed to ignore the rest of us all year. Great job and good luck next year. The battle in the middle over the last month was interesting.
