0 Subject: Stat analysis

I did some analysis on one of league z seasons. i am in progress of doing stat. analysis on 2 more seasons but here is what i found so far. Triples are a little low could be higher, and slg% is a little low.

Doubles are very low. The MLB avg is 297 doubles per team.
In GSB terms the MLB High=130,AVG=117, low=100. Actual stats in my GSB league: the High=65, avg=52,low=34. This is a huge difference and of all the stats this one needs to be fixed the most.

Here are some percentages i figured out:
mlb
2b/hits: 19.67%
3b/hit: 2.10%
hr/hit: 12.58%
gsb
2b/hits: 8.72%
3b/hit: 1.34%
hr/hit: 10.40%

Another stat that stood out for hitting was stolen bases. They are to high.
In MLB the team averages 97 SB per team, the avg in gsb terms is avg=38, high=66,low=16.
Actuall data says that the avg gsb team has 62 sb, high=93, low=42. This is the other relevant stat that is out of whack.

Also pitching, there are 2 things off: k/walks ratio, and strikeouts. Walks are ok, but strikeouts are low causing the k/bb to drop, the mlb teams avg=413 k's in gsb terms, high=482, low=363. Actuall gsb stats: avg=326, high=425, low=206

mlb
k/walks 1.72
k/walks high 2.52
k/walks low 1.26
gsb
k/walks avg 1.29
k/walks high 2.10
k/walks low 0.66

This refelects only one season, but some of the stats are noticably off and should be corrected. Other than that the commish is doing a great job and I wish everyone a merry christmas. Hope this analysis helps a little.

yR...did you forward these results to the commish?
I've found him to be very responsive. Each concern I have expressed has drawn no less than an acknowledgement, and often results in a discussion.

What I have heard from the commish is that he wants the game to be like the late 80's early 90's. where there weren't as many home runs and there was more "small ball". if you wanted to do some analysis on those years, you could see how close he is.

I thought I'd sneak over and check out the Guru boards. This is a pretty interesting analysis, and definitely the type of things I like to see. I did studies like this when I programmed the sim, but the sim is complicated enough that the intended outcomes don't always equate to the results of the games.

For instance (hypothetical), I might think that I created an equation in the sim that makes 10% of hits be homeruns. So I assume this plays out in the games, however, it's important to look at game stats to see if the equation is having the intended affect.

I'm thinking about starting an additional message board at GSB where these things can be discussed. Hopefully, it could lead to more research being done, because I don't give much weight to comments that don't back up "unrealistic" claims with good evidence.

One time a received two emails on the same day claiming that a particular stat was unrealistic. However, one guys said it was too high, and the other too low. The truth is that everyone's perception is a little different, so I'm much more interested in seeing some data.

Commish,

Welcome to our world. You might also want to consider different eras. Some people liked the way it was in 1968 when the league ERA leader had a 1.12 ERA. Others like 1998 when the league leader was at 2.86. Do you want a current-era based game or something else?

I am assuming from your comments that you are not a fan of things like the GRT and KRP (and you are making plans to change both). I am glad to hear this, because such philosophies are a tremendous disadvantage to "newbies", which I assume is a crowd in which you are very interested.

Keep up the good work...

I would say the era that I'm most interested in is 1994-1997. I would like to have to say that the game is based on current MLB conditions, but there's just too much offense for me right now. I originally programmed the simulator in April/May 1998, so the stats that I was looking at were from 1997.
