RIHC AA #2 Managers - You are each invited (although not required) to post your general reflections on the completed draft. Comments may be as detailed or as general as you wish. As a catalyst, free free to comment on any of the following:

1. What was your plan/strategy entering the draft? Were you able to execute as you had planned?

2. What were your favorite picks? Which do you wish you could do over?

3. Looking over all of the teams, which ones do you like the most (other than your own)?

4. What surprised you most about the draft?

5. If you could start over, would you do anything differently?

Non-managers are also welcome to post general comments on the draft, and to raise questions.

this should be fun, even tho i've slipped to AA this year. BLOOKI'S my idol, and you guys let him get d wade at pick 8, and i let him get d lee in rd. 2. my rationale is rd.s 1 and 2, PG, CENTER, but i was forced to take granger. couldn't resist. i like rondo in rd. 2, and in our test league last year, zach led me to 2nd place.so it's on.

1. What was your plan/strategy entering the draft? Were you able to execute as you had planned?
My plan was to pick back to back after missing out on the first few draft spots. Figured this was the quickest way to get 2 good players. I was hoping for Gasol/Nash combo. Got half of it. Reached on Bosh because I already have Lopez on other teams. I definitely picked him 8 spots or so before his ADP, but he also wasn't coming back to me obviously. So I never really consider it a reach if you know the guy won't get back to you and thats who you want. Bosh/Nash gives me great balance and good %'s across the board to start things. My point of view on him in Miami is that his numbers won't be all that different, and his FG% and rebounds will actually go up as the only big guy there and teams can't focus on him. Everyone else seems to think the opposite.

2. What were your favorite picks? Which do you wish you could do over? My favorite picks were OJ Mayo who I've never had and I feel like he's gonna be a good fit. Also like my late sleepers in Blair, Hickson, McRoberts, Ibaka, Udrih and Affalo. Feel like I got a ton of value late.

I hate my Barbosa pick. I think he's a good fit as a player, but I was guard heavy at this point and I should have taken a SF there. I've left myself only one SF in Childress so am gonna have to make a move already. Thankfully thats a pretty easy position to fill.

3. Looking over all of the teams, which ones do you like the most (other than your own)? I always hate this cause I never am good at analyzing peoples drafts. I think I have a different process than most. And nobody ever thinks my draft was good but somehow I am near the top of the standings at year end.

In a league like this I look for a squad with a limited number of question marks and how much folks are relying on those guys who are questions... I like Slowhand's squad cause his big question marks are more like lottery tickets at the end of his draft, so if they don't pan out. No big deal. He's pretty solid and consistent at the top. Similarly I like Blooki's squad. Seems pretty balanced and no glaring holes.

4. What surprised you most about the draft?
Once we got rolling and everyone used to the site, this group absolutely worked Kafenatid... this thing was smoking fast from like the 3rd round on. I'd go to bed after a back to back and wake up and I'm on the clock again! Usually this doesn't happen as efficiently unless its longtime board members who know how to work and text each other... but the new guys did great.

5. If you could start over, would you do anything differently? Not really. Other than pick a SF. Maybe get a few more blocks from somewhere.

1. What was your plan/strategy entering the draft? Were you able to execute as you had planned?
My plan was to completely dominate the draft....mission accomplished.

2. What were your favorite picks? Which do you wish you could do over?
Picking Camby and Baron back to back with picks 48 and 49 was sheer brilliance. The way I see it the odds of both of the getting hurt is very unlikely. If I picked one or the other It would have been guarateed that that player would miss significant time. Taking both makes it a virtual lock that one or the other will stay healty.
Cant say that I really like my Korver pick....but the pickings were very slim for the last pick of the draft.

3. Looking over all of the teams, which ones do you like the most (other than your own)?
Probably have to go with Damoose and Blooki.

4. What surprised you most about the draft?
The pace of the draft didnt surprise me.
They always start slow and then finish fast.
The fact that we startd last of all the RIHC leagues and nearly finished 1st is a bit remarkable.

5. If you could start over, would you do anything differently?
Make sure CJ wasnt so close to my pick and make sure he wasnt able to view my queue...cuz he sure seemed like he was picking all MY guys.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE.

1. What was your plan/strategy entering the draft? Were you able to execute as you had planned?
Depending on where my first pick was I actually had a few different ideas I might have wanted to try. Mostly I wanted to focus on the %. Did not want to pick anyone who had terrible FT%. My other was really based on the picking order and getting the third pick put doing away with the FT% in play. If I was going to be able to get Dwight at the second pick then I would have done this but that was a long shot. I just knew if I was in a place to get Dwight then I was going to forget about the FT% cat.

2. What were your favorite picks? Which do you wish you could do over?
5th and 9th pick I feel have best value…Gino and Crawford. Great % and loads of stat stuffers especially in steals and 3’s. Great FT%. I really feel like I missed Al Jefferson or even Tyreke Evans with my second pick. I took Gerald Wallace and I have never really been a fan of him. I know he will be great but even after the pick I felt like I should have taken Al Jefferson. Will that trade work? Wallace for Jefferson?

3. Looking over all of the teams, which ones do you like the most (other than your own)?
I do not see a real Clear winner and of course I like my team but I also know I am lacking some areas.
Slowhand has a great team IF…the old dogs hold Like Billips, Dirk(Can he still put up stellar numbers) and when he gets em all back from injuries….Jackson, Boozer…..and I think Gasol will be better this year giving a boost.
I like a lot of Blooki’s late round picks…seems like he would take the front guy of my que each time he picked.
Vampire had a roll going with James, Tyreke, Jeffeson, and of course Blake (FT% going to hurt so I could not have taken him unless I had Dwight to go along with it..LOL)
Threespleens Great first two picks but then looking at Kidd….can he put up numbers like last year? If so look out. I just think at some point he and dirk are going to have to tail it off a bit…and Dirk might learn to save some for playoffs rather than throw his heart on the court each night.
Great One has many picks I thought are going to be possibilities of high value if things go like we all predict. Will Andrea Bargnani step it up and increase his numbers with Bosh gone? Love is a great Pick and tons of upside, Nash and Bosh should be solid, but I am not a fan of Devin Harris and Mayo….those picks could be huge for GO or drown him…LOL Also Blair is another where is value could skyrocket with the game I think he will be able to this year with increased min. Affalo and Hickson I think are some of the drafts better valued picks considering the late rounds.

4. What surprised you most about the draft?
Noah went a few rounds before I thought he would. I was watching him but I was not prepared to take him in the third..maybe 4th. Also I got Paul with third pick and very happy with that but really though James would drop to that. Also Rose I thought would have gone a little later in the draft as well.

5. If you could start over, would you do anything differently?
Draft Al Jefferson over Gerald Wallace!

1. What was your plan/strategy entering the draft? Were you able to execute as you had planned?

Get a big and a small and proceed taking the best available guy regardless of position. Yes.

2. What were your favorite picks? Which do you wish you could do over?

I chose 7th slot hoping I would get Deron plus the best available guy snaking back up. I didn't get the memo I needed to pick 5th for that to happen. Lopez at pick 18 I'm very happy with. Kidd is going to make or break my team. He gave me 2 point guards in my first 3 picks. I didn't think he would fall to me at pick 31 since he was drafted 15th, 19th, and 28th in the other leagues.

favorite picks: Lopez, Kidd, Hilario, Aldridge, Nelson, Derozan
do-overs: Gay, Salmons

3. Looking over all of the teams, which ones do you like the most (other than your own)?

Haven't looked.

4. What surprised you most about the draft?

How much grumbling there was early on about the draft speed. There was plenty of time.

5. If you could start over, would you do anything differently?

Choose to pick 5th. Some late round picks could have been a little more risk/reward.

day 3 and first place. let the hoop gods keep the monkey afloat. my concern in this draft was to try to pick a balance of good FG% players. seems in years past, ive been good at boards, scoring, steals, but sucking at FT%, blocks, and FG%.my goal is stay healthy. i see we can keep 2 IS'S.i let a number of players go because i wasn't aware of this rule. stupid is as stupid does. i have another YAHOO H2H team that i'll put up against anyone. stephan curry, monta ellis, noah, dave lee, aaron brooks, ariza, scola, batum, amir johnson, dorell wright, dujuan blair, roy hibbert, and wes matthews. i just wish it was a pay league.

1. What was your plan/strategy entering the draft? Were you able to execute as you had planned?
Didn't really have much of a plan. Some principles I went by:
- Best player available for the first few rounds.
- Attention to %s, ASTs and BLKs throughout.
- Use of Basketball Monster to monitor team balance.
Yes I was able to stick with the plan more or less. I wish I grabbed more assists, but it never seemed like the right spot to take any of the upper-tier PGs (except for Collison) when my pick was up.

2. What were your favorite picks? Which do you wish you could do over?
Oddly enough, Jonny Flynn was probably my favorite pick mainly because I really needed him to be an option to bolster up my assists and he and Teague were the last sources of assists left on the board as far as I could tell. However, I gambled that the rest of the league would be feeling comfortable in the assists category and I kept taking other players that I really loved (Beaubois, Daye, Harden) in the meantime. All in all, I'm really glad that I got all four of those guys and I credit getting Flynn with my 15th pick what made it all possible.

I don't really wish I could do any picks over. I'm not thrilled about the Joe Johnson pick because I feel like there's no value gained there. I pretty much drafted him where he should've gone. I was crushed when threespleens took Jason Kidd right ahead of me. There's a HUGE gap between what I expect from Kidd and Joe Johnson. Though when TNT, in a segment on Shaq, highlighted that Jason Kidd was the 5th oldest active NBA player (and 1st oldest guard), I felt a little bit better about it and wondered if I was overvaluing Kidd.

Some other picks I'm having second thoughts over are DeMarcus Cousins and Carl Landry due to the unexpectedly early return of Samuel Dalembert.

3. Looking over all of the teams, which ones do you like the most (other than your own)?
I think moose7474's Team would be pretty dominant if it weren't for the Mike Miller pick.

I also like CJ's Team. I think he could've finished the draft stronger in the later rounds as I see most of my late round picks becoming waiver wire fodder. Then again, I believe depth is less important in Roto than it is H2H because the bench is only needed for spot starts to fill in game counts whereas the bench is used almost weekly in H2H. It's been years since I've played Roto, so I have no idea if my hypothesis is correct.

4. What surprised you most about the draft?
The number of quality forwards and centers that I felt were left on the board in the middle rounds. Perhaps I was overvaluing these guys or the entire league was busy filling needs elsewhere, but I felt compelled to keep drafting forwards even though my immediate team need was clearly guards.

Take a look at this chart:
Draft position for my teams
My PickPlayer NameMax RIHC League Pick
8 D. Wade 11
17 D. Lee 17
32 J. Johnson 36
41 D. Collison 41
56 R. Hibbert 56
65 P. Millsap 65
80 D. Cousins 80
89 A. Kirilenko 96
104 N. Batum 106
113 C. Landry 113
128 J. Jack 144
137 R. Beaubois 161
152 A. Daye 155
161 J. Harden 161
176 J. Flynn 176
185 N. Mohammed ---

Starting from Roy Hibbert and going all the way through to Carl Landry I was itching to shore up my assists (and eventually 3s as the streak of drafted bigs lengthened), but quality forwards and centers just seemed to be dropping into my lap. Outside of Andrei Kirilenko (who has always been a favorite of mine in all fantasy formats), I felt like all of those players were must-draft values.

5. If you could start over, would you do anything differently?
Probably not. I am very happy with my draft and have no regrets other than those related to the factors outside of my control that I've already mentioned (i.e. barely missing Kidd, having Dalembert return awfully early to spoil my Cousins/Landry duo).
