MVP voting already started on my team with 17rbis for Ramirez and 5Hrs for Hundley. I'm just kidding but right now I guess they have a great start.
Good Luck to all but the defending champs..the Cubs. |

Has anyone noticed that the Mariners made 44 roster moves week 1?
Who said Blue Hen is comparible to Chris formally of the Astros?

Lots of interesting happenings in the league. The Norton trade is huge... but given Brad Clontz' stamina, is he really worth the money he's asking for long term deal? Saw a Mets OF make 4 errors in one game while trying to play SS--that was funny. Both the Yanks and Cubs acquire heavy hitting 1B... is a WS rematch possible? Not if the Dodgers have anything to say about that I guess.

Yeah, that was a riot. NEVER put an OF at shortstop! Unfortunately, I will have to deal with the errors, because I am loaded at OF and have no SS. Not much I can do...hey I still won that game 8-6.
I am taking a poll: Who feels it is okay to put a player out of position? I am okay with it because you can't beat the system, because you will get nailed with tons of errors. With that being said if anyone would like to make a deal for their SS I would be willing to give up an OF. AJ Hinch is also on the block. (471 AVG)

I think some substitutions are ok. Last year I played a catcher at 1B... this happens all the time in real life since 1B is not a very taxing position. However, some substitutions like playing an OF at SS or an OF at C is questionable. Although, in the case of the former the results can be humorous. :)

B.Clontz HEALTH FAST BREAK CHANGE CONTROL STAMINA 217..........458.........481..........378..........484...........137
I'm more worried about his health thanhis stamina. But when he's pitching he should be one of the best. At 7 mil a year he's no bargain but luckily I can afford him.
As for playing players out of position, it is up to the owner. I have Hundley at 1B, which is his secondary position and I get killed each year with his errors. He averages about 10 a year and he is at 410 or so on defense.

QUESTION: How much would you give up for a 38yrs old top quality hitter? A team wanted my best 2 prospects. I oviously rejected that offer!

Scott Hatteburg isn't worth your 2 best prospects. Heck, he isn't even worth my 2 best prospects. ;)

First of all, I didn't ask for anything-you made two seperate offers to me for Jose Hernandez. The first included your 7th best hitting prospect and a 28 yr. old relief pitcher who doesn't rank in your top 20 prospects. The other offer was two players over 26, a 6 star hitting prospect and another relief pitcher, neither of which are ranked in your top 20 prospects. Not only did you want Hernandez in that deal, but you wanted me to throw in 2 million dollars as well. Very generous of you.
I countered by asking for your top hitting prospect, Clapp, and your 8th ranked hitting prospect, a 1B named Quaccia-whom I didn't think it was out of line to ask for since you also have a 12 star 23 yr old 1B in your system. I also said I'd throw in some cash to get the deal done. You rejected the offer, then came to this board to scoff at me, albeit anonymously.
Again, you came to me-I don't need to move Hernandez. He's a serious hitter, and a great clubhouse guy. He also makes a mean crab-salsa dip. I'd move him for a fair offer, which you didn't make. As loaded as your farm system is, you should be ashamed of the offers you made. ASHAMED, I say! Now, I'd type more, but I have a self-imposed 3-paragraph posting limit on free-league newsboards.

He's 38 yrs old! After this season ends what will you have? Nothing! Ripken is a pretty good 3B. File is a 27yr old but has a good chance to be a solid 400+ pitcher at 28 or so.
Also 11mil per year is alot! I only pay Ramirez that kind of money and he is averaging 2rbi's per game right now.
Anyone in my top 10 hitters are all borderline allstars and NO I wont trade them for a 1 year player with a high salary.
Clapp is a 12-star player and Quaccia has 4 stars at BA and HR. That is asking alot.

I think if you trade with a contender you should expect to give up more than what you might give otherwise to a non-contending team. I think the Giants have spoiled Coach a little. ;)

I one year player isn't worth a 12 star prospect that is already in AAA. He should be the best 2B in the league 2 or 3 season from now.

Sound the alarms! Someone in the league has performed the old "demote to minors to negate a major league contract" trick. OK, so the guy was only getting 3 million this year... but he would have gotten a lot higher as a free agent had the loophole been fair game.

It actually happened by accident, because I didn't think the loophole was still open. I usually promote/demote a player by clicking on their name and then click on what options are available. I signed Osuna to a 1 year $3M deal in the offseason with the intention of holding him until the end of this season when he would be arbitrated to a lesser contract. When I clicked on Osuna's name there was no option to promote/demote only to release him or sign him to a longer deal. Yesterday, I was looking at all my relief pitchers under the move function, and went to switch two pitchers. After clicking on the update button, Dixon and Osuna didn't appear at the top. For some reason they were moved all the way to the bottom of the list below the A players. In the process of trying to get them back to the proper place, Osuna's salary was dropped. At that point I put him back in AAA of course. If you look at the transactions you will see the blank parenthesis beside those two players. Don't know how it happened but it did.

The Indians farm system is a joke. The only player with a 4-star AVG rating is a starting pitcher! He doesn't need money, he needs every other major league team to donate one player from their MLB roster.

Us Cubs are willing to do it, if everyone else does. But maybe not donating it, more like selling it for cheap, since i assume indians do have a surplus of cash. We need a more competitive league, and getting the indians back on track is a step towards that goal. From what i see and heard so far, the present owner is far more active than the idiot that ran the show before and seems willing to rebuilt the team.

This was an extremly weak draft class. There was only a hand full of quality players. I guess it didn't hurt that only a few teams set up their draft properly.

Here are some L2 WS results as I remembered:
Season 1 : Mariners Defeat Braves Season 2 : Cardinals Defeat Mariners (or is it Mariners over the Cards?) Season 3 : Royals Defeat Cubs Season 4 : Cubs Defeat Royals Season 5 : Cubs Defeat Yankees
It would be nice if we start keeping track of our leagues statistics. But above if pretty much all I can recall, did anyone else kept track?:)

On behalf of the Cardinals, I'll nominate Marlon Anderson for ROY. .332 AVG, 34 RBI, 3 HR, 34 R, 14 SB (52 games played)
Other candidates for ROY in the NL include Jovino Carvajal, Jose Vizcaino, and Tomokazu Ohka, but none are as good as Marlon Anderson IMHO.

And look like you might be able to do it again, luck just didn't go the Cubs way this season, not only did we lose 3 games in a row to lose the WS, we also lost 2 ace starters and a ace RP to retirements. But rest assured, we are not ready to rebuilt yet, not for another 2 years anyway:)

I would like to be able to talk players out of retirement. Jose Canseco just turned 34 on week 20 and he retires. I wasn't expecting it at all. I know if I could get to talk to him for one hour he would change his mind. Oh well.

I actually got off pretty easy. It just funny that I was preparing to lose certain players and didn't and then I loose two players that just turned 34. I have a 41 year old player in another league that I have grooming his replacement for 6 seasons now. I think his backup will retire before he does. The not knowing what is going to happen makes the game fun!
