What constitutes as one year of service in the majors? If I bring up a guy from AAA and then send him down the next week, does this count as 1 year at the end of the season? If not, what is the threshhold at which it qualifies as a season of service? |

I'm not absolutely sure, but i know that a player can get a year of major league service without ever playing a game. I have seen this happen. My hunch is that if a player is on the MLB roster at any point during the season, it counts as a year of MLB service, even if he doesn't play.

I think Bean Dip is correct. I'd seen it posted that a player had to play in a game to have it count as a year of MLB service but I've noticed that if you bring up a player with no MLB service time and he doesn't play he still gets 1 year of MLB service the next season. Weird isn't it.

If a player is on the 24 man (MLB) roster during ONE game, he gets charged with one year MLB service, even if he rode the pine during that game.

what if he gets called up and sent down 5 seconds later, without a "week" simming? I assume by your definition he is NOT assessed a year in the MLB...

You can send a player up and down as much as you want, and he will NOT be charged with a years MLB service as long as he is not on the MLB roster during a sim.

Asif is correct and he didn't have to use a life line!
