He just passed a year recently. He only played in 15 games previously, so I would call that a rookie. He'll be a rookie for my team awards, but if you don't think he should be eligible for league ROY, I'll buy that.

Yeah, Sexyman467...

An arguement arose in one of my other leagues about rookie of the year eligibility. I think I was the only one who thought that someone who only played like 10 games or so in one year should still qualify as a rookie. I will say qualify Hunter for ROY.
***NEWSFLASH***
In a small effort to catch the Astros, the Padres acquire Wonderful Monds for fast improving prospect Juan Encarnacion. Will this help the Padres catch the Astros or just hinder the rebuilding process for next year?

I have no rookies but my two 2nd year players are kicking some tail. Erasmo Ramirez, who led the league in saves last year as a rookie, leads the league again this year and is 15 for 15 in save oppurtunties this year with a 1.80 ERA. That makes him 2-0 with 29 saves in 32 games in his first two years. My other guy who is still improving in his 2nd year is Jose Colon who is hitting .311 with 7 HR and 27 RBI. Also on a side note to show that stars don't always show full potential of players take a look at my SS Alex Cintron. 3 Star average but it's at 479 and still improving. In fact he's got the highest average rating of any 1st position SS under 30 years old in the league. Not bad for 3 stars, eh?

Funny, I think I almost had Cintron once upon a time, but was discouraged by the stars. Is it a reflection of managerial quality? Dumb luck?

I think we voted Erasmo as the ROY last year, but I never heard or saw actual results. Of course, it appears that the web page hasn't been updated in eons. Any updates planned, Slice?

Phew, the trading deadline is passed. Thank god. That was a nice little flurry there at the end. Pending retirements, I might have a busy "winter" as well. But now, it's playoff time. 16 games left, leading by 11. My magic number is 5.

Wow. I swept the Astros. You're welcome Padres!! That puts the Pads and Stros in a tie for first now. 4 more saves for Erasmo..talk about a good series. 8 Back with 12 to go is bad though. Mets, Cubs and Dodgers here I come!

The Indians are on fire! I think they started out slow just to give everyone else artificial hope. Now we have gotten to the last mile and they are kicking it in just to show everyone who's boss.

The NL West looks sad. The top two teams are 6-14 combined in there last ten games each. The bottom two teams are 13-7 combined over the same period.

Yankees and White Sox are fighting for the number one pick. How are the White Sox that bad? They have decent pitching. Jesse Travis is a very good young reliever. Borkowski and De Los Santos both have 3 of 4 categories higher than 400. Do they try to lose?

The White sox have one of the worst pitching farm systems I've seen in all the leagues I play in. His big league pitchers are getting old quick and he has only a handful of pitchers in his minors. He's really going to have his work cut out for him rebuilding that team. I still can't believe he traded away Marquez with the pitchers he has currently in his system.

Well, I split with Blue Hen, which is in itself an accomplishment. However, I'm 11 games back with 12 games to play, so I'm thinking that Bean Dip has yet another shot at the playoffs. Now, my team is playing for pride. I'm not so worried about the next series, but I then get the Orioles and Indians in back-to-back series from within the division. Hopefully I can do some mental damage to Bean Dip's club for next year.

On another note, Red Sox Upper Management has determined that the reason the Red Sox have failed to compete this year is Ben Petrick's play. This should come as no surprise to any true Red Sox fan, as while he leads the team with 16 homeruns, he is hitting a paltry .201 with 3 weeks left in the season. His OBP is a microscopic .289, the only regular on the team with an OBP lower then .300. Rookie Dave McCarty has more then proven his value to the Red Sox in his first Major League Season.

Well the "big 3" have pretty much locked up playoff births again. I still have to wait to see who I'm going to be matched up against in the NLCS. It's a dogfight in the NL West. If the Padres win, then while the other 3 divisions have sent the same team to the playoffs every year, every team in the NL West will have been at least once. Go Pads!!!!

Well, I intend to be the last of the "original four" eliminated. I should be fine for next year, although I have about a zillion guys who will probably retire.

Try this on for size...
B.J. Surhoff
Jose Canseco
Greg Vaughn
Rey Ordonez
Jaret Wright
Donovan Osbourne
Mickey Mantei
Terry Mathews

That's EIGHT all-stars I could lose. Ack, it's ok.

Your starting pitching is still more impressive than mine Great one. Until Shipp and Pavlas both come up I won't have a real 3rd or 4th starter. You have Pena at least in case Clark retires. Brower and Marte are only going to take me so far. It's amazing that none of my starters have losing records though, even Marte (who I still think is going to be good someday) with his ridiculous 7.13 ERA. He's 5-5 with that ERA, talk about run support, eh?

Yes but Brower might retire at year's end. Radke and Tapani have proved they might be able to give me some innings as well..Radke more than Tapani but Tapani's 499 fastball and 475 stamina make him a good potential inning eater.

Well, we clinched, but I gotta say there are two pretty darn good teams over there in the AL East. I'd watch out if I were you, Bean Dip.

Well, Brian Hunter keeps getting better and better. Even though he's only played half the season, his average exceeds that of the studs like Canseco, Ordonez, Vaughn, Rivas, Surhoff. Glad I was able to pull off that trade; I knew Hunter'd be good.

I split with the Giants, I can't beat them unless it doesn't matter, unbelievable. Ray King screws me twice. Just back from injury and blows two games. Damn, I could have been tied for the lead with the Astros, now I am two behind with 4 left.

Julio Rangel is MVP!!!!
for the Padres. He picks up my first win vs the Astros all season and josie wins the division by one game. Way to win the best top to bottom division in O2. 4 champs in 5 years, we promote diversity in the NL west.

Just to show I'm not some huge Josie fan could somebody tell me since there were 4 champs in 5 years, who won it twice???

Oh yeah. I have a test Wednesday night so I will probably update the webpage for the past two seasons late this week. My ROY nomination is for bob Higginson. Led myteam in Average and Slugging. Hit .313 with 5 homers and 13 RBI in 42 games.

Well, there goes another season lost to Bean Dip. Time to plan for next year...

My ROY Candidate is Dave McCarty, 1B. He played in all 64 games this season, hit .291, had 10 HR and 41 RBIs. He also had a .434 SLG percentage.

Are you kidding me? The first series I win is the last and it pushes me to the 2nd worst record in the league. I know for a fact my team is team is the worst in the league yet it somehow manages to not be the worst record wise. I could've tanked the season by pitching bums but I really don't think that is realistic. At least my team has something to build on for next year.

Congrats Josie and Beastie. Looking forward to the LCS Bean Dip.

My Rookie of the Year candidate will probably be yours too. Brian L. Hunter batted .341 with a .452 OBP. Simply put, those are awesome numbers and with all due respect to the rest, he is our man for ROY.

That probably makes up for the fact that I didn't win any other awards or lead the league in much.

Well that depends on what qualifies a rookie I guess. Great One's Darryl Scott was 11-1 with a 2.33 ERA he had been in 18 games last year but then again Hunter played in 15 games last year as well. Also Wendall Magee had played 20 games last year but hit .298 with 9 Hr's and 39 RBI.

As true rookies go (no MLB experience), Matt Stairs for the Orioles hit .302 with 7 Hr's and 30 RBI. The Giants' Bobby Higginson hit .313 in 182 AB with 5 Hr's and 13 RBI.

If you're going to vote for a ROY, I think it should be someone who's played the whole season though, not only a few weeks. You can't assume Hunter would have hit that well the entire season had he played it.

It's some good analysis, Eric. Obviously, I am still going to go with Hunter. As for Scott, I think he's in a different situation. 18 games as a pitcher (especially a starter) is pretty much a full season. 15 games for a hitter is a mere trial. You might disagree that Hunter is a rookie, but you can't really argue with Scott's rookie status.

You are also right that Hunter might not have stayed at .341 all season long. However, his stats were quite good all around and he played for a division winning team (if you count such stuff).

It's probably Magee or Higginson in the NL.

We've always done it that only players with 0 years MLB experience were eligible, so that's how I am going to continue voting until we have a vote or something to determine otherwise. That being said, I have no ROY candidates :)

Where did everyone go? How did retirement hit everyone? I lost my closer and #2 starter. And on top of that my newly acquired young gun starter won't resign with me. I only had him for about 4 weeks and he already doesn't wanna stay with me. Anyone want Jim Johnson?

I'm around but I can't seem to get onto gsb today. Quite annoying. I am almost certain that I didn't lose anyone to retirement since my whole team is well under 30. I might be interested in Johnson if I can ever get onto GSB to check his age and stats. I have him in a few other leagues and he's a solid pitcher. Grats to BD for winning yet again and to Great One for getting there again as well. Depending on retirements (G.O's that is), I may compete myself next year. Let the trading begin!

Hollandsworth was too young to die. Arod and Boone, i don't mind as much, but Hollandsworth... Oh well, I guess some other guys are going to have to step it up.

On a positive note, my team salary dropped over $23 mil when those three retired.

Yeah, I got hit pretty hard. I lost Rivas, Ordonez, Surhoff, and Mathews. Somehow, none of my starting pitchers retired, which means that I will be shopping Jason Shiell and Jaret Wright in an attempt to score a decent infield. If you need starting pitchers, they are about as good as you'll find this side of the promised land.

That's about it for trades... I can't wait to see the complete web site.

I'm ready for the season. Unlike the Rabgers and Indians, I actually lucked out with retirement, with only Ortiz calling it quits. Although peterman seems ready to contribute, my production at first drops off a little. Hopefully that will be made up for by my new and improved bullpen, led by Lance "The best damn closer in the game" Caraccioli.

Let's rock!!!!!!

I don't like Caraccioli. I had him in another league where for three seasons straight he had a 5+ ERA and blew more than Monica Lewinsky. It's that 299 change. What's with that? 299? Random.

Well I have him in two other leagues , and he's been my MVP in one of them.
1-0 1.29 ERA 18/19 saves 21 innings, 10 baserunners, 18 K's
In the other, he got injured for the year with a .90 ERA.

At 7+ million a year, I'll bet he likes you too ;-)

I'm happy with Erasmo at 2 million a year myself :)

With your lineup it's not like you'll have that many save opportunities anyhow. I still can't believe you only lost Ortiz. That's just unfair. Griffey and Clark should have called it quits. :(

Ray and Hackman are coming up for Shiell and Bottalico can be had cheap.
