Subject: David Lewy... (draft discussion)

For those of you who aren't in his league, Lewy says the draft is strong the way it is. I disagree. There are no players even a year away from the bigs in any draft. Anyone remember Frank Thomas? John Olerud? Alex Rodriguez? I have a tremendous MLB team and a loaded farm system, but the White Sox in my league are dying because they have nothing and the draft doesn't really give them too much of value. I think the next step should be to improve the draft... |

I think the biggest problem is that not enough players make it to free agency. The fact that players automatically re-sign after being traded is ridiculous. If free agency was less of a joke then the speed of talent flow would increase. Thus, bad teams would have a better chance of acquiring talent. Increasing the draft would just increase the overall talent in the league, which isn't really needed. What is needed is a better way of spreading the talent around.

it doesn't matter how strong the draft is, because its fair ball to everyone.

I agree Synnoco. Free Agency is a joke. The scarcity of talent available in free agency and the ridiculous salaries offered make improving through free agency a waste of time.

It's not the same to everyone. If I'm stacked, I don't need anything out of the draft, and it doesn't matter that I have 14th pick in the draft. Whoever has first pick should be at a significant advantage. The plan is to help teams that aren't as good improve.

Ya you are stacked now, but you will be weaker in 4-5 years prodivide niether you, or the worst team in the league make any stupid trades, and both pick amature drafts effectively.
