As the clock ticked down we were able to get together and make the second RIHC AA League happen. Thanks to everyone that stepped in at the last minute to fill the remaining spots. Also thanks to Guru for compiling the e-mail addresses and helping me through the league and draft setup process.
Guru has informed me that since we're getting so close to the season starting, we will not be picking draft positions. Once all the managers have joined the league on ESPN and joined the draft on draftime.com, he will create a random draft order that we will use for the draft. As soon as I know the order, I will post it here, as well as enter it at draftime.com, and we can begin drafting.
I have created the league on ESPN and sent out invitations to all the managers that showed interest in joining. I have also created the draft, which is named RIHC AA ESPN, and sent out invitations for everyone to join as well. I would like to ask everyone to get signed up and join both as soon as possible. As I write this, 7 of the 12 managers have joined the league.
Since it might take a couple days to get everyone comfortable with drafting and the whole setup process, the 1st round of the draft will not be timed. Once we know that everyone is up to speed, I'm recommending we have a 4 hour time-limit for each pick. I'll figure out what is the best time to pause the clock in the middle of the night and let everyone know when I do. As the draft progresses we may need to cut back the time-limit to ensure that we get that draft completed before the season starts.
Anyone who is unfamiliar with how many players each team is drafting or which positions need to be filled and basically the entire leagues rules can find it under "Settings" on the league home page.
If anyone can think of anything else that needs to be addressed, feel free to leave a comment. Thanks again to everyone and good luck this season.

Well, we're waiting on 3 managers to join the league at ESPN and 6 to join the draft at draftime. I will send a link to everyone for this thread as well as the draftime sign up, in case some people don't know what to do. We should be able to get everyone in place and set up today. 2 of the 3 managers are two of my close friends so I can give them a call today and get them moving on this. Assuming we can get everything in place by this afternoon, I think we should be able to start drafting at least by this evening.

Still waiting on 4 managers to register at draftime and 3 managers to join the league on ESPN. I'll start sending out individual emails in a couple hours if people don't get it going themselves. Worst case scenerio, I do have at least one backup manager that can jump in if needed.

One more manager has joined the league on ESPN. That leaves 2 managers left that need to join the league, and 4 managers that need to register for the draft at draftime.
Since the season starts in 10 days, I plan on starting the draft tomorrow once I have the random draft order. Any managers that I sent an invite to that aren't signed up yet need to get it done by tonight. I will send one last e-mail with the appropriate links to those remaining managers this evening. By morning we should have a full league with 12 people registered for the draft.
We have 2 willing and able backup managers that can take your place immediately so it's time to show some urgency.

Looks like we only have one more person left to join at ESPN. It's someone I know well, so I should be able to get ahold of him. Worst case scenario he appears on gmail later today and I'll let him know.
Our biggest concern at this point is getting the remaining 3 managers to register for the draft at draftime. Once we get the final pieces of the puzzle in place I will contact Guru, he will do a random draft order, I will post it here, enter it on draftime, and we'll be ready to start drafting.

Im registered but just had dumb moment yesterday and used my team name( Chitown Hitmen) as my username. tried to change but wont let me. im good to go though anytime.

@ Gary D - I don't quite understand that last comment. It still says that you aren't registered for the draft. You have joined the league on ESPN but I need you to register at that link from post #11. You can't make picks in the draft unless you are registered.
@ RJ - You said in post #2 that you are officially in both, but it shows that you are not registered for the draft either.

I have sent over the list of managers to Guru and he is going to do a random draft order. I will post it on here so managers can start preparing based on the picks they receive. I'm still waiting on one person to join the league at ESPN. He's usually on gmail, but I haven't seen him there for a few days. If it gets to the point where his absence is affecting our ability to draft, I will email one of the backups and offer them a spot in the league.

Here is the random draft order done by Guru. I will start putting these draft picks into draftime. Not sure how long it will take since I've never done it but after it is complete we can begin the draft. I will let you know on this thread when the draft is open.
As I said before, for the 1st round there will be no time limit but after that I will have to put a strict limit to each pick. We have to go through 16 rounds and the season starts in 9 days. I'm recommending that we have a 2 hour limit between picks, once the 2nd round starts. I would like to get the draft done before opening day so nobody has any extra information. That being said, we may even have to make it one hour between picks as the later rounds come up.
Alright. The draft is officially open for business. There will be no clock for the 1st round but afterwards I will be altering that so we can finish before the season starts. I'm just making sure everyone is present and aware the draft is underway before I add a clock.
If I'm not mistaken, there will be an e-mail sent to everyone whenever their pick is up so be on the look out for that.
As the draft progresses I will be manually adding players off the free agents on ESPN and putting them on the appropriate teams. You can use the league's free agent list as a guide for who is available. Remember that we have certain positions that need to be filled so everyone make sure they have a valid roster by the time the draft is complete.

Who is who? Once I get this figured out I can add all the newly drafted players to every team without messing up.
Also, once the 1st round is over I'm putting a 2 hour clock on each pick in the draft. We're about 5 days behind schedule with our picks and need to make it up.

Meatwads, RJohnston13 has a queue filled but it isn't available. You might want to e-mail out a tutorial of how to fill queues properly so we can keep moving. Also you can make his pick so we aren't here sitting for him for another 6 hours.
I'm a little worried about the bottom half of this draft, we've been sitting for 6 hours idle and there's only 1 of the next 7 picks who have a queue filled...

I noticed he has a queue that's unavailable also. I just e-mailed him and asked him if I can use it to pick for him. I feel weird making the pick without his consent. How do I know that he has it in the order he wants them?
I told him he has 1-hour to get back to me or I'll be putting the 2-hour clock on. As for kokeshi777, who has pick 12 & 13, he is ready to go. I think once I add the 2-hour clock things will start to move quicker. People either make their picks or get skipped at that point.
You're right though, people do need to either start paying attention or learn how to use the queue properly.

This is putting me and the league in a weird position. I don't want to make his 1st round pick for him and have him tell me I had no right or that it was not who he wanted. I figured once everyone made their 1st round pick that was proof that they knew the draft was happening and I could blame them for missing any future picks.
I also understand as much as anyone that this draft WILL be completed before the season starts, no matter what kind of time limit I need to set on picks. Once there is a clock than people will be skipped and that will only make it more difficult to compete this year. It has to happen that way because people took 4 days to sign up for something that took 5 minutes.

I wanted to ask the league their opinion on something...What time each night should I turn the clock off, and what time should I turn it back on in the morning? Obviously I'm not gonna make people wake up in the middle of the night to make picks.

I guess I'm gonna go with 12 AM ET - 8 AM ET. It's gonna be tough to find a schedule that works for everyone since the league has people on the east and west coast.
Everyone just make sure they have a queue set up if their pick is going to come up early in the morning or late at night.
If anyone needs help figuring out how to make their queue available for someone else to make their pick, let me know. We do need to keep the pace of this draft moving as quickly as possible.

A small point of contention: you shouldn't get two 2 hour clocks on the turn. At least that's how it's worked in RIFC for the last however many years I've been playing it. It should have been RJohnson's turn when Kokeshi timed out in 3.12

Meatwads - yes, we usually allow only one clock period for people at the turn (although we usually have a clock setting that's longer than 2 hours). There is a setting for that, but it might not be adjustable after that draft has started. You can manually tell the system to skip a current pick, however.
As for Addicted, he's an experienced drafter. I would assume that if his queue is unavailable, you should not override it. Many people use the queue as a means to keep track of targeted players, but do not necessarily keep it in a sequence that should be drafted from. If they want the top name selected, they will enable autopick.

Everyone remember that we all have to be able to fill a legal lineup coming out of the draft. So when you guys get a chance try to move the players from your bench to your lineup on your ESPN team page. That'll make it easier for me to tell if someone is lacking in certain positions near the end of the draft.

I've set up a huge q for the next two rounds. I tried to set it up with some bigs and guards. The only thing is I do not want two smalls or two bigs so if someone could pick a guard with one for me and a big with the other pick that would be great. I will be working and able to check in periodically so if you could also leave the q for maybe 30-45 minutes before the pick was made that would be great too. If this is too much trouble then no big deal.

I just talked with kokeshi777 on the phone and he said he won't be able to get to the computer before his clock runs out. He gave me the ok to skip his picks and he'll get to them whenever he's back at a computer, probably later tonight.

In 30 minutes it should be TheDrone's pick unless RJohnson fills in his last missed pick. I don't think the system will see it that way and will continue to be kokeshi777's 12th round pick, but it should skip. Anyway we can make that happen Meatwads?

Sorry I didn't get back to you Kyle. I haven't been at this page today. kokeshi777 told me that I could skip him from now on after 15 minutes if he doesn't have a queue set. The problem has been that we always stop drafting right before his 2 picks come up and I'm still sleeping in the morning. I live on the West coast so the 5 AM restart time is usually too early for me.
I'm not sure if anything I just said has anything to do with your question but it should explain why I haven't skipped kokeshi777 the last couple days, and he ends up getting a double clock. This of course would all be solved if kokeshi777 set a queue and opened it to the league or but knowing him as I do, that's not gonna happen.
We're doing a great job with the time and most managers haven't missed picks so it will all be over soon and we can enjoy the season instead of making picks.

We're very close to the end but I will be away during a good chunk of Saturday night/Sunday morning. I'll have my phone to check but it's kind of a pain to try to draft from my phone while looking at my cheatsheets on my phone. I'll try to set up a queue, but if I'm slow to getting my picks in, I hope you can forgive me and the 40 minutes I've taken since the draft "really" started. :D

I've decided to stop the draft until I hear back from Guru on a ruling. Team Dawson picked Zaza Pachulia with his last pick. When I tried to add him to his team it said I couldn't without dropping another C. The roster rules when I started the league said that we are not allowed to have more than 4 C eligible players on our rosters. Team Dawson already had 4 before he picked Pachulia.
I've written an e-mail to Guru asking him what should be done about this. Maybe I can change the rule to allow unlimited centers, maybe Team Dawson's pick needs to be deleted so he can pick again. Once I hear back from Guru I will let people know what's going on and start up the draft again.

Alright. Guru told me that there is nothing in the rules that says he have a limit for C or any other position. I will change the rule in the league settings, add Pachulia to Team Dawson and restart the draft. Sorry for the delay.

Interestingly I drafted 3 guys right on the nose for their average. When I do this for my RIFC teams, very rarely am I right on leagues averages. I reached over 1 round for 2 players and I "stole" 3 players. I was pretty much right at the middle for everyone, I took 3 guys at highest draft pick and 2 guys at their lowest draft selection. Apparently I'm the only one in RIFC who thinks Nick Collison will produce anything worthy of a draft pick. Let's hope I'm right?!? What's funny is I took Dragic and Monroe flip flopped of their average.

I'm having difficulty figuring out how to activate the league. Guru sent me an e-mail but didn't explain how to do it. I think I might have to manually enter our draft results, which I suspect won't be possible before the games start today. Until I hear back from Guru, I'm not sure what to do. I hope that our stats for today will count, but I don't know. Everyone just make sure to set their lineups today. Worst case scenerio, I will try to talk to ESPN and see if they can add the stats later if they won't count. I suspect that's why we can't add/drop players yet.

Sorry guys but I was supposed to enter the draft results after the entire draft was completed instead of manually entering each pick as it was made. I'm not sure how long this process will take but I suspect it's going to take too long to have today's stats count. I'll get working on it right now. I wasn't told by anyone that I needed to do this, so it was an honest mistake. I hope we can retro-actively go back and add today's stats.

I just finished manually entering the results with one minute left before the season started. LOL. I'm sorry to everyone who wasn't able to put the players in the lineup that they wanted to for the Cavs/Wizards game. I entered the results in the order which each team picked, so your best players should be in your active lineups by default. I'm going to change the waiver order to the opposite order for which we picked in the first round. I think all the free agents will than go on to waivers, but if not, players will be eligible to be picked up as soon as you can. Hope everything works out. If anyone has any questions, comments or concerns, let me know. Good luck.
