0 Subject: Help! Is this Cheating

Here is the scenario, all stats are ficticious:

The world series has just ended and the free agent period starts. I have a monster 25 yr old hitter (.330 and 11 hrs)who has just finished his third year.
When I tried to resign him, he won't negotiate, opting to wait for free agency.

I'm pi$$ed, so I find a friendly manager in my game that has the same situation with his 26 yr old stud SP that just went 10-2. We make a deal to trade our unsignable player for the other's. Then immediately, retrade the same players back to each other. Our teams are exactly as they were before the trade, except that each of can sign our stud player(a traded player will negotiate with the new team). The wrinkle is, a few lesser minor or major legue players are included in the first trade, but not returned to their original owners giving the transaction the flavor of a trade(but for the inclusion of players who could not be resigned and now can be).

I've seen this twice in League V the last two free agency periods. When complained about to the commish, he asked that I post and get feed back.
What better informed, more insightful group exists than Gurupies. (This was done by the 3 time defending division champ)

My feedback: (1)kick managers out of game because of their underhanded actions and attempted cover-up (make the transaction look like a trade) and (2)To prevent this in the future, there should be an absolute prohibition against any team re-obtaining the rights to any player traded for a minimum of two complete seasons.

Please tell me your thoughts. I would like for the commish to see if other managers approve of this type transaction or are against it.

This same thing happened in P2 this season. I was actually one of the guilty parties. What we decided to do was go back to the original trade (without swapping back) and the other manager threw in a couple other players to even it out. I think banning the managers from GSB is a little harsh, don't you? After all, this is a free game and nothing illegal was done at all. Anyway, it would probably be a good idea to set up some kind of unwritten rule regarding this situation in your league...

Yeah..Whitey...probably a little harsh. I'm as upset with the attempt to cover it up as I am with the transaction. I should focus instead on a solution to the scenario and stop running around yelling OFF WITH THEIR HEADS...

I like the idea of having the second half of the trade eliminated, leaving only the first trade 'on the books'

I think there is nothing wrong with swapping potential free agents. But trading to get them back is wrong, IMO. The only solution i can come up with is to not allow a team to reaquire a player they traded, for at least a season.

Until a rule is made to prohibit this, no one should have any reason to complain about it. I wanted to keep my catcher who wouldn't resign and someone else in my league wanted to keep his star outfielder who wouldn't sign. I offered him the chance to trade and sign deals to which he agreed and we included signing bonus fees with both of us signing and re-trading the players back to each other afterwards. Since anyone in the league can do it, it's not unfair. You still have to find an owner you trust enough to deal in this way and that's not always a given in some leagues. Not only that, but there is always the chance the other manager will take your player and keep him. There is no such rule as a "gentleman's agreement" in GSB. Granted, I would never do that but the rules don't say it's illegal either. Just my 2 cents.

Kind of like how the Astros in O2 are playing Kenny Lofton at catcher... and leading the league in runs...

After further review.....

League V has determined that the "Boomerang" is the standard in that league and is quite legal since there is no rule against it. The few responses here seem to indicate that it is no big deal. So the masses have spoken. I'll relay to the commish...I am so ashamed.
