Looks like Batting averages are WAAAAAY down, I guess that shows that pitchers are fairing better?

Good stuff Mr. Suade! Thanks.

Actually, pitchers fared worse than usual. Only 1 team had a sub-4 ERA, and the average ERA was about 5. I'm guessing the mediocre and poor pitchers were getting shelled with the increase in HRs(although this would take some extensive research to confirm). Right now, the Test league seems to be imitating today's baseball.

I think the problem with the sim engine was not that it awarded hits too often, but that the average AVG rating among all major league players had been inflated. According to the rules, 400 is supposed to be the average rating, yet most teams hardly have anyone under 440 or 450 for AVG. These adjustments for batting average are really just a quickfix. A more appropriate solution would be to dilute the talent available, but that would take many seasons to achieve the desired effect.

The averages look good -- though Synocco has a good point. My concern is that the HR rating doesn't seem to have any effect when it is less than 400. That would mean a person with a 250 HR rating is just as valuable as one with a 399 HR rating.

This is crazy. A team that would be dominant one season would now have gaping holes the next. 400 is supposed to be an avg major league player. But look at the data they are hitting .220. That should be nearer to .250, in my opinion. I think the major problem is that there are too many players hitting 450+. Personally, I am all for any changes that would make it more realistic (162 game schedule please!!) but I don't think it is fair that someone who invested 40 million in a pitching staff now gets shelled because the HR's were increased. I hope the staffs mentioned were all mediocre, b/c then 4.50 would be acceptable. But when your staff has 4 aces it should be closer to 2.50. I guess I am not exactly certain what these changes to the sim will produce, but I hope it doesn't drastically affect the way the team performs. GSB is a great fantasy baseball site and will stay that way regardless of any changes.

Does anybody know if the new Sim is in affect for the B3 league I don't think it is but that would explain my 4-4 record with the 3 of the 4 best pitchers in the league.

umm. . .if the sim reduces pitcher stats, i'm sure it will do so evenly. Your "best pitchers in the league" will put up worse stats, but everyone else's pitchers will put up worse stats as well.

PS. I dont think the sim has been activated in any of the leagues yet. Just the test league.

As far as pitchers go, I did a quick and dirty sketch of some of the top pitchers in the Test league. I found 12 pitchers who could qualify as 'aces'. Their average ratings were 441-412-441-441. Their average ERA for the last Test season was 3.80. Their average career ERA is 3.71. 4 of these pitchers had 4.50+ ERAs for last season. It seems that the pitchers are still very inconsistent, but their performance is much better than the league average.

Also, in case you were wondering, I looked up 8 of the pitchers in league C, and they had an average career ERA of 3.51.

The sample size is small, but I'm just throwing a few numbers out there...

Jay, the data you have is great, but it is unfortunatly very small(only 1 season). Let us know what happens after next season, etc. Thanks a lot!

Anyway, to supplement your data, the Commish himself posted the following table that contains 5 seasons of homer data. Unfortunatly, he posted no average data and the homer data has gaps...Anyway, here goes:

HR Rating# of PlayersHR (per season)
290-310134.0
340-360134.6
390-410105.9
440-460411.6
480-500714.4

Jaysuade...have they simmed another season in there? I'd be curious to know the results

I'll get the data from my own league after season 1 and see what we get...

Sorry fellas for such a slow reply but I just installed a new Operating System and had to update some of my drivers for my hardware.I think I done the HR data for the second season but not the AVG.But from what I remember the AVG was consistent with the first data I posted.I see if I can't dig up the HR data and will post it later.

I don't minds collecting some more AVG data since the data above is inconsistant(ie, the 480-500 range, the 421-450 range, and the 376-420 range). Thanks a lot Jaysuade...much appreciated.
