0 Subject: L2 Season 4

Can you believe it's season 4 already? We've sure had an interesting start to this season, courtesy of the Astros. It'll be even more interesting to see how the intrigue unravels over the next few days... Bohannon and Carmody can significantly shift the balance of power in the league depending on where they go.

As it stands, it looks like Dodgers have a lock on a post season berth already... the question being, will they win 50? Of course, the Astros may yet surprise, and you can never count out the Giant's offense.

The NL East has been significantly weakened by the departure of Chaik, but the Cubs and Cardinals should duke it out for top spot. Mets are most likely still a season or two from serious contention.

In the AL, it looks like the Royals are the clear favourites, but the Mariners have enough veterans to make a lot of noise. The Yankees should be able to defend the AL East crown, but this may be their last good shot at a World Series ring in a few years. The Orioles will give them a run for their money.

Red Sox loosened the purse strings over the offseason... can their pitching take them over the .500 mark? Indians look like they are still firmly entrenched in the rebuilding process.

Best of luck to all the managers. May your WHIP be low and the injury bug spare us all. And may you all stop bidding on Bohannon right now! ;)

You AL leaguers are so lucky with Indians in your league:). That team is so screwed up that it won't be competitive for the next umpteen years.

My guess is that it'd take at least 6 seasons to bring Indians back to competitive status.

Well i'm glad that this message board finally got active. It took an arguement but, at least we're talking. LOL!

I thought I had a better team than the Astros also. Actually I think I was favored the last 3 years to win the west but I will fire myself if I can't win next year!!! I say this every year (month)!

I agree that we should eliminate the "trading unsignable players" trick.

As for signing players like Carmody/Amaral, I will go with whatever everyone else wants.

Wow, I could not believe the outcome of the AL playoff game. Clark pitched poorly and was outdueled by fellow Cy Young candidate Pedro Martinez, but the Mariner closer totally blew the game in the top of the 9th. 8 Runs!!! Wow! Also, my move to put my number 2 starter in middle relief for that game paid off as Downs threw 4 innings of shutout ball to allow the big comeback. Ok, Yanks...time for another classic series! Let's keep the title in the AL (Man I can't believe I said that being a real life NL fan)! ;)

The Cubbies have turned up a notch during the final month of the season, and Astros has been a suprise(sorry chris, I expected coach to make the post)all season long. Hopefully, between two of us (GO CUBS!!:P), there is enough fire power to bring the World Series to the NL for the first time!

You have all the fire power this year...I'm just along for the ride...

That offseason fiasco killed my pitching and my bankroll...hopefully I can find a way to win 8 more games.

This was probably my best team and I strugled winning under 40% my last 8 weeks and that is with a sweep in the final week.
I was 4-4 vs. the BRAVES by the way.

Well, looks like a WS rematch. Great series, Yanks. You pushed me to the edge. I could use some bullpen help as I couldn't hold a lead it seemed until the last game. Whew! Okay Cubs, it's a short lived celebration as I know it's going to be a hard fought series. Good Luck!

The Cubs OWN the Royals during the regular season: 7-1 record over the past 2 years... but lost 4-1 in last year's WS. I predict a Cubbies win in 7 this time around. Of course, my opinion may be slightly biased. :)

I predict the Royals in 5. I really wanted to play for the series this season, unfortunately the Royals own the Yanks. I'm holding my breath that I don't suffer massive retirement.

Well, the new sim has helped me in some areas, and hurt me in others. My hitting and top 2 starters have been great since the new sim was put in place, but my bullpen has been horrible. The pitchers I had assembled into my bullpen were great last year and the first half of this season before the change. None of them were stars, but they served their intended purpose.

Ryan Price was my main guy and he filled my middle relief role perfectly. He was instrumental in my winning last year and had a ERA around 1.4 thru 40 innings of relief this season. He's had an ERA over 11 since the new sim. Guys like Urbina and Goldsmith were great even with low ratings in control because they were very good in the other three. Urbina had 10 saves and a ERA of around 2.5 this season before the new sim. He has not registered a save since (partly because I moved him to setup after a couple blown saves) and his ERA is now at 5.14. The only pitcher in my pen that has been better since the new sim is Jim Johnson. I wish I could use him in all the spots.

I spent some time comparing ratings between the Cubbies and the Royals.
For hitters I took the 9 hitters with the highest Avg rating and took the average of their AVG,HR,GAP and SPEED. And for Pitchers i just added up all 4 stats for all 4 starters and devided by 4 to get the "avg sum rating" (i.e a starter with 1600 rating would mean he could have stats of 400,400,400,400)
here are the stats

Hitting:

Cubs 472.78 371.33 373.11 360.11
Royals 475.56 387.67 351.78 369.78

Pitching:
Cubs: 1747.00
Royals: 1738.75

So indeed the two teams are very close in every category. And it showed in the first week of the world series. With exception of Clark and his 1915 rating that is:)

Well, looks like the Cubbies will win this one barring a miracle. The games were all close, and then my shaky bullpen gave away game 4. The problem is deciding where to put Jim Johnson. I had him in the middle relief role for all the games, but my starters pitched well enough that he didn't have an impact. I figure if I can keep the games close that my offense can win the games and someone else can close them out. It worked against the Yanks, but I may need to switch up my pitchers for these last games.

The CUBS might have made the greatest comeback from a horrible start and might win it all. I guess, I still have hope next year.

I just looked over my team (Dodgers) and Chris'(Astros) team and realized that neither one of us is losing anyone to free-agency. And it doesn't look like we will lose any of our stars to retirement. Look out everyone and good luck next season.

Yeah, we got off to a horrible start. Treaded water until a 4-game sweep suffered at the hands of the Yankees. It seemed like the season was all but lost, but thankfully the players turned things around and there was no truly dominant team in the NL East.

Cubs will probably lose a lot of key guys to retirements/free agency, and my AAA is still 2 away from really supplying me with any decent talent. I'll probably have to trade away some premium minor league talent to get replacements.

Nice job in the WS, Cubbies. My Royals should be the favorite in the AL to return to the series since no one decided to retire. My bullpen is the only area I need to work on in the off-season, and it will need some major overhauling.

Not that I usually spend much money on free agents, but isn't this like the worst bunch you have ever seen?

I lost Aramis Ramirez to retirement. I could have been hit harder. However, he was my best player. Nice to unload the 17 million a year salary though.

Ahoy everyone. Very interesting info about the loopholes. I never received the e-mail way back when, and I was pissed when I didn't get to bid on Carmody. Are we still using the loopholes? And if not, why is somebody paying a minor league catcher 40 million dollars? Also, am I doing something wrong financially? I've maintained an average of 30-40 million dollars the last few years, while apparently some guys have double that. Is there something I'm missing?

I find it interesting that there is a bidding war on minor leaguers in the first week. No minor league players will sign until after the third week, so why bid now.

MR BLONDE. - I don't see anyone getting 40mil but, there is a signing bonus for about 17mil?. You can't use a loophole on a signing bonus. You have to pay that upfront.

I am not going to use any loopholes with my dodgers.

Having 20M rosters is a good way to accumulate money, regardless of the record. Making the post season is another option:)
I find that by finishing 2nd or 3rd place in a division could really hurt ones finance if his roster value is over 50M.
Does anybody agree with me that the gate revenue for post season should NOT be depended on the teams record? Earning under 3M/week for gate revenue in NLCS was rediculous(fans won't go watch championship games because regular season record is under .600 ???). But thats for the commish to fix, so I'll quit my whining here:)

I wouldn't say I'm free-agent crazy, although I did get burned on the Sexton signing. I offered the money thinking I was in a bidding war with the same guy I was bidding against for Bertotti. I thought my offer would be topped, and I could continue chasing Bertotti. The opposite happened, and now I'm out of the Bertotti sweepstakes.

Of course, that doesn't mean I still can't ridiculously overpay for some other lucky FA. Check your tickets, you may already be a winner!

I think the main player in this years FA market is the Braves, he does after all, "has more money that GOD". (Although I would be suprised if he has over 100M right now). As rich as the minor league FAs are this year, not many of them deserve what they are getting as signing bonus, 17 M for Dishington ? Give me a break, I would sell one of my 450 AVG guys for 15:). I guess the Braves are serious about buying a (winning?)team.

NL East look pretty tough this year as Mets's young hot prospects have mostly matured and Cardinals did not get hit hard with retirements. It sure would be interesting to see if anyone can end Cubbies two year reign as division champ:P. GO CUBBIES!!!

In the NL West, the departure of Chris made it a little bit unpredictable. But my money is on the Dodgers taking back the division title, and astros come close second. Padres however should not be underestimated. After acquiring Burton and Bautista form the Cubs in an off season trade, they look to make some noise this year competing with Astros for 2nd place, if not for first.

In the AL, the old rivalry between Yankees and Orioles looks to heat up again. While Yankees hope to continue with their success last year(.700 winning percentage? wow) with out the sure handed Ramirez, Orioles has made a few off season acquisitions and is a force to be reconed with.

The Royals, a two year world series finallist, is of course, expected to do well again this year. Should there be another rematch between the Cubs and the Royals? The Answer lies in the Mariners. After getting eliminated in a tie breaker last year, they are surely itching for revenge.

My final prediction for the next year is
NL East: Cubs
NL West: Dodgers
AL East: hmmm...
AL West: Royals

And although I may be biased, I also predict that There will be a rematch between the Cubs and Royals for the world series with Cubs winning it in 6.:)

We'll see about that. I just made a nice acquisition in getting Vinny Castilla to help bolster my already potent lineup, and I'm hoping rookie Darryl Scott will be a nice addition to my starting staff. Still have some questions in the bullpen, but we'll see how it shakes out. The Mariners will still be pretty good and I know they are ready to take me out after that 8 run 9th inning in the playoff game. The Yanks are still the team in the AL East, and who cares about the NL anyway! ;) Just send any old team, it doesn't matter. The AL will take the crown back and I plan to do it!

This was a pitiful team and I have been here since day 1. I am very happy at the team we have become, and will become because my minors are still stacked. Hold on to your seats....I was just offer a deal from the Braves....It involves, 9players, 2draft picks and 30mil.
I would give him 8 players mostly pitchers, including NORTON and RODRIQUEZ for a prospect, and his first to picks next year. He would also give me 30mil of which I must pay back 10 mil at the time he gives me those draft picks.
Interesting trade.
