I took my team and copied the table into Excel. Then I converted Exc to 5, Good to 4, Fair to 3, Poor to 2, and None to 1. Then I totalled the six columns. The totals ranged from 17 to 22. The 17 guy I put on my bench and started the 22's.

The doesn't work perfectly because of other factors... you want you PG to have "Exc" hands and it would be great to have "Exc" rebounding skills at PF and C. It does tell you if there's a guy in your lineup whose all-around talents are less than those of someone on the bench. If you're team's anything like mine, there a 17 starting and a 22 in NA - not even on the bench!

For the record, these tables convert much more easily than GSB tables. However, the height cause a problem (convert to dates) and you have to delete some columns.

I haven't touched Recruiting in Excel yet, but I would think it could be helpful as well.

www.simulatedsports.com

Obviously, it doesn't have its own forum (yet), so this seemed like the best place. It's sort of similar to GSB, although it seems a little more complex (to me at least). A lot of GSBers are playing it, so that seemed like a match as well.

Not sure how many of us there are, but I know of the following:

League 4 - Me, JKaye, KM, beastiemiked, J

League 5 - blue hen, swami

This game has been mentioned on the main GSB message boards. Has anybody else decided to give it a shot?

I'm the Atlanta Gaelic Deacons in League 9. This is my first "season" in the game.

I'm really enjoying the game, especially recruiting and trying to find the right "chemistry" in terms of starting five and style of play.

This is an amazing game, and not nearly as time consuming as GSB. I especially enjoy playing matchups, like moving my best defender on his best scorer, etc.

The main thing I get from this that I don't get from GSB(besides this being a different sport) is actual different coaching strategy from game to game. In GSB, you put your best lineup out every day, and the challenge is in fine-tuning the roster. In SSB(Simulated Sports Basketball), you have the same team all year, and you must change strategies from game to game.

They both offer something different, I would recommend SSB to anybody...

I just signed up. I don't have a team yet but the game looks cool. How long is it usually from the time you sign up for a team and when you get it?

Any veteran advice you guys would like to offer up?

I really don't think any of us are veterens by any means. IIRC, Chris signed up first and got a lot of the chatroom people to sign up as well. It took about 24 or so hours for me to get my team.

As far as recruiting goes...START EARLY! Begin giving the people you really want 17 RPE per week starting in week 1(which covers 2 weeks...the exhibition week + first 3 games). Also, offer scholarships to all the players you want in week 1.

Also, recruit good players from your hometown first. You have the inside track on getting these guys...don't let them get away. After that, try to recruit from your conference. As long as the hometown owner doesn't give them max RP's, you have a good shot at him(and even if he does, you have a chance, to my understanding).

If you have to go out of conference, try to recruit them from a town where you don't expect the owner is competitive. Also, you can try recruiting from computers' hometown, as they never max out their players. However, somebody from their conference likely will, so your chances still aren't great, but that's why you have 20 scholarships :)

Good luck, you learn more as you play.

YR- How is you team? I haven't done much other than try to get a feel for what's going on. I spent 17 RP's on a player from my home town but haven't done anything other than that. Find any players you really like?

Vets- What makes a good player? Is mostly "Good" and a few "Fair" good? Or does it have to be mostly "excellent" with a few "Good"? Also, do GPA's and Exam scores have any meaning in this game?

still tryiong to figure it out but i can tell you this, someone told me this on the message boards which does give me some help:

There are many ways to be successful, but through my 2 seasons and the advice of many of the game vets, there seems to be some consistent opinions. 1. Try and play a style (slow down, up beat) based on your talent. If you don't have good defenders, don't play man to man defense. It won't work. 2. Recruit kids that fit into the system you want to play. If you want to play upbeat, recruit athletes. If you want to play slow down, shooting may be more important athleticism. You need to stay CONSISTENT, however. 3. Don't try and overcoach the team. Every talented team that I have heard from all have at least one horror story about making a bad change during the season that have cost games. Good luck! buechlerk (Tacoma Wildebeests)

Just took down the previously undefeated conference leader in a nail-biter of a game. This puts me in the driver seat for a conference title. Should be a fun season.

Once you find a strategy that works, stick with it! I lost my first 4 games(all 3 exhibition and first regular season), then changed my team to man-to-man defense and slow tempo to exploit height matchups...and I haven't lost since.

I am told that you will find, for inexplicable reasons sometimes, that teams and players thrive under certain situations. The longer you coach, the more you get a feel for these things.

Good luck!

I don't think another forum is necessary quite yet. The GSB forum is not the most posted on and I don't think anyone would mind us posting threads on SS in here. BTW, my team, which starts 3 freshman, is 4-0.

I feel ya beastie. On both counts. There's definitely no need for another forum, althoughwe might want to change the topic to "simulated games". Not really necessary.

I'm starting two frosh, on a decidedly weak team (lost 3 preseason games by a TON), but I won my first game by 12. Additionally, my lone starting senior will probably be replaced by a stud from my hometown, who happens to play the same position.

i agree about the forum, it was just a random idea for a a moment. In my 1st exhibition game i had 2 freshman score in double digits and the are better than my starters so for the next game i decided to start them, we will see the results on wed. of my moves. hopefully i can become successfull and win at this game.

I won 68 to 58 in the first exhibition game. My center game up big with 18 points and a bunch of boards. I also only had 7 TO to the other teams 20.

The play by play thing is ok. it gives you an idea of what is happening and where your people are shooting from. seems alot of teams are going with freshman starters. i start one and he is by far the best on the team.

I use the play by play viewer, and I love it. The scrolling account of the game is pretty cool and exciting to watch(just had a win over a division rival in which I won in the last seconds of the game. That was tons more fun "watching" it than looking at a box score.)

My team is not as good as others on paper, but I think I have the right players in the right spots(ie, exc hands PG, exc rebounding C). Also, I'd like to think I exploit matchups well. I move Curtis Crook around to try to get him the best matchup and he is scoring 20+ PPG on 60% shooting. An SF by trade, he's played every position except PG for me this year :)

Destroyed some schmuck team by 27 :)

I am 4-0 with an average margin of victory of 18 since I implemented my current strategy. I really wish I knew what I was doing for that first game...I could be a top 10 team in the power rankings had I won that game :(

BTW, Power Rankings come out after game #5

My team is looking good...starting 3 Freshman, a Sophomore, and a Junior(of course the Junior is 10th in the nation in scoring at 22.2 PPG, shooting 61% from the field). This team has a bright future...they can only get better :)

2-0 with a nice 10 point win. My slow down strategy seems to be frustraing the run-n-gun teams. The play-by-play viewer was showing me a lot of quick shots by the opposition and few offensive boards, while my slow tempo allowed for the offensive rebounds on the misses. I liken my team to Princeton!! ;)

2-1 :( Lot's-o-TO's and the lack of a true PG showed in that last game. We may need a 3rd scorer to hit for 9-11 a game to seriously contend this year. Outlook for the future is good though.

Beat some schmuck team by 15. My team was very unimpressive, relative to what they've done in the past. I get one more tune up game before some real rough games come up.

From what I've heard, there is a hidden "stamina" rating. Makes sense to me, since my leading scorer Denny Cole will typically start a game with 80% shooting and then do nothing in the 2nd half. Case in point yesterday, when he scored 20 points and finished with 24. I have him on sub less, so what I'm going to do for Monday's game is try giving him a little more rest and see if he can raise his scoring in the 2nd half.

Another one of my players, Curtis Crook, is extremely consistent, pretty much doing the same in both halves shooting wise. He is also on sub less.

Cole has fair ATH, Crook has exc ATH. That could be the reason...

Hopefully Cole can raise his shooting %, even if his points lower a bit...
