Well, I've been waiting for this week for awhile now :).
Pretty good overall, although I don't know about claims or my new homebreds yet. That stuff will be posted tomorrow, BillG says.
Quick summary:
Secret Society My first stakes win! Pedestrian 84 speed, but this proves he can run on a "Good" surface, as well. Plus, I have 3 divisional points now with the horse to start going for Graded races, I think. Nice to have a solid 2 yo. Because he's a bargain breed, the odds of this guy actually making one of the Triple Crown races next year are small. But hey! Until he proves he can't, I can dream.
Royal With Silver Whoa! 104.2 win in a starter allowance as she burns the field. I got this horse because of her occasional flashes of greatness and lack of experimentation in routes. So far, so good -- 2 tries, 2 wins. My second fastest speed rating ever, and the 5th horse in my stables to break 100, the 3rd to break 104.
Alyrun Wing Cranks a 104.3 to finish second in an Allowance*3 Million race. Fastest speed rating in my history.
Tsultress runs a 91.4 in 8.5f loss in 5310. She ran tough. This means that the only horses in Madman4 that haven't broken 90 are Brown Bro and my new homebred (whenever he arrives).
Sal At the Bell Goes 2 for 2 now in 8.5f races with an easy A2L win. His winnings are up to 77K. I still need to do a turf test with this guy. And 9f and maybe another 10f test.
Ok, so that's the good news . . .
Snow Storm my prized Christmas Storm progeny goes down with a 00.2 speed rating. YEOOUCH.
Straight Time finished 3rd in her stakes race. Was leading and I thought she had a chance.
Jericho Velvet got shelled in his stakes race. 92.2 8f on turf. Ugh. My bad.
Light Jupiter, Elocat's Boys, Our Nooses, Tow's Terms all get shelled in dirt sprint starter allowances! UGHGHGHG. So much for me owning those races, eh! LJ was the best with a 93.1 rating. This guy is Mr. Consistency!
Agriculture Bomber continues to show nothing. With Caerleon blood, he may be due for the breeding shed when Madman3 gets a few more points. That stable only has 147 right now, since it suffered through injuries, two breedings already, and the inconsistencies of a few of the aforementioned dirt starter allowance horses. Ugh.
Interesting minutia Biagi's Stubble won his Maiden race in a Maiden claimer. This is the only 2 yo I've ever successfully claimed. Not much to brag about, but this win gets back the points I spent on him. Still wasn't worth it -- since you can only race these 2yo's once every 5 weeks.
All in all, a very fun week. I lost money on Jericho Velvet, but won bets on Sal at the Bell and Secret Society to more than cover it. More importantly, I bet the farm on another horse and won, making the second straight 500K gain week for me. All stables are over 2.5m at the moment -- I'm not betting as regularly as I should . . .
19 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 2 - 1 for 9/19 in top 3. Not bad, but awful starter allowance races really hurt me bad.
Good luck, and happy racing! |

My fault for not coding it very efficiently. This is a list of all known Gurupie horses to break 90. The power ranking is on the far right. I think the obvious top horse made it easily to the top! Congrats, toral.

I've been off the boards for 10 days with more computer problems. Reinstalled Windows and am still having dll faults that close the browser every few minutes. I think i should have stuck with W95.
But I just wanted to risk crashing before I finish this...most annoying...to congratulate Madman on his stakes win. A stakes win for 2-year olds is the kind of thing you can dream about....one day soon, you'll be sitting in the trainer's box, wearing your white pants and hat and drinking your mint julep....

:) Thanks, Toral. You led the way for Gurupie victory. Actually, it's reasonably easy to get a Stakes win for 2yo's at the moment. Especially with the Breeder's Bowl just going on, a bunch of the best horses weren't geared up yet. Also, not all 2 yo's continue to develop. So we shall see. But I'm going to strike while the iron is hot and enjoy whatever Secret Society can give me. I'd bet big money that the 900 breeding points I just spent won't give me a better horse than Secret Society. Sometimes you just have to get some luck.

Congrats on the stakes win Madman...Secret society is looking good...
The wait for the updates is killing me!...Strike gold again won FTO in a 2k maiden claimer and I'm hoping that i managed to hang on to him...Only went 57sp but its something to work on i guess...I actually had a good week too...9/16 itm including 5 wins...I have 4 or 5 others in claiming races as well...
I have been changing the riding selections on some of my horses in the last few weeks...Mine bunker(normally at the back and staying there! ) was given a couple of sprints with an all out setting and this week went to routes and set at jockey select...Girlfriend parking also had a change of running style, the setting was at 40%(he normally runs near or in the lead)..It seems to have worked for both of them...Or it maybe that they just struck the right fields...I have been running the Clam at longer distances the last two starts(10f & 14f) as well...Getting short fields in str allowances so still picking up prize money...He will be going back to 8-8.5f in his next race...He's been getting run all over at his mile starts, so i am hoping he will love it when he drops back to the mile after theses last 2 races..Thats the plan anyway!...

Now what do I do?
This week I claimed a 2yo filly that is a real dog. She had been totally abused being run every week or two for the first 5 races. Top speed was a 47SP on 5.5f dirt. She was finally claimed from the abusive owner and given a 10 week rest and she ran a 36Sp at 7.5f. This week after another 10 week rest she ran a 52 on 7f turf. Her name is Business End Up #16051. Why did I claim her? The reason. Simple. Kingmambo x Northern Dancer x Secretariat. I've been wanting a Kingmambo horse and with ND and Secretariat I couldn't pass it up. Now the problem is what to do with her. I can always breed I figure, but first I plan to try racing. My plan is to wait 5-6 weeks and run a 6.5f dirt sprint to start. Any suggestions?
I had pretty few races this week and only managed a show. Hopefully I'll have a few horses sharp this week to race. Screwed up a few entries last week. Somehow I looked at the CPU value wrong on one horse and didn't enter it correctly in a restricted allowance. Oh well, I need to be more careful. Great week Madman.

StLCards -- Interesting Dilemma with BEU. Personally, I'd enter her in a low purse MSW route race, probably dirt.
My guess is that you don't know what she can do yet. The long layoffs were probably a result of injuries. And first time back from injuries are often run when the horse is only RTG, at best. Therefore, throw out ALL races for this horse after the first one.
And, I don't like races under 6f to judge a horse, either, so throw out race #1.
What do you have left? A brand-spanking new horse! With great breeding, of course. She's not likely to be a champion right off. But she definitely deserves a chance with a new owner. I'd suggest a dirt route (8f), a dirt sprint, a turf sprint or route -- depending on which looked better -- all before you'd even start to consider to put her in a claimer.
BTW, I don't think you can use her breeding until she turns 4 -- 14 months from now. And even then, you'll incur a 250 point penalty for "pushing the envelop". But I may be misunderstanding the new rules. Previously, you had to be a 5 year old to use the breeding . . .
Good luck with her. These young'uns are exciting. Of course, you can only race them once a month, so it takes a lot of patience!
BTW-- Royal with Silver came back Layoff after her 104 speed route performance. DOH!
