Depending on when we decide to do the draft, there probably is not a big hurry to get this part done. Lots of key players are still up in the air about where they are going. I'd hate to see our fantasy season come down to who got completely lucky about where guys eventually signed or didn't sign.
Would you all be opposed to a "fast" draft on the 22nd or 23rd so we can see where all the dust settles? I could go on the 20th also. At 1 minute per pick, we'd be looking at three hours of pure drafting fun....if we could find a time that worked for everyone.

I had some trouble with setting up queues when I left the screen and came back or took too long to make up my mind. I had to log back in to the site and then could make my queue. It must auto-log you out after a period of inactivity, perhaps unless you check the box about staying logged into the site. "Auto-Pick" is a nice option with the new draft-time.

TD, you and I are looking at the very same players. I was picking between Deron & Steph in round one, and Amare was in my final 3 picks for Round 2 right before you took him. Some good players are slipping, or so it seems. A few surprise picks for me early as well.

I was targeting Deron/Amare for my picks. Was willing to take Curry or Ellis if no Deron. Got neither, so I changed tactic altogether. Not sure if i will get the chance for either Griffin or Gordon on any of my other teams so I reached a bit.

I hoped D-Williams could slip to my hand but that did not happen, forcing me to pick Ellis instead. No knock on his capability of being elite fantasy player, and hopefully playing more team-oriented basketball could help him improve in categories of filed-goal percentage and number of turnovers.

Can we doublecheck the league setup?
According to the RIHC page:
Our roster configuration will be as follows: PG, SG, G, G PF, SF, F, F C, C Util, Util 3 bench 2 DL
We don't draft for DL, of course, so this looks like a total of 15 slots (and, indeed, Draftime is set for a 15 round draft).
But the ESPN league is setup with 5 bench slots (a total of 17 active slots). This needs to be adjusted, I think, yes? Or is there no DL slot in ESPN?
Am working on my queue in the meantime, fyi, and will pick soon.

|
83 | dpr
ID: 2410181422 Mon, Dec 19, 2011, 22:09

4 hour clock wouldnt have helped that much though. It would have saved us 30 mins today only. We need to be getting a pick done every hour throughout the whole day or one every 40 during waking hours. When we have a big hold up everyone should have gotten a chance to check in and have queues set if they are within the next few picks if you know you wont be around. But today we only had 2picks made after the hold up before a 2 hour break and then another 1.5hr plus break. Thats just a recent example but it is what slows the draft down so much.
|
84 | TD
ID: 539351921 Mon, Dec 19, 2011, 23:04

I have no objection to a 4 hour clock, but if we don't start moving faster it will have to be shortened to finish the draft on time.
I think we should have a goal of finishing the draft before the 24th, and adjust the clock daily to meet this goal.

So far we've averaged about an hour and fifteen minutes per pick starting with pick #3, unfortunately no thanks to me. At that same rate, we'll be done sometime on Friday. That being said, a clock makes sense as well. I'd hate to see us drop below 3 hours if we are making adequate progress. We could also go to a cumulative clock.

I think you would have had to designate pickers for that and only they would be able to make your pick for you. You can designate them to only see your top pick or see all your picks, in case you wanted to email instructions such as "if there is only one PG on my list left when I am up, take him, but if there are 2 or more, go ahead and take my top C" or something like that. You can't quite explain that to the computer for the auto-pick feature.

tick tock. Would be nice to get this over.
With so little game information for players, I feel almost like this is a mock draft.

I have a 2-3 player queue, so as soon as next pick is made, draft will be finished.

Yeah, my getting skipped overnight didn't really hurt me either. Looks like we picked up some steam in a big way and hopefully can avoid too much interference with your holiday plans, wolfer.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like we are picking in the dark.

YWK needs to email me for his missed pick. As for rationales, you can put that in the recap thread.

nevermind--he's got Okur.
FWIW, the Rotowire projections has me winning this league by 6. I'll post the complete projected standings in a bit.

PD, They're probably right. I shouldn't place higher than 9th with 60% of my team composed of SG's and SF's. What was I thinking?? :-)
Somehow, the best player available almost always seemed to be at one of those positions. After investing in a stud PG in round 1, I hope I didn't waste that by failing to draft an adequate supporting cast at the PG position. I was so steamed when you stole B. Knight right out from under me in round 13. I was befuddled and threw a hail mary to Ben Gordon, I guess figuring he had a chance to become fantasy relevant again. I felt Knight was the last PG worthy of a pick but I'm sure I missed a few.
I didn't do near the projections in each cat for this draft like I've done in the past. I guess with all the uncertainty and roster churn happening while we are picking our teams, I felt those projections would be of much less accuracy and value than in most years. We'll see if my gut was right or not these guys. Taking Ray Allen, a SG, in round 6 with quite a few quality bigs and PGs still available was a bit of a gamble. Hopefully my picks like that will turn out to have been worth it, so that if (when) my team ends up horribly imbalanced statistically, I can find a trading partner needing a similar yet opposite correction on their team.
I also paid more attention to percentages this year and a guy like Ray Ray and the rest of my SG/SF's can all shoot it, so we'll see if perhaps their lack of blocks and boards can be overcome by their FT% and 3's. Should be interesting to see if I can compete in assists even with D-Will on my roster since my #3 PG is George Hill. I also wanted Collison but that was not to be. I'm hoping Carmelo throws a couple extra assists my way this year.
Best of luck to all. It should be a wild one and lots of fun.

Wolfer, Thanks for setting up the league and running a successful draft. It should be an interesting season. Free agent pickups will probably be very important because there are so many unknowns going into the season.
A couple of questions:
1. How are maximum games played enforced on ESPN? Our league settings state Games Played Limits (Maximums) 660 Games Played (enforced by position). For Guru's RIHC league the rule is a limit of 68 games per position. With 12 active positions in our league, the 660 games played doesn't appear to be correct.
2. How are we handling injuries?

1. I am going to change that to mimic the RIHC when I change the waiver order.
2. Injuries will be enforced the same way the RIHC handles them. ESPN does have the DL slot, but they go by their rules and not our rules.

Team looks good. Id be happy with a 4th place finish. Feels like the most under-prepared draft ive ever done.
