That was quite some game 3 I had with the Giants this week. 20 Innings, 28 hits combined, the final score? 1-0 Giants. Yikes.

Looks to be an interesting two days for the NL West. It is the only division that has yet to be decided and it will be tough to wrap it up. All 4 teams are over .500 and play each other. Who has the advantage??
Astros leading Giants down 2 games Padres down 3 games Dodgers eliminated
Now Giants and Astros don't face each other. Padres for all intensive purposes need to take at least 3 of 4 from the Astros this week. However if they *only* take 3 then they have to worry about the Giants. I have to root for the Padres this week because I face them the final week and then I have a say in the division title. It's gonna be real interesting either way.

At least you took 2, allowed me and SB to gain a game on the Stros. I took 3 from the Astros earlier this season I can do it again. Then I will do my best not to get swept by the Giants.

To put the NL west in better perspective....while I have for all intensive purposes clinched my division title, the Dodgers , who are dead last in the West are only one game behind me. I love my division...lol

I clinched a tie. Who cares? It's the regular season. I want to finally take down the Indians this year. Especially after last week's sweep.

As I lay dying to see the results of tonights games I scoured some of the league stats. Once again to put the NL West in perspective, the East leading Braves are fifth in the NL in both batting average and ERA behind all four teams from the West in both cases.

My team did vastly underacheive this year. I am lucky that my division wasn't the toughest in baseball. Then again, sometimes great teams only perform as well as they have to. We'll see if that's the case come playoff time.

It doesn't look too good for the Astros without Sean Casey.
The Rangers continued their masterful domination of every team in the league except the Indians with another sweep, and have now won 7 games in a row, the third 7-game win streak of the season.
We're sticking with Danny Graves as our closer. He's too good to keep blowing saves.
Keith Glauber moved to Triple-A this week. He is progressing quite well.

Thats it. The top two teams from the NL West from last year will not be in the playoffs this year. I don't see either of us sweeping the other which is what is necessary. So good luck to the Astros and next year will have a new look for the Fathers.

I'm still holding out for a sweep. Only hoping that the Dodgers can do the same. They took 3 of 4 from me to end my season pretty much so I guess they could sweep the Stros for me and let me back in it. Josie you can feel free to rest any starters if you want to avoid injury. *wink wink* Oh well. Next year I will be back!!

Playoff team by Team Analysis by The Great One
Indians- As usual, solid from top to bottom with no glaring weaknesses. the odds on favorite to grab their second consecutive title. The key to this team will be the success of Brian Bohannon and whether he can be the staff ace he was brought in to be.
Rangers- A very solid lineup with alot od firepower. Hungry after last year's sweep. Only weakness appears to be their bullpen. If the bullpen holds up, they can beat anybody
Astros (aka the Florida Marlins)- Went out and spent a ton of money to try to bring a chamionship. Not as good on paper as the teams in the AL, but held off a tough division, so anything is possible.
Braves- Barely over .500, they are definitely the longshot. They didn't get much competition within their division, and most of their lineup underacheived. If their proven hitters can turn it up a notch, they could do some damage. They have a playoff tested team, and the best postseason pitcher of all time in Jose Baustista (7-1 lifetime). The Astros would be good to not look past them.

I emailed this to the league and I will post it here too.
Once again it is time for the post season awards. With me not being in the postseason for the first time (grrrrr) I will have plenty more time to devote to the website. So if everyone can send me your picks for your leagues MVP and Cy Young and at least a nomination for rookie of the year from your team. If you see someone you want to vote for go for it but it is often difficult researching that award.
Also as an added bonus I would like to get more manager info onto the page. If you could send me your name, email address and instant messanger name if you have one it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to blue hen for this suggestion.

No real rookie canditates since I took this team over late in the season. I brought a few guys up at the end of the year like Jim Brink 2-0 0.00 Era, Kaipo Spenser 2-0 1.33 and Robinson Checo 0-0 1.00 ERA. I used Tom Szymborski as my closer and he went 3-1 1.85 in 20 games but he played 6 games last season so I guess he's not really a "real" rookie.

I can't believe I gave him up. That was when i thought Control was really the only rating that mattered for pitchers. Forget the fact that his other ratings are all above 400 and his control is a fair 325 or so.

I thought you were the older one
I think this will be a fairly quiet offseason compared to the last couple of years. I think there will be alot of bidding on pitching. But from my conversations with people, I think most teams are looking for younger talent as opposed to getting veterans in their prime trying to compete this year or next. With everyone looking for the same thing, it makes it hard to trade...lol

Congrats Bean Dip! And also Great One on another great season. Sorry to see you leave the winners circle, Sliced Bread.
I'm looking for an ace starting pitcher, a closer, and a DH. Also, Mickey Lopez is available if you need a good, moderately priced second baseman. I have someone to replace him if I need it.
I am also looking to deal some of my minor league talent. There are a bunch of guys with 400s that aren't going to make it on my slugging big league club. The following players will come real cheap: Donzell McDonald, Mike Huelsman, Marty Cordova, Johnny Damon, Ron Wright, Kevin Connacher, Travis Young. Please make many offers for these guys... you might be surprised how cheap they come.

Whoever bid 125 million for Rangel is insane. No player is worth that much. Heck, if you wanted to spend 125 million, I'd have sold you Scott Downs..heh.

I agree. For $125 over 5 years, you can afford 3 or 4 "big name" players. Paying that much to any one player is a recipe for disaster, especially if the owner in question does not make the playoffs and get the "free money" that goes along with that.
I guess it's not my place to pass judgement though. If the owner in question goes out and wins a W.S. with Rangel, more power to him.

I agree. Furthermore, I guarantee the owner will not have even a competitive team in two years or for many years after that. One player cannot carry you that much. If they could, I would've gotten them already :)

Unless of course that player is/was Sean "Man of Mystery" Bergman. Let's not forget that while Rangel is looking at $25 mil a year, Bergman was obviously better as he commanded a whopping $95 mil a year. However, unfortunately for all us fans of true greatness, Bergman took the money and ran, literally. He left no forwarding address and has not been heard from since. There have been theories of Bergman faking his own death in an effort to take the money yet not have to deal with the pressure and expectations that would inherently go along with such a mammoth salary. Such rumours have been fueled by appearances of another "Sean Bergman" playing on the single A affiliate of the Cubs, the same team that awarded the now infamous Bergman what for the forseeable future will remain the mightiest contract ever. Others have suggested that the Cubs owner--Kevin, he calls himself--a suspicious character from Schaumberg (sounds remarkably like "sham"berg or "scam"berg, don't you think), IL--may have even murdered his star player in a fit of rage immediately after signing his "star of the future." Why would Kevin (if that is his real name) do such a thing. The motive is not clear, but some sources have suggested that it is possible that he could not in fact afford to pay Bergman the remarkable salary he had offered and quickly disposed of his star player to avoid public disgrace and humiliation.
Still others have even hypothesized that Kevin and Bergman may have faked the star players' death in an act of collusion against the league. Some have suggested that Bergman could indeed be hiding out on a remote island, while another player develops in the Cubs minor leagues under the alias Sean Bergman. Rumors have suggested that the real Bergman could return in later seasons and stelthfully replace the player posing as him in the Cubs organization currently.
One thing is certain. The Sean Bergman scandal is certainly the most baffling unsolved mystery the O2 league has ever seen.
Bean Dip
;-)
PS. In a maniacly clever move of strategy, possibly intended to cover up all remaining evidence of foul play, Kevin has recently offered a $95 million reward for anyone who can lend advice leading to the recovery of the original Sean Bergman. However, be warned, Kevin is a devious man, possibly connected to organized crime, and financial involvement with the Cubs is a sketchy business at best, and at times has proven downright lethal.

Well the second best team in baseball is right where it wants to be. The pitching staff is solid with the addition of phenom Darryl Scott, and the offense should be very consistant. With a bunch of developing talent in the minors, they should continue their World Series run for years to come.

Sliced Bread--Thank you again for running the page for us, and for collecting votes for our awards. It is a lot of fun to be able to look back and check out the league's history.
I have one idea that i was wondering if you could incorporate in the page. If it is possible, could you do a continually updated combined standings that incorporates every game since we started 3 years ago. I know it sounds a little bad me being the one suggesting this, but i think it would be kind of cool to see what teams have been the most dominant over the league's history.
Just an idea, tell me what you think.
