This banter seems to have died off...
I did a complete offseason makeover, adding $55M in payroll, and it seems to be working as I have the best record in the ML. In a statement series, I beat the defending WS Champs, the Cardinals, 3 games to 1. I then took 3 of 4 from the division rival Giants and then 3 of 4 from the Mets. Now I get the 2-time defending AL Champs, the Mariners. This should be a good series... |

The mariners aren't the same anymore. Lots of lost players.

The Cubs have the best ERA and the best batting average in the NL but are only .500. I guess having the league's worst bullpen doesn't help!

The Mariners still have an awesome pitching rotation, but still probably the third best in L2 behind mine and Synocco's...

I guess the Royals get no respect. Won 7 of the first 8 games, took the first 2 games of the series from the mighty Yanks, lost an 11 inning affair in game 3 and then had the dreaded 7 run inning ruin a great pitching perfromance from my #4 starter. Could easily be 11-1 right now. My first 3 starters are to be feared, and I have a decent bullpen. If I could get 3 of my hitters with 430+ avg. to start hitting then the AL West title should be locked up.

could have, should have, would have...
I could easily be 12-0 if only I hadn't lost 3 games ;-)

I'll give props to a fellow Braves fan, the Royals could easily be 11-1 ;-)
Seriously, I'll take my rotation over yours and I'll take my lineup over yours...Hopefully I'll get a chance to trash you in the WS ;-)

hey all, I'm sorry as I haven't been as active as in the past. Not to make excuses but I have had soccer tryouts this past week, and the upcoming week and I've just been exhausted. I should be able to be back into the swing of things next weekend. I'm still checking in game emails and such, so if you think I'm being too inactive let me know. If not, next weekend I'll be my usual trading self.

Chris, too bad our teams don't meet before the WS. It would be a showdown. Just for clarification, lets examine our starting rotations, since you would choose yours over mine.
Royals Rotation Record: 9-2 ERA: 2.44 K's: 66 Annual cost: $14.2M
Astros Rotation Record: 6-2 ERA: 2.89 K's: 48 Annual cost: $39.8M
OK, everyone which one would you choose? I rest my case. ;-)

ahhh...but 3 weeks isn't everything and I'm paying Clemens $25M which is a MISTAKE. Don't worry about cost...I'm George Steinbrenner!! My staff ratings-wise kicks your arse ;-)
Astros' Staff:
Bohanon: 450-445-500-500 Clemens: 384-419-472-484 Bergman: 443-383-482-385 Dreifort: 400-313-475-421
AVG Rating = 434.75
Royals' Staff:
Mark Clark: 415-500-500-500 Scott Downs: 469-442-424-428 Omar Daal: 460-354-413-439 Corey Brittan: 498-367-289-338
AVG Rating = 427.25
Yours isn't too much worse, and is cheaper. BUT, I like my lineup as well, and I'm sure my lineup is cheaper...
We'll see where it's at at the end of the year... :)

Does anyone think it was weird that all of the losers in Game 1 for each series combined for only 4 runs (including 6 shutouts)? Perhaps this is an indication that the Commish has adjusted his sim to make "aces" more consistent.

After 3 years of losing, I soon will be able to win with my amazing farm system which I have been building for the 3 years. Good Luck to all during free agent bidding and to those in the playoffs!

MR MET: Your farm system is truly one of the best, but I think you'll need to make several big acquisitions over the off season to be .500 next season.

I definitely agree with you. I don't plan on winning for another 2 years or so. By then, my pitchers will have matured and we will be ready to roll.

I started out with a fairly competitive team, but absolutely no farm system. I've tried to maintain competitiveness while rebuilding a farm system. It's hard to win consistently year after year, however, since most players only have about 7-8 of productivity before they retire.

What a dominating year dodgers is having, i guess that makes up for their underachieving year last year. Gotta feel bad for chris though, all that postseason aquisitions

Heading into the post season with my ace Ramos on the DL. Hopefully Colon can rise to the occasion and my struggling bullpen can keep it together. Good luck to Put me in Coach, JD, and skinneej!

Thanks, Synocco. It was tough keeping those pesky Mariners at bay, but their 3 year run on the AL West is over! I thought I was done after getting swept by those sorry Cubs in week 10! ;) Now I can only hope for a rematch in the WS.
Chris, what happened? Well, to revisit our starters final totals, our top 3 pitchers had pretty comparable stats. I never really had a good 4th starter until the last few weeks when Priest filled in nicely going 5-0 with a 3.20 ERA. My team ERA was much better though as my bullpen was pretty strong, except for my closer blowing 4 games. He may find himself with a new role soon!

skineej: It'll be a good rematch in the WS if we make it that far. I like your chances against the Yanks, but not my own versus the Dodgers.
Eddie Priest was a mainstay in my rotation while he was with the Cubs. Always liked that guy. I'd like to see the Cubs beat the crap out of him in Game 4 of the WS to complete the sweep even more though. ;)

Man...that was totally bogus...Well, you can't buy a championship. I've learned that. It takes team chemistry. So that's what I'll be working on this year ;-)
Seriously, I look to seriously improve my team. It appears that my enitre team underacheived. The only constant in my pen was Blake Mayo who has just been dominant since I've given him the closer role. He went 5-0 with a with a 2.25ERA and 19 saves this season. More importantly, I didn't lose a single game in which he entered. He's already the career NL saves leader despite being around for only 3 seasons. Other than that, my bullpen was the crappiest bunch of underacheivers I've ever seen. My lineup is solid, cheap, and DEEP. My rotation looks very good once again, though it needs a hole filled. My bullpen will hopefully be made stronger in the offseason and I hope to make a run at the Dodgers this year. The NL West is truly competetive, having 3 different winners the first 3 seasons. You can count on me to make some postseason acquisitions, so don't rest on your laurels yet. Never count out the Astros...
skineej - I really didn't expect my bullpen to fall flat on it's face. My starters were better ratings-wise, but couldn't get the job done. My lineup should have hit .300 easily but couldn't get it done. I see a 40-win season in the cards for me this year and I hope to see you in the WS...Unfortunatly a 40 win season may not be enough with the Dodgers around...

Yes, free agent bidding is getting out of hand. But so is Chris's ego and I'm not sure there is anything we can do about either one.

Bidding is out of hand because a good number of those FAs won't become free agent after the 1 year contract expires. For example, if you sign Carmody to a 1 year 30 million dollar deal( it appears somebody already has) you get to keep him for another 4 years. So it would end up being something like 8-9M/year for 5 years. This also applies to Amaral and a number of other players.

Well, there is always room for trash talking - that's part of what makes fantasy games fun. However, stuff like declaring oneself "manager of the year" and persistent self back-patting may create an atmosphere which makes other managers feel less comfortable, resulting in less amicable discourse. I would propose that Chris keep in mind who his audience on this board is. Aside from that, I'm happy that you provide a competitive and active opponent in the league. Just my $0.02.

For the record:
"Yes, free agent bidding is getting out of hand. But so is Chris's ego and I'm not sure there is anything we can do about either one."
This sounds a lot like "amicable discourse" to me...I was trash talking and Damn Yankees understood, and gave me some playful(at least I hope so :)) ribbing. That is what trash talking is all about...

Is that a joke!!! 125mil for Carmody!!! Which team is insane? There is no way of NOT going bankrupt! It seems to be a team that is quiting our league, unless......it is the Astros! I know they have a lot of cash and a history of paying top dollar but damn!

Chris....damn. I saw what happened! I guess they fixed the loop hole. I didn't like the use of a loop hole to improve a team but this is a harsh "punishment". I use the word "Punishment" loosely because it is SWB's own fault not to fix the problem.
I hope you will stick with your team because you are a great coach and have be a great competitor. DONT GIVE UP!!! You still have solid players on your team.
