I've noticed that my minor leaguers improve pretty steadily. However, once they are in the majors, they pretty much stop. (I'm definitly not promoting people too early)

I let each of my hitters start in at least 2 games a day (out of 4) so they should still be improving, shouldn't they??? (assuming they are under 29 and have stars, right?). They are improving but ever so slowly as compared to my minor leaguers. Is that normal???

Now, here's my question...

Now that I'm something like 16 games out with about 16 games to go, Would it do me any good to let my youngsters just play all 4 games and sit my older dudes - letting them play once a week still????

Thanks
J

I don't think it matters how many they play, as long as they play. And one thing you've got to remember is that each player has a maximum potential they can reach, maybe they've just reached theirs. For example I have a 21 year old pitcher with 10 stars that hasn't improved all season.

I thought that a player had to play two games a series to improve in the majors.

Sanchez, no they only have to play once a series (hitters) or be scheduled to pitch once a series (pitchers)...

so if you start someone 4 times or 1 time it doesn't make a difference?????

J - not in skills deteriating... now in improving I'm not sure... I would THINK they will improve more w/ more AB's...

The closer they get to their maximum potential, the slower the rate of progress. Players in the bigs will logically improve a lot slower than an A player. In order for the older players to not deteriorate, they must play in at least one game a week (game week). The more they play, the faster the youngsters in the majors improve, however, twice a week is optimum as the law of diminishing returns is operative here. The problem with promoting too many AAA guys at once, is that they become elegible for the big bucks faster.

well, my plan, was (since I'm out of it) to promote 2 young pitchers who have stopped improving in AAA and have the 350+ criteria to be promoted. So I waived 2 guys that wouldn't resign with me in order to fit these 2 in. Hopefully someone else picks the 2 guys up so I dont have to eat the salary, but they're not TOO expensive.

Anyways, is this a bad idea?

2nd thing was I have a 20 year old and a 19 year old on my roster - an OF and a 2B. I was giving them 2 games a day, but now I've altered my lineup to give them 4 games a day and take some time away from my aged 30+ veterans. Everyone still gets a game a day.

Is THAT a bad idea?
