What in the rules prevents me from dropping Parra and putting him on my prospect roster?
because your waiver priority is 10, and mine is 3?
he wouldn't go directly to the free agent wire. he'd go to waivers, and there are 9 owners ahead of you, at least one of whom would certainly make a waiver claim to prevent you from attempting to circumvent the rules.

#40: The only means for putting prospects onto a manager's prospect list is the prospect draft.

Baldwin everyone knew the draft was Thursday. You had a week to move him to your team but you waited until after the draft started.
Yeah MITH started early but the draft was officially starting Thursday and you waited then until the to make the move. It's been the rule once the prospect draft starts you can't open a prospect slot by moving someone to your team.
If you can move someone to free a slot after the draft starts I might consider moving Ellsbury...but I can't.

You've got it backwards, Nerve. I'm not tryig to free up a prospect keeper slot. Im trying to put him on my prospect keeper roster by dropping him from my regular squad and then drafting him.
I find it impossible to believe the rule is written so airtight that it excludes picking him off the waiver-wire during the propect keeper draft. But if that is the way everyone thinks it should read then the lawyer who someday formalizes these loosely written and unwritten rules of ours should make a note of this discussion.

What you want to read about the 2B prospect you picked 48 hrs ago...Alexei Ramirez went 2-for-4 and hit a grand slam off Ben Sheets in Wednesday's loss.
Ramirez hit ninth today, but it appears as though he'll spend a time leading off and playing center field while Jerry Owens misses the start of the year

Boldwin - you do not have a 5th round pick. as has been previously noted, you called up Fukudome after the prospect draft had already started.
stop being intentionally obtuse and ignoring several other members of the league, because it only serves to discredit yourself, and cause disharmony within the league.
Several owners have commented on this, and the commissioner ruled on this.

am i the only one that is being thoroughly entertained by watching Baldwin ignore all the posts telling him he doesn't have a 5th round prospect draft pick?
personally, it's quite entertaining.

I picked Fukudome up the instant the system would let me. You will notice the only way I could have done it sooner would be to have asked the commish to do it for me and go around the WW waiver time-limit. I honestly thot I had gotten it in time but I now see MITH had one pick in Wed. That bites. I thot you yourself had agreed with me in post #2 that the issue was obviously in my favor and hadn't noticed since that anyone had disputed it. I thot I had beaten the clock and Tree was the one who missed the deadline. That was the flavor I got from his comment.
Did MITH and/or the commish intend to kill the chance to clear the prospect rosters of obvious call-ups?

Yes it was quite intentional. I saw that Baldwin picked up Fukudome allowing me the opportunity to screw you out of having 5 prospects this year.
And I freaking pounced.
You know, Perm Dude and I have actually been plotting this since last year. I convinced Soxzeitgeist to abandon his Poliforum team, knowing all along that Perm Dude would pull the necessary strings to invite me to replace him. Nerveclinic then made it easy by requesting a couple of days between the two drafts and during which PD would activate the league, opening the door for mayhem!

Baldwin - you had all draft to call him up, ala SZ. you even had a few days prior.
i had the same amount of time to call up my prospect, waited until the last minute, and got burned because i did so.
accept some responsibility.

I think it wouldn't let you pick anyone up until two days after PD input the players. If the reason I couldn't was because I had to wait for Schilling to go on the DL I could live with that, but I'm pretty sure to be fair we needed to give people a chance before starting prospect draft until the WW cleared to FA.

Or alternatively make it the official rule that players called up from the prospect roster don't clear a prospect slot.

Baldwin - All you have to do is post your intention to call him up here on the boards, as all other managers, this year and previous years, have done.
Nobody screwed you except you, for not paying sufficient attention to this league in all it's complexities.
I'm empathetic, as I too have found it difficult sometimes to keep track of things, but I don't complain about it, as it's my fault/decision on time management.
Personal responsibility. Owning up to one's own short-comings and resolving to be better in the future. These are the themes at work here. Good, conservative bedrock principles!

From Draft discussion thread 1...I don't get to reuse that slot in this yars draft anyway as much as I'd like to. - Boldwin
why wouldn't you, you called him up before the prospect draft started?
That has always opened a slot...as long as you did it before the first prospect draft pick.
This year I think if you did it by Thursday though you should be OK since that's when the commish said the draft would start and MITH just decided to pick early. - Nerveclinic How did Nerve change his mind 180 degrees like this? I was ok with the idea till he got me thinkin I was good to go.

according to the yahoo page, Baldwin picked him up the morning the draft was scheduled to start. IMHO, that's cutting it too close. if he had picked him up wednesday, there wouldn't be a question, but it's showing a Thursday pick up.

Well, that and his recorded musings that that is what he would like to do, if allowed, and I'm inclined to give him a 5th pick.
Sounds like a decision for Super Perm Dude, Commissioner Extraordinnaire!

see, my problem is this. i too, waited until the last minute. i didn't trade for the starting CF of the Twins who is a serious speedster so he could languish on my prospect list.
but, thursday came around, and i didn't call him up. i had every intention to call him up, but didn't.
the rules were specific. the draft started thursday. all prospects should have been called up prior to that day.
if you're going to start giving people breaks because they meant to do something, but didn't, then we have a problem, not the least of which is that i want my third round prospect draft pick, which negates the entire fourth round.
you also need to grant MBJ another prospect pick because he called up Josh Hamilton the same day Baldwin called up Fukudome.
the can of worms you're risking opening here is large.

Hey, I don't even have a can-opener.
You really aren't going to wait and see on Gomez? That seems silly, given the strong possibility that he struggles early and gets sent down.
But whatever. T'ain't up to me. You know I hate the rule, and argued vigorously against it for years. Just one more reason to do away with it, if it's going to get folks all riled-up.

to me, the rule is clear. it's got to be done the day before the draft starts.
if we want to modify so it can be done during the draft, i'd be ok with that for next year and beyond, but i think opening things up right now is rough.

I didn't wait. I hung on the WW for several days until everyone turned into FA's and picked him up at 4 in the freakin morning the first chance anyone had. What says 'wait' there?

the fact that in years past this type of transaction was done by promoting the prospect during the regular draft or by posting/letting the commish know.
this has always been the rule...
the draft starts thursday. picking up a player on thursday is too late imho..

Baldwin could have communicated better but, IMHO, he should get his fifth pick. tree is right about the rule, such as it is, but we have always been more insisent on the spirit of the rule when a managers intentions have been made, or are inherently, clear.
in reviewing what Balwin posted and did it seems mnifestly that he was trying to call up his prospect before the schedled prospect draft without losing his waiver priority.
this is another problem caused y not stating the prospect draft immediately after the regular draft, i think.

Exactly. We've had a couple of bumps because of this (and because of the very early start to the season).
I'm not exactly certainly why Baldwin didn't put in a waiver wire claim instead of waiting until waivers were cleared. If he had put in a claim then the timeliness issue would be clear. But he didn't. I have to mull this over just a little bit.

Why should you have to put in a WW claim and lose your position for someone you already own? Can anyone really believe there was any doubt about whether I would be picking him up immediately? I drafted him in the 8[14] round in my other expert keeper league. Yeah, it wasn't even a question whether I would pick him up immediately.

Why should you have to put in a WW claim and lose your position..."
Because you want to get another prospect draft pick. Look, no one is doubting your ability to pick up your own prospect. There is no limitation on that. So if you want to drop your claim on an extra prospect pick we're done.

Just make sure to drink whatever it is before you go into the voting booth, Baldwin. I think you'll only vote Democratic when high on something anyway.
Sorry for the delay in getting back to this. With my mother-in-law sick, Obama-mania here in the Keystone State, plus a stupidly busy day Friday (including doing work on a very interesting book that tells evolutionary theory through a religious lens) it just wasn't possible to read over all this again and digest it all.
I have every reason to believe that while Baldwin should have done things differently to ensure he was within the spirit and letter of the rules, I have to allow that the Liberal Republicans who form this Administration and rule the RNC probably have addled things for him and therefore a little leeway while he considered drinking the Obama kool-aid is probably in order. So five picks it is.
Next year we will certainly go back to back drafting with no break, and that'll elliminate these problems. So there you go. The Commish Has Spoken!
