Well, my first year of GSB, (no, not the drug Janikowski got caught with, thats GHB,) and I finished with the title in J2. I just wanted to take the time to thank Jaysuede and Renegade for all their help, and for anyone else that threw something into one of my threads, your assistance is noted and appreciated. Now, my thoughts on how to build a sweet squad from scratch.

#1 Do not commit to rebuilding or winning right away. Make trades based on getting the better players for your team, regardless of where he is in his development. For me this meant trading away the farm early to get solid major leaguers, then trading those in deals to get better minor leaguers than the ones I sent packing. This strategy is analogous to when GM's talk about taling "the best player available" in the draft.

#2 Know what player ratings mean. I built my lineup over time with the goal of having 400 ave, pwr, and gap players 1-9. I achieved my goal at the trading deadline and it helped immensely. Similarly, no pitcher stepped out on the field for me if his control was sub 400, and no pitchers were acquired if they didn't have that plus 400 in at least two other categories, or the stars to achieve this. How was this done?

#3 Make trades! They are fun, they are fruitful, and more than likely unless your division is all gurupies there is a fish in there somewhere. How are you to find them? By making numerous trade offers, of course! My team had an awful farm system in the weeks before the draft because I'd traded everybody decent. Therefore my top prospect list was full of guys who stunk. So I sent e-mail and trade offers with 5 prospects who will never be good to every player in the league, and low and behold landed two hitters and a reliever who fit my criteria. Plus, when you are fretting over trades to be made at SW, there is nothing better than sending out a bunch in GSB that you know will benefit you.

Once again, thanks for all your help guys, I'll be playing this game for a long time to come. How bout an all-gurupie league soon?
