Neat table STL....Thanks!...I seem to have trouble getting the results on the SSS for everyone(don't seem to be able to get specific weeks for some reason)so it's good to catch up on the results... | I put a stable into the NWRC this week....So most of the Cab runners will be racing in that area for a while...except for Yankee ,who i shipped to Europe...I plan on giving him a few turf tries just to see what he can do, although the longer he goes on dirt(so far) the better he has looked...It is far easier finding turf races over there... 2 | StLCards | Sustainer ID: 417433018 Mon, Oct 08, 00:30
Looks like you had some well placed horses this week Cab. The only positives I had this week was Rich Wine a claimer I picked up a few weeks ago. A 98SP for a filly should win a few races. Puts her up there with my other claimer Hero Grub who has been my best horse so far. I accidently ran Erica Bark, 3yo filly, back to back, so the 71 turf is probably not reflective of what she can do. This was the first turf test so I'll have to try again. My other bright spot was Sally Plow who ran a nice 86SP on dirt. First try on dirt so I'm pleased so far. Hopefully she will get faster as I hone in on the right distance. | Looks like Madman is trying to become king of the starter allowance. 3 | Madman | ID: 68361122 Mon, Oct 08, 01:51
Nice table :) | Cab -- you have to make sure that the weeks are numbered correctly in the raceout.zip's that you download. I bet that's the main deal. I get all my raceouts from the main site or Supertoy's site. StL -- yep, king of the starter allowance. But these races are drying up since people are carding CPU value races instead. Oh well. I haven't been doing the claim thing forever because of personal time issues, so my tags will be running out unless I can continue to acquire these low-tag horses. BTW, Light Jupiter becomes my 3rd horse to break 100. I see that Toral is really kicking arse in that category :). 4 | cab | Donor ID: 783144 Thu, Oct 11, 12:37
I'm not really sure what has gone wrong Madman...I used to be able to do it and then i started downloading the racing zips as soon as they were available and changing the race number of the first race..(I get impatient and have to see the sp's as soon asi can!)...To be honest though, this computer can't handle too much searching....Not enough memory i think...I do a couple of searches(even just listing various races) and then an error comes up and i have to re-boot the computer...

Hmmm. That is weird. The database file is large now. On my machine, the import is taking longer and longer. The real kicker is that I compact the database after each import. This means copying the entire file temporarily. This means your hard drive goes into overdrive. | Once I get things settled, I may try to figure out ways to get around this. FYI, I just bought 256K of RAM for $35 after shipping. www.crucial.com. SWEEEEET. Of course, the rest of my machine is still in pieces. Sigh. 6 | StLCards | Sustainer ID: 340491814 Thu, Oct 11, 14:29
I noticed the import taking longer as well. I figured that it was just more races being run each week. I'll have to check my update specs on ram. Only 32M right now. Let's see, $35 for 256K, that is $140 per Meg, so an extra 32M would only be, $4,480. hmm, I better hope I win that $500K purse Sat.

Oooops. I meant 256 MB for $35. One DIMM. I'm up to the odd 392 :). | Actually, the problem isn't the number of races. Well, that's a factor, but it's a small factor. The issue is the explosion in the sim. I don't have the numbers right off hand, but basically one month of data is equivalent to the first entire YEAR of the sim. To make the searches run as fast as they do, the Access database is "indexed". This is cool ONCE THE DATABASE is going. But it sucks, since each and every single horse that runs each week has to be matched and placed within this index whenever you import new data. Obviously, even if the size of the new import doesn't increase, the time it takes to do this matching will definitely increase. Numerical example: How hard is it to match 5 new observations with 10 observations you already have? How hard is it to match those same 5 new observations with 1,000,000 you already have? Get the picture? I don't know how long the SSS will remain functional without another database revision. I initially projected that it would remain functional for a year. With the revised keys, I thought I might be able to get it up to 2-3 years. But the import will continue to take longer and longer and longer . . . The bad news is that I don't know how to speed things up, so I'm not even sure what a new revision would entail. :( The database is really huge, with almost a million records already, and it is growing extremely fast. 8 | StLCards | Sustainer ID: 2504849 Thu, Oct 11, 16:15
I may just start deleting some of the older weeks if I run into a problem. I only loaded to upper 800's IIRC and really focus more on the late 900's and up. I think data on the last 10 races for a horse is more than enough for my purposes of selecting races etc. May even help as old data may skew relevant current numbers. I don't effectively use the week filter right now.
