0 Subject: Suggestions for the game (this year and beyond...)

Well, so far I'm pretty satisfied with my teams' performances. All 3 are in the top 70 and 2 are in the top 20. How things go over the next few rounds will be interesting.

This thread I guess is for ideas and suggestions for next year's games. I came up with one as I logged in today.

I know there are quite a few people that only really follow college hoops at tournament time. My thought is this:

Have somewhere where the teams still alive from each of the baskets are listed. I don't really know what conference every team is from, and it gets annoying to keep referring back. If there could be a separate page where remaining teams from each basket were listed, it would simplify my cheering process :-)

I agree. It would be a great addition to the game if we could get more detail on the scoring pages that let us know what teams were in basket units, and also for all units, what teams (with seed number) were played each round and which team is next to play. It would be very cool if this information could be displayed in a help tip fashion by mousing over the unit names and individual G$ amounts won or lost. (For example: if I hold my mouse over the 8 in the second round box for Arizona, it tells me they won against #9 Gonzaga and if I hold it in the empty third round box, it tells me they play #5 Notre Dame next). But if that is not feasable to implement, then even if each unit was hyperlinked to another page or popup detailing the results of each matchup so far for the unit and next team(s) to play, that would be useful also.

In any case, the game is still very fun and challenging, and it's nice to have a contest where you don't really know how things are going to shape up until the later rounds.

As a start, I listed the names of the teams for each basket (just below the basket name). This was a simple addition. (Note - all teams are listed, not just those still alive.)

The mouseover idea is an intriguing one, though not trivial to set up. Let me give that some thought.

I think this is a great game as it is and a wonderful alternative to filling out the standard bracket. One idea I'd like to toss around is the ability to "double" one short and one long, similar to Football Pickoff. I suppose you can double or triple a team by picking the team, seed and conference within the current rules, but it might be interesting to put extra emphasis on a particular team/seed/conference that you have strong feelings about. Just a suggestion. My thanks to the Guru for creating and maintaining this contest.

Looking forward to the 2011 iteration of Market Madness.

With the tourney now going to 68 teams, there are more play-in games (Tuesday and Wednesday night) to get to the field of 64 that starts Thuesday morning. I assume like in past seasons when there was just one play in game, those games will not be part of the contest.

What makes the addition of these three additional play-in games more of a challenge to the market madness format is there is likely to be major conference teams vyinvg for those field of 64 slots.

I wonder if any thought has been given to how this will work with the 'basket units' and our ability to start putting together our selections before Wednesday night, as early as Sunday night based on past years. I guess one solution may be to not include the play-in teams in their respective conference basket unit groupings.

Correct - the 4 "opening round games" will not count.

I haven't decided how to handle conference teams in those games. I'll wait to see the brackets before deciding.

My suggestion is that you melt down some bronze and cast a statue of ISIAH THOMAS! Bow Down To WASHINGTON!
