Well, I stopped posting to the HR threads when I was having browser problems...and I finally got myself a new box that works. Hope people are still playing the game. For myself, I am, and am still enjoying it, but it has settled into a kind of routine, as I'm not planning to breed (horses, I mean) until 2-year old breeding reopens next year. I haven't assimilated the breeding and BP claiming point changes yet either.

This week...anybody want to claim a horse who has run 114 for $5K? Check out Chronic Emblem in 1506.

Only 8 horses running this week. Bead Pick couldn't get into a race despite 49 points. I've having a devil of a time finding simple 2x 6f allowances for Hank's Rattles, and he missed out on the stake I entered him in this week instead.

Of the 8 horses...an interesting 2-year old claim pickup, Luna, is the 7-2 favourite under Fontain in 5401 A2, a $50K claimer at 6.5 f on the turf. Idea Sal made only his second choice race again despite 49 points, and goes off 9-2 in 5210 SW. Barefoot Morris is running itm in his quest to break his maiden and goes off at 6-1 in 1505 AZ. If he doesn't make it soon, I may have him run shod.

Hey Toralm, glad you got the new computer, hopefully it's lightning fast. I'm still playing and having fun with the SIM, I think Cab and Madman are too, and I noticed Goatlocker had some entries a few weeks ago.

I did some breeding and one horse "Ally's Logic" broke her maiden last week in her second race by running a 72SP. It was a restricted race for MO stable residents, but it was a win nonetheless. Ally's King, another of my 2yo homebreds, is running this week and I'm hoping for good things out of him. Ally's Article(GB) doesn't look too promising yet, but has only run a few races. I also have another 2yo homebred Show Me The Green that is running his first race this weekend in MO. I'm trying to have restraint in breeding horses as I really don't want a bunch of 2yo's that can only run every 5 weeks or so, nor next year a bunch of 3yo's that I can't find races for.

I've been having a little fun with 2 stables residing in the "Show Me" Stables (MO) (Thus the name of my "Show Me The Green" 2yo with Little Missouri as the sire). They run some contests, but the participation is very low. I have had a couple of very misplaced horses in some of these "contests" trying to win pts by a prayer. My best horse continues to be a $5K claimer Hero Grub, but she has ran 100 only 1 time. Maybe I can claim Chronic Emblem this week. Not likely though as I only have 1 stable that has any space, and none of those horses are running this week.

Good to see you back Toral...

I'm still racing and enjoying it as well...I don't have any runners this week cause i have been away and didn't get back in time to enter them...As far as 2yo's go, i have had mixed results so far...Blame the rum has run the best so far with a 81sp(and win)on debut...the rest have ranged from mid 50's to mid 60's their fto..I plan on breeding one more...He/she will only get one start before the new year but that's okay...I am going to try and get one more start from all my 2yo's before the new year...

I would imagine, but am not entirely sure, that there should be a bunch of races for 3yos after January...There will be no 2yo races at all untill the breeding season starts(march or april i think??) and all this years 2yo's will need somewhere to run?...The new claimimg rules make things harder imo...I've lost several horses that were doing great in the claiming races(and hadn't lost them till the new rules come in)...

My "new" star is Parade shooting(bacup)...I will give him another race in a marathon stakes event in week 1243 and if he goes okay i am going to nominate him for the Eqinitics(sp?)via Socalslew's, team independent..I don't really know whether he will make the grade...

Glad to see you back, Toral. Chronic Emblem is the fastest horse available this week. I'm going for 2K claimers almost exclusively this week for ASR purposes. . .

The claiming rules are really changing the game -- for the better I think. Until the next 2 yo breeding season begins, I'm going to try to work the claimers as much as possible.

There's also a lot more quality out there in the claiming ranks. Furthermore, if you've taken time off, you may be startled to see how fast low-tag starter races are going for these days. Yipes.

My big race for this week -- 0102. Secret Society is in a 2yo GI Stakes race. Yep, that's right. I figured I'd see what he's made out of. Long shot in the race (20/1), but I'm hoping that the 8.5f distance, plus several weeks since his last 90 speed will make me lucky. If he's going to qualify for any of the triple crown races next spring, he's got to get going now.

And, for the record, given his breeding I know that it is most likely that he's going to stall out here and get slaughtered this week. But, hey, I've got cash, and I've got a bunch of starter and allowance horses. My philosophy is to put my horses up there against the big boys and see what they've got.

Alyrun Wing is my only real favorite (4206). I've got 4 100 speed horses from my barns going. Unfortunately, Jericho Velvet looks overmatched in his stakes race (I should've known), Light Jupiter isn't as good as his 105 indicated, and Tow's Terms is in a low-tag starter race with some other 100+ speed horses. As I said, competition in those races is getting absurd.

Cab -- I really think Parade Shooting is a very high quality horse. Definitely worth pushing to see how far he can go (in class).

Well, Tow's Terms ran a 106.8 to set a new Madman personal best speed rating for me. Light Jupiter ran a 104.5. So I now have 2 horses with three 100 speed races for me.

Agriculture Bomber exploded with a 100.3 victory in his first 10f A2x race, making him the 7th horse in my barns to have broken 100 for me. I have an 8th horse that I recently claimed who has a 100+ on record in the recent past, so I'm hopeful that I can continue to pile more of these guys up.

Secret Society got creamed in his G1 race. And Jericho Velvet got soundly whooped in his Stakes race. Sigh.

A bunch of my claimers under-performed, which really bites, since I had a lot of points on the line if I could have had Murf's Swills finish top 3 and if I could keep him (which I doubt).

Pro Trick and Brown Bro are continuing to put up respectable places in extremely restricted races. Private Count proved she can go 11f with a reasonable mid 80 speed on turf outing.

Bad news: This was my worst week betting by far. I lost around $1.5 million. Sigh. I made a mistake with placing bets that cost me 600K. When I placed the bet correctly, I still lost. And rakida's plug and secret society show bets proved worthless.

Not sure why Rakida's Plug sucked it up. Hope he's not hurt again. I've got a lot of male broodmare prospects in that stable, and I'd like to keep him running for awhile longer if I could before breeding him. Gotta wrack up those BP's for next season...

Hero Grub put up yet another win this time in an owner restricted (MO stables) 4+ Open allowance beating some very good horses even the males. She only ran a 98.8 but won fairly easily by 3 lengths. Her record is now 14-6-1-2 with 3 consecutive wins.

My 2 year old Show Me The Green won wire to wire running a 72SP and was never challenged. My other 2 yo this week made a late break and cam in 2nd by 1/2 length but only ran a 62SP.

Erica Bark led most of the way but faded to a distant 6th in her race.

Madman, nice runs with Tow's Terms and Light Jupiter. Tow's Terms is not a name I recognize. Where did you get him from?

I paid $25,000 for him in week 1096, buying him from seattlesle.

I bought him because I noticed that he had a $3,500 tag dating back to week 1061 (meaning it would be good through week 1420 or so).

He still hasn't recouped his purchase cost ($19,040 in 2-1-0-3-0 / 6), but he's more than made up his breeding point investment, and actually appears to have open allowance ability.

I snagged him the same week I snagged Jericho Velvet -- I was looking for 5K or under tag horses to enter in a long-past 5K tag ASR race.

He now has 3 102+ speed ratings for me. He actually might be somewhat surface versatile, but has to stay at 8f or under, unfortunately, I think.

BTW, everyone should take a look at my 27285 -- Babified Opossum. I was giving up on him and thought he had no route ability. Well, I since then have had horses "throw a shoe" in races, and I thought his 38.3 for me at 8f was just pretty darned weird for a horse with his breeding.

I re-tried him at 8f this week, and he cranked a 91.2. Now, suddenly, I might be able to turn him in to a route horse! At any rate, he's definitely more flexibile. He was pretty marginal as a dirt sprinter -- max of 94.8 speed, and frequently in mid 80's. But if he can sustain that ability in route races, he might have a chance with his 5K tag . . .

Moral of the story: if your horse has the breeding, don't let a single really awful performance deter you from trying it again.

I went through today and checked up on the horses that have been claimed from me...I am glad to say that keeping them would have been of no benefit to me overall...Although the latest three i have lost, Sloppy station,Our idols and Girlfriend parking have only one race between them for their new owners....I will be keeping a close eye on them and see if they end up in claimers again...One 2yo, Strike the gold, is racing this week in an allowance race so i will watch that with interest as well...The saddest part(or perplexing is a better word probably) was the fact that Jay theatre and Prince beau were both slaughtered...Jay theatre, in particular, was bemusing...The person paid 10 grand for him and 5 bp's and although he wasn't going to be a world beater he had run in the top 5 in his last 5 starts...I would'v bet the proverbial that he got a win sooner rather than later and continued to be a good point scorer in claiming races..Oh well, I guess each to their own....I have killed my share of horses recently...I do however tryto eliminate horses who have very little chance of being successful even in claiming races...

Cab,
I agree in large part about eliminating bad horses for breeding with the exception of eliminating a horse and using their lineage. I seem to recall madman saying in that case a percentage of the eliminated horse's performance could enter the picture. I recently bred a mare by Green Dancer. I claimed her for breeding purposes, but first ran her a few races at her ideal distance and got a few races of 75SP and a show or two before breeding. My first race with the new 2yo colt (Show Me The Green) produced a win with a 72SP at RTG, which is my best 2yo performance to date.
