It is time for a new thread. Could it be time for a changing of the guard in a few divisions? It's springtime and hope is racing through everyone's blood. The known Gurupie teams are:
AL EAST Bean Dip--Indians Eustacio--Red Sox Beastiemiked--Yankees
AL WEST Blue Hen--Rangers Scott--Royals
NL EAST The Great One--Braves Dev--Cubs Eric Freda--Cardinals
NL WEST Stick--Dodgers Josie--Padres |

Yeah, I'm in the same boat Eric, though I think all retirements are taken care of, as I lost 1 guy to retirement. The other guys I had eligible I believe were both scrubs who I'm keeping for this year and letting go at the end of the year. Waiting on a resolution here so I can work on a couple trades.
BTW, looking for Middle Infield help, toss me a line if you've got something that can help us both.

I am pretty anxious as well. Commish hasn't made me a subscriber yet and I cannot see the proposed trade offers.
I forgot what it was like as a child, seeing Xmas presents under the tree and not being able to open them.
In my other leagues I can count my pitcher victories and see how many games I won, but would still like to have the sim completed.

I still can't believe my team won the Series. I don't think they we were the best team by any means, I guess it's true that anything can happen in a short series. Good luck to all next season, and hopefully this free agency thing gets straightened out.

Well the way your pitchers pitched you could've scored 2 runs per game and still won. Good pitching can lead any team to the series. If your guys are on, you've always got a chance. Luck always helps too :)

I'm looking for a 4th starter. Right now I have Jake Robbins in the slot, and while he's good (and getting better), he is definitely a step down from Donovan "Crazy Train" Osbourne. I have a number of players available to package, including catcher Alex Andreopolous (460-418), Dan Ramirez (407-482), Robbins, and any number of minor leaguers.
I'd prefer someone under 30 (or even under 27), but I will consider all offers.

What is the deal with the Astros? I can't even get the moron to negotiate with me, yet he gets continually bent over a table by the other managers in the league. He may be the worst manager in the league, and I can't even take advantage of it....lol.

I have no idea why you would feel the need to call some a moron. Then again I haven't seen his history of trades.
That's not to say that Hernandez for "Wild Thing" wasn't the worse trade I have ever seen in GSB.
On the lighter side, I just happen to have been negotiating with Blue Hen at the time the trade went through and had an offer in for Hernandez. Imagine my surprise when I reloaded the Rangers and there was the player I was trying to get.
If you want to deal with the Astro's owner get his AOL IM name and he will chat with you.

I call him a moron because he tells one team that a guy isn't available, without even hearing an offer, only to trade him the next week for next o nothing. I also call him a moron because he had a team that was at the top, and ran it into the ground, with virually NOTHING in his minor league system. I also call him a moron because it is suspected that he rund TWO teams in this league (he claims one belongs to his roommate) and both of them are terrible.

Obviously, I'm not going to complain about my new acquisitions. However, I agree that someone who runs two teams should have at least one decent one. Honestly, I don't see much need for anyone to have a team that bad for that long.
I wonder how his other teams are.

I am in a league with him in P (same division actually). It is a near carbon copy of his team here. He had an old team stacked with "original guys" that was good for a couple of seasons, but as those guys retired, he had nothing to replace them. I got in this league, and it was one of my two "rebuilding" teams. There were about 40 players in my organization when I got the team, none of which even had MLB potential. I won the division last season, and another team is winning it this season, while the Astros (same Astros as this league), is mired in last with no future.

Nice to see Free Agency didn't get fixed. Now I'm stuck with a couple of bums eating up salary.

My e-mail to the Commish on our free agent problem went unasnwered. My guess is that he was so busy with the other problems, that he just decided to ignore ours.
It actually helps me mostly as I had a couple of key players who were up for free agency next season, who I will be guaranteed at least one more season with. My luck always seems to dictate that I can never resign the players I really want to.

Yeah, I'm fairly satisfied if this is how it turns out. Even though I wasn't going to lose anyone this year, it allows me to keep guys under contract for that much longer.

Wow, now the commish really screwed up FA. I've got 5 players left on my mlb roster and I know they were not supposed to be FA's this year.

My team is seriously ficked up. Like i said i managed to lose some players that definitely shouldn't of been FA's plus 2 of my guys got pay raises even though they should still be making the league minimum, Juan Encarcion and Chris Dingman. Also Masato Yoshii, somehow has 3 year mlb experience eventhough he's never played in a game nor have i ever had him on my mlb roster.

Mine is messed up too. Tommy Peterman has only been in the league 2 whole seasons, but he shows up as having 4 years MLB experience and won't freakin resign with me. Not to mention, I could've sworn I signed him to a long contract last season, but I'm not certain. Either way, he hasn't been in the league 4 seasons.

I sent a letter to the commish explaining what happened. I doubt it will get fixed. I just wish he would've kept it the way it was, instead of screwing it up even worse.

Look at some of the free agents. BH got screwed. Hernandez is listed as 9 years experience, 9 years MLB experience

The same thing happened to me with Kirgan. I've had him in the Majors for 2 years, now he's listed as having 4 and I lost my chance to resign him, as he won't resign now. My guess is that when the Commish went through to fix the FA, it "fixed" the sim by going back a season w/o deleting the years of service that were added on by the end of Season 7. Then, it resimmed to where we are now, and added the extra year of service. If that is as badly written as it seems, here it is broken down:
Season 7 Ends, +1 Years to Service Commish Changes FA by moving season back Sim Ends Season 7 Again, +1 to Years of Service

Another point of note is that the Season 7 stats don't show up individually, indicating that a "ghost season" was simmed somewhere.

Finally, the last piece of "DUH" evidence of a Ghost Sim...it says we're in Week 23...OF SEASON 8!

it looks like the ghost sim just took place in the majors because, the minor leaguers seem to be fine has far as years pro, the rookies from last year only have 1 year of pro experience.

I sent the commish an e-mail outlying what I thought happened in hopes of speeding up the process of getting this fixed, if at all possible. I included your note about the minor leagues as well, beastiemiked.

What if the commish can not fix the problem? Those that cannot resign some of their players that have 4 years mlb experience now will lose them eventhough they shouldn't have. To me if the problem is not resolved I think it is only fair to allow swapback trades, trading player A to another team, have that other team sign him for 5 years, then trade back for player A. Normally I find deals like this wrong but in this case I think we HAVE to consider this an option.

I think if we find that this problem is not fixable, then we could put swap-back trades to a vote. I think enough people are effected by this that it would be considered.

It's all moot now. In case you all haven't read your GSB-Mail by now, here's the latest from the Commish.
"I have requested a back up copy of the database. I was told that it would be done in the morning. I will then upload the data and we can have everything fixed".

45 million for Marty Malloy for ONE SEASON? Whoever bid that is not only stupid, they should be thrown out of the league.

I saw that bid too. Seems kinda crazy.
I think all of tonight's bidding will be for not, though. I didn't mind losing him, but I lost a player to free agency that should be in his 5th year. I think a lot of the good free agents will end back up on their respective teams.
Still, I would like to hear the rationale behind the huge one year bid. Unless it is someone behind the times, who thinks he can demote that player back to the minors and nullify that contract.

*twiddle* While I'm in the theorizing mood...
I'm guessing that copy over of O2's specific information is more difficult than expected. Either there wasn't a recent backup of O2's data that could be used, the data is stored in such a way that it can only be placed back into the current database by manually entering 1 piece at a time, thereby slowing the process down, or, O2 doesn't exist anymore.

That was a great movie Eric.
Just got an update from the commish,
I just got off the phone with the database administrator of my hosting company. I explained (again) what needed to be done, and he said that he would get the backup loaded and send me an email. I hope that it will be done tonight, so that we can get things back rolling.

"Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e37'

This could mean something good for the league, as my other leagues work fine.
